Thanks This is very good. We are having ODS implementation in hadoop and I am not clear on the Master/Transaction partition concept, can you please direct me to some sources to understand this better and in general ODS.

The basic partition and segmentation strategy should be simple . Segment the facts and replicate the small dimensions among nodes. Segmentation should be done to distribute fact data evenly between nodes and then we can further partition the data based on our data usage strategy ( Joins).
The idea is to minimize network traffic among nodes for query execution.

Staging tables have raw data from source system while ODS data is much more structured for reporting or downstream application purposes
