What is OLTP?: ibm.biz/What-i...
OLAP (for online analytical processing) is software for performing multidimensional analysis at high speeds on large volumes of data from a data warehouse, data mart, or some other unified, centralized data store. OLTP, or online transactional processing, enables the real-time execution of large numbers of database transactions by large numbers of people, typically over the internet. Watch master inventor Martin Keen explain and clarify the differences in a versus format.

In my opinion, this is one of the most comprehensive videos on the topic. Great job!
Great Explanation, you deserve an Oscar for your method of explanation
There should be a UA-cam nomination/awarding body like the Oscar, Grammy, Academy, Golden Globe, Brit and Nobel Prize for a concise and creative videos like yours 🤓
I learned how to brew beer from you, now I'm learning database architecture!
😉
What?
that's the fancy and vivid representation of data sets, it helped me distinguish between them.
Loved this explanation. One of the best in the whole internet.Very clear, simple and easy to diggest!!! Thanks a lot from Spain!!! PS: Liked and Shared!
this it the coolest teacher you have
simple and lovely definition of these BIG words
Great Explanation ! Thank you !
Awesome explanation, please dive deeper into OLAP and talk about ROLAP and HOLAP in the future
Such elegant presentation!
Cool explanation
this help me to understand the concepts of OLAP and OLTP which confused me for many years, thanks!
Great explanation, easy to understand!
Thank you - kindly put some more lights on how does one understand different dimensions in a given dataset
Very clear explanation, thank you.
How would you differentiate OLTP vs traditional relational database's, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL etc?
Where does OLTP fit in this hierarchy, is it simply a higher level abstraction, a system that contains such relational database, or can we say that a system that implements a traditional RDBMS is an OLTP system?
Clever way to present ideas. Thanks
Are you writing backwards
See ibm.biz/write-backwards
He explained so well!!!!
graciasss entendi todo, la mejor explicacion
Let's see, As an Analyst:
- I want to provide real-time visibility of the product quantities in our shops, in transport, and those still under manufacture, I would use OLTP for this
- To extract insights and patterns in our operations, I would use OLAP
Am I right?? Or I can use them interchangeably, doesn't matter??
OLAP is kind of warehouse, use it if you have to go in depth to get insights for BI, OLTP if making query, creation, updating, deletion is quire frequent, OLTP is great for fast response time for general audience in general.
I see OLAP as reports, business reports and data mining is all a process you use for data lakes or data inside data warehouses.
Thanks,it is so good
Excellent!
short and effective👍
Great Video, but is it not easier to say OLTP is just the Database Server? Besides this, the way of presentation was really good !
Can You take another e.g. It's not really different from what the internet has shown me, still the same
thanks. helped a lot!
Well explained...
So, if got that right, RDBMS would be an OLTP system?
How can I use a OLAP system to respond business questions in real time? Is this possible? I have to have access to updated transactions in the databse.
3:43 "So OLTP** does all the infrastructure work."
I’m glad someone mentioned this lol
Thanks
This really told me nothing. How would I use an OLAP cube or create one?
Good, BUT, 3:44 in 'OLAP does all of the infrastructure work' . Nope.
Good!
Thank you Sir,
Could you gives us the relation between them please 🌟?
OLAP tem um "A", e OLTP tem um "T"
Me sigam para mais diCas
Yeaaa!! Data scientists!! what an inflated title!!!
why is that?
IBM is still stuck on debating acronyms when other smaller companies and start-ups have already rolled out their products and won new customers.
IBM have been rolling out OLTP for 50 years and OLAP for 40.
and how about you ?
