Awesome rebuild!!! U guys are fantastic !!! Thanks guys !!! I 1st read about this Jagdpanther in Military Machines International , Volume 5 Issue 4 dated September 2005..There could have been many more of these tanks around if they were'nt cut-up at the end of WW2 or used on the firing range...

It's the Jagdpanther in Imperial war museum that is penetrated by several shells and cut open for interior viewing- i've seen it IRL. This is a different Jagdpanther. Nice rebuild- well done!

Awesome machine, great to see it not only in fantastic condition but actually in running condition. It sounded like the engine was stone cold at first but you could tell it was warming up near the end of the video, she was just purring when the driver had it under throttle. Speakin' of, great job that driver did: Huge beast, 45 tons on treads, driving it backwards off a skinny ramp with no side view or rear view mirrors, or even back up cameras...

This was a fantastic renovation project. Is hard to believe that this tank destroyer was actually rescued from an army firing range. I hear that plans have been made to renovate the other Jagdpanther that was lying next to it.

Yes, it has a MG; a 7,92mm on the right side of the main gun (radio operators position). It's covered and not visible in this clip. And it has a small "pistol port" to the rear- between the hatch and the showel.

The Tanks-Ardennes Offensive series has a pretty objective discussion of the Jagdpanzer by a couple of the experts at Bovington. It had impressive firepower but by no stretch was it a well-engineered vehicle. It had all of the mobility and reliability problems of the Tiger II. Lack of maneuverability combined with limited traverse was a serious weakness at anything but extreme ranges. Constant maneuvering for firing position gave its position away. It was easy to spot and hit from the air.

This video kind of shows how hard it was, for one of these types of weapons, to aquire a target. Since the entire vehicle had to be moved, it was a tough job.

@gcrav The Jagdpanther had some problems, but not as frequent as the Tiger II because of it's Tiger I engine. The Jagdpanther had much less armor, reducing a lot of stress on the engine. It was fairly fast for a German tank destroyer.

@YaYzIwInZ My mistake. I was thinking of the JagdTiger, which had the 128 mm gun. All of the late war gun boxes were produced in desperation to get mobile guns to the front ASAP. The Hetzer seems to be the only one that worked out well because it was maneuverable, versatile, a small target, and relatively reliable.

Incredible restoration project. How they could bring such a machine back to life? It's not like there's alot of spare parts and mechanical manuals laying around for Jagdpanthers. Greatest tank destroyer of WWII, on July 30th 1944 3 Jagdpanthers from 654 AT knocked out over half a squadron of 15 Churchills in under two minutes.

It's only slow because they are moving it carefully off the trailer so as not to damage it, the jagdpanther had a topspeed of 46 km/h so it's certainly nt a slow machine.

  • @PeterMancini

Actually those are good colors for forests in Europe. It is meant to be in cover as it is a tank destroyer. I like this series of videos but I wish they'd show these tanks going closer to top speed. I've seen film the Germans made of a Panther at top speed and that was impressive!

Sherman knocking out a Jagdpanther? I doubt you could find even a single account of that happening. It was probably the best and deadliest tank destroyer of the war. Fast, well armoured and a night mare for main armament.

It would need much less than a Jagdpanther to give a Sherman crew nightmares. I really pity those American tank crew from ww2 against vastly superior German tanks outgunned and completely outclassed. The name 'Purple heart boxes' was quite apt. R.I.P the dead soldiers on both sides. Gone but not forgotten. On a side note.. what a beast of a tank this is. Imagine facing a Jagdtiger. Jagdpanther on steroids.

Neutral pivoting moves apparently were not recommended with one side of drive train taking the strain of the weight. Inertia and moving turns kept the inner vertical transmission gear teeth less likely to break.

@kop4321 actually that tank destroyer was made to attack and had to be used as such by direct order. There are only a few situations in which those beasts where supposed to be ambushing and defending. therefor it had 80mm sloped (55°) armor which can be compared to ~ 100mm straight armor. It had massive top armor to withstand heavy artillery barrages with only minor damages.

I just say that even if the word "tank" is not suitable for pure specialists , for common people watching this Jagdpanther it's the first word they have in mind.
This definition is not mine , found it in a dictionnary ;o)
