Looking at the full clip, i seems that right at the same time i was starting to paddle for the wave, the Great White Shark came towards me.
I cant remember what it got through my head at that instance, but i remember that my focus was 100% to get that set, until i realise i saw a fin.
I look around to see if i see the fin again, but i really never saw it again.
Then i told to myself there is no point of panicing, yellin
That day the waves where fireing from 12ft to 15ft sets at Ocean Beach.
After, i went paddleing to the next peak where there where a bunch of surfers...

The most terrifying shark encounter I’ve come across....alone,miles of shore and a massive great white lurks in the deep below.
    This is the true nightmare.

Truly terrifying but NOT miles from shore. He's surfing not kayaking etc. The shore is 100-200 yards away. You can see it come into view around 1:08

When you are out in the ocean in deep water and knowing how long it takes to go back to shore and you see a fin it's a great motivator to make you swim back to shore as fast as possible then have to somewhat give up because your legs hurt from using the fins and there is nothing you can do to go faster anymore.

thats same as people are afreaid about flying. We are fated to living in the ground. If you meet a tiger, bear, whatever, you can run, throw the rocks, climb to tree ect...but if you meet this thing in hunting mod in deep water, you are done.

TheMalibuArtist has an awesome channel full of drone footage and a lot of them are near people...usually unaware a big beauty's right near them. The sharks just sus them out from a comfortable distance (for the shark. Probably too close for comfort by the people) and move on.

Some injuries can happen if a human expresses dominace over shark (don't do that) or they're interested what we are, but they only have their mouth which is unfortunate for us.

I saw a big Shark swimming deep off the coast of Plettenberg bay in South Africa there was 4 of us in the water about 75 metres off shore, I almost went into shock as I have always been terrified of Sharks. The calmness you show here is quite impressive, I couldn't even move for a few minutes. I can remember thinking I wish the Shark would just eat me as the fear and apprehension of not being able to see it anymore was paralyzing. Truly a terrifying experience knowing you are completely out of your element with a prehistoric super predator. The moment I got to shore I had a proper weep, that was maybe 15 years ago and I have never swam that deep again.

I had an shark encounter when I was visiting my mate in Australia. We went surfing in Surfers Paradise. I don´t what shark it was, but for me, living in the center of Germany, it was big and it was just 2-3 meters away. It recalls the fear I had and triggers the moment where I had the most intense flash of adrenaline. The way back to the beach, the missing of getting a wave (I´m such a bad surfer) and the paddling, where I was thinking all the time, that the shark will attack. Sheere horror. Back at the beach my knees were shaking out of control. Hopefully it will remain as a once in a lifetime experience.

      The end is near
That works both ways. There are plenty of people in the area that surf and spend more time on the water than in cars.
Yes, it could have easily taken his leg off but didn’t and normally don’t. Not to mention how many times we don’t even see them. Saying it’s dangerous and sharks are killing people left and right is hyperbole at best and bullshit at worst. It doesn’t change the odds, either.

      The end is near
Also, going out at OB is risky. The attack numbers are readily available and they’re not high considering how many people surf there.
You have a far better chance at drowning than even seeing a white shark. It’s risky, but not because of the shark.

Hahaha. I am chill and I'm not asking anyone to get in the water, not sure where you got that. If sharks are what is keeping you out of it, that's an unrealistic fear. It's like telling somebody who goes out in the rain "go ahead and get your ass struck by lightning!" It's silly. Just kind of tired of people who don't know the ocean, surfing and sharks make comments that are ill-informed at best and stupid or ignorant at worst. Surfing is not making yourself a dinner. You're entitled to your own opinions, just not your own facts. By all means, look up how many people were attacked and injured at that spot or in CA as a whole. It's remarkably low. You have a better chance of being killed by a dog walking around your neighborhood than being bit or "made dinner" by a shark in the ocean. If you believe differently, you don't know what you're talking about or have watched too much Shark Week. Surfers don't have a death wish, they don't want to become dinner and almost never do.

I was out surfing in north myrtle one year in december and I was paddling over a way and I saw a huge tiger passing by and I froze up I couldnt move because the shark was so big and I was the only person out and nobody was on the beach . thank god that I didnt have to shit when I saw him because I wouldve shitted myself for sure . its always best to just be still when you see a shark . you was crazy for even paddling after he passed you . next time just stay still until your wave comes then get the hell out

The moment you saw the fin you can hear your breathing got a little heavier but it honestly only sounded heavier because you started to paddle a bit. It didn't look like one of those massive 18' sharks but it def looked like a full grown 14' adult. It's crazy how your literally filming the perfect scenario of a no chop huge day under the sun with relative clear water and that abruptly changed the moment that fin popped up. It looked like it was going for you but realized you weren't food at the last moment. You think that's what it was? Or do you think it was going after some unseen prey?

I am completely at peace when Im out there on my board. Nothing else matters except for me and the next wave and if I see a dolphin or anything thats awesome. Its also fun as hell 🤙🏼

I’m sure this was terrifying for the surfer BUT, all I could think of was that shark coasting by going “waves are killer today bro! hang loose bud!”
Also, I grew up surfing in OB and now live outside of LA and surf the waters out here and up near SLO, in my 20 years of surfing, especially the time spent being a stupid kid in the OB waters; I’ve seen five white sharks, the OB had three of the largest girls I’ve ever seen and ONCE one got just a tad too close for my 16 year old self and friends to be cool with and our laughing stopped while everyone slowly pulled their legs up out of the water and waited for her to pass us, which she did after about ten long minutes of circling, disappearing, more circling etc. the other two I spotted here in socal and were definitely dumb teenagers going after an ice cream floatie someone abandoned and another just seemed to enjoy harassing tourists by swimming too close and then ditching out, for those of us who are used to seeing him (we named him Gerald), we warned tourists we’d see on their way out at sunset that he hung around, they’d never believe us until that fin popped up.
Moral of the ramble is; those who choose to surf are well aware of what lurks beneath and around us, we know when we should/shouldn’t be out on the water and for about thirty seconds every so often we go “f*ck is that a shark?” in our minds when we see a shadow, but ultimately we surf for the thrill and it’s the sharks home, 99% of them have been pretty inviting to us.

Melissa Krimsky Dude, yep.... Haha. I always worry about sharks every time I surf until I paddle for my first wave, then I forget. Lol. Even some kelp brushing my foot, and I’m like “shit! Motherf****, you better not (grumble grumble scaredtheshitoutame)...” heeeheee!

    • @nicolehasting9995

I agree! Anyone who surfs, and loves the ocean, are all well aware of sharks and other creatures below the surface... It comes with the territory. :)
I've been surfing my entire life and only seen a few sharks swimming with me. They rarely bother humans.
I appreciate your comment because you are right!!!
Surfers should be smart about what they are doing, but venturing into any ocean will pose a small threat in which we all take.
      All the best girl :)
Thanks for bringing a positive and logical awareness to surfing.
