Easy mate, you messed up, it happens. The biggest thing, this is still a nice car. AND believe it or not! I like what you did... Wait until you have enough and get the engine sorted professionally. Take your time and do it right. This car is a keeper. It is very clean and worth sorting out. You got this!!!

So - an E30 engine will need the sump and wiring loom swapped over from the E34. The E34 M20 has a front bulge sump (as does the E28) but it's different.
Early engine up to late '87 had a 9.75 compression and these are easy to spot as they have the old Motronic 1.1 system with two crank sensors going into the bellhousing. Later ones for the E34 and plastic bumper 325i are 8.8:1 compression with Motronic 1.3 and a single crank sensor on the toothed front pulley. At 6.57 you can see the sensor trigger pin on the flywheel flex plate so it looks like an early one.
However - the E30 sump is ££ on Ebay so you'll get your fuel money back at least.

Swapped the sump over due to the dipstick being in the block on the new replacement and e34 engine being in the sump!

Hi Josh, as others are saying, no apologies needed, don't beat yourself up, shit happens. Things like that though do knock your confidence a bit, it's just how it is. I've just had a look at my Bentley manual, the extra torque after running the engine only applies to hex head bolts. BMW recommend changing to the more common Torx head stretch bolts which do not need the extra hot torque. If you fancy taking notice of an old timer (I'm 72 next month) who has rebuilt many an engine, you never really know with engines, particularly supposedly good second hand ones, unless you pull them completely down and inspect every single part. If you just basically bang them in, it's a lottery, you may be lucky, maybe not. Internal corrosion is a massive enemy of aluminium headed engines that have been standing for long periods of time. I am really interested to see how it all pans out for you. Fingers crossed for you mate.

      Thanks for the kind words!
i have a new video coming out with success in it, so it’s a win win!
i still go by the fact that these engines are built by the factory, and opening them up lets the magic out, and you shouldn’t do that 🤣

Great stuff as always dude , I love the stuff you do .... I'm loving the fact you're keeping it as a cruiser instead of a balls out custom machine, I'm currently in the process of building my own w202 c180 , it's very standard as yet after failed wheel swaps but a very very clean standard with only a front wing repair needing addressing on the whole car it's not yet broken the paint so It's getting left til after summer....... love the channel dude, love the content you post . Good luck for the weekend dude

My thoughts are if the New_Old works for your trip, Great! Later on you could build your Old Engine for a Turbo with Manual Swap. A Standard Engine would be Happy with 350+bhp if Head Gasket issues can be fixed😊

WAIT ! Please check for tapped holes in the e30 block for e34 engine mounts before going too far into the swap. I had to return an e30 m20 because the tapped holes were not there for my e34 525 and find an e34 m20
