  • Lloydminster's mayor, Gerald Aalbers, addresses the community on the day that the Government of Saskatchewan removes all public health measures related to COVID-19.
"Since the onset of the pandemic, the City of Lloydminster has been cautious and mindful in every step taken to navigate the realities presented by COVID nineteen. Our community was not immune, and I am proud of the joint direction taken by City Council and City Administration in their efforts to combat the virus and help protect every one of us, especially our vulnerable populations.
"On behalf of the region, I want to thank Lloydminster’s essential workers for their unwavering dedication throughout the pandemic. While we’re not completely out of the woods yet, for the past sixteen months, you’ve all been there for us when we needed you. Your commitment and compassion helped us navigate ever-changing regulations, and we’ll forever be indebted to you. I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the expertise and facts shared consistently by our provincial and federal health authorities. Through their guidance, we’re now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
"While this light does carry some grief and sadness as we each faced losses and sacrifice over the past year, we look forward with renewed hope and optimism for our future. We extend our sincere condolences to those who lost a loved one due to the virus or by other causes. Our hearts are with you as you grieve and your heart and soul heal.
"To the residents and businesses who are part of Lloydminster’s landscape, thank you for your support and adherence to the health measures enacted by the provincial health authorities. It’s your commitment to helping keep the community safe that has gotten us to this point. It wasn’t easy, but as a community, we’ve persevered.
"Step two began a few weeks ago, which saw many public health measures eased for restaurants, places of worship and public and private gatherings. And just days before we entered the second stage, the Government of Saskatchewan announced we’d begin the third phase of its reopening plan today - July eleven, which removes the remaining public health measures like the province-wide mandate for masking and limits on gatherings and events.
"Staying on the subject of masking. While it’s no longer required, some people may choose to continue wearing masks. This could be based on a number of reasons, including their own risk assessment and comfort level. If you see a fellow community member or visitor masking, be kind and respect their choice.
"Since the onset of the pandemic, we’ve been in this together, and we will continue working together.
"Because together, we will overcome COVID nineteen.
    "Together, we stand as one.
