Can't believe I'm doing this to myself again but...here we go 😬
same buddy, same
I mean part two basically made Sarah’s death worthless. So the reminder is important
@@squattingheads what do you mean worthless?
@@squattingheads How so???
Hey buddy! Surprised to see you here! Two great channels interacting! One’s great with gaming, and one is a metalhead reaction channel! Love to see it ❤️
That scene with Sarah NEVER fails drive a knife through my heart.
Yup, even though I’d seen it before when watching other people play, still got me when Sherbs and I watched it 😢
There's a reason why they shot it for hours upon hours until they got it perfect :(
Yeah who ever voiced Sarah's dying cries nailed it....gets me every time.
@@Yaybuttons898 Troy Baker and Nolan North did a let's play of this game together on UA-cam. They had Hana Hayes (who plays Sarah) on first episode. They held each other during that scene :(
Fun fact! The fungus is actually based on a real fungus called cordyceps that turns bugs into zombies!
Hope it doesnt break out and end all of man kind
@@idf1294 don’t worry, it dose not have any effects on humans lol. It’s called cordyceps if your interested! You can find some beautiful variations of it like the version that effects tarantulas that is red and had white tips
@@Catinthecosmos155 oh........wait so the bugs just hunt other bugs?
@@idf1294 no, the fungus takes over a bug and makes them climb to as high as they can go, then the bug pretty much exploded sending the fungus spores in the air so it can spread
@@Catinthecosmos155 So technically the fungus controls the ant so it can infect other ants and bugs as well.
"Single Dad," is such a criminally underrepresented dynamic/character in games. And this game does so much to show how compelling it can be with just a little effort.
Huh? I feel like single dads are like 90% of videogame protagonists of any big name title in the past 15 years...
@@sleepysera exactly, moms are underrepresented in games
@@Anbababa Yeah I don't care much for representation, but some variety certainly wouldn't hurt.
Yes. Receiving none of the stigma that single mothers face every day must be so hard for those poor men.
@@sandrafowke What the hell are you on about? We're not even talking about real people firstly, and secondly the only reason single dad's are talked about is because we acknowledge that some men are pieces of shit and abandon their children.
no matter how many times I go through this, I still tear up when Sarah dies.
The scene where Sara dies still hurts, even to this day. I think I have finished this game around 20 times, and that scene doesn´t get easier.
Her VA did an INCREDIBLE job throughout the intro getting us invested. And then turned it to 11 in the final bits of it, just to twist the knife that much more.
The whole game. Like when they want to get that emotion out of you they can absolutely pull it.
Lets be honest... That opening where Sarah dies hurts everybody's heart.. It is a very emotional scene and still affects us all to this day...
Sarah :,c , I miss her
She died so fast :c
Doesn't change the fact its, from the point of view in this scene, impossible joel doesn't get shot but Sarah does. He had to die and she should live. Could have done the cinematic better 😅
@@domwei4405 All that does is continue to fuel my theory that the events in game, didn't actually happen. They were all an image or something. Perhaps I am overlooking and finding how bad the game storyline is but it's as if the whole game may have originally been scripted as a bad dream for one of the three we see at the start. It's just bizarre how the events all started to go downhill after Sarah woke up for the second time.
I just realized that Marlene was stockpiling weapons to get Ellie out of the city. That's why she needed Robert. Then made the trade for Joel and Tess to sneak Ellie out.
No.
well that and she was waging a war trying to get government back installed (or so says their charter and demands). They are seen as the "bad guys" kind of but they really are asking for return to a normal society
They were never going to force Ellie out of the city. They didnt even want her to go to their camp, that's how scared they were to put her in danger. So, no, they weren't "stockpiling weapons to get Ellie out", they were simply in a civil war, that's all there is to it.
And its not rocket science that guns and ammo in that kind of world is probably the next most valuable thing after food, so it's a high-value commodity.
@@AwesomeNuke Yes that seems obvious on the surface but when do we not underestimate Neil Druckman? The wiki says Robert also dealt with the military and that's how he got things in and out of the city. Tess saying "I needed him alive" is a direct quote referring to her needing Robert to get Ellie out of the city. Maybe the weapons were just going for weaponing but Robert had connections to get her out of the city.
59:03 There are two kinds of health supplements in this game. Medkits, which you can carry with you and use as needed, and food, which can only be eaten immediately or not taken. When you saw granola bars (there was also 1 can of soup, but I don’t know if you noticed it), the game said FULL because your health was full at the time.
1:01:47 After several playthroughs I noticed that whenever Joel does something violent to Robert, Tess looks at Joel first. So I think that she’s silently giving Joel instructions. They’re partners, but she’s the senior partner and the brains behind the operation.
Also, at the beginning, Tess said she was jumped by two guys. Joel says “Are these guys still with us?” Tess smiles and says “That’s funny!” So she had absolutely no problem killing two guys who jumped her. A badass indeed.
1:05:31 Hold down triangle to pick up everything within reach.
1:11:42 Good stealthing! One reminder, which is when you find yourself saying something like “Where did he go?” there is the option of using the Listen Mode to tell you that.
Watching others play this for the first time is like an addiction for me. I yearn to relive my initial experience with this game. This is as close as i could get, so i’m buckled in!
I came from the ending of Death Stranding to this - my eyes can't dry! This is my favorite game of all time and I'm so excited to watch you enjoy it.
It was such a journey, can’t wait to play Part 2!
Kojima and Druckmann know how to get them eyes watering >.>
I played this game when I was 14 and it was one of the first games to make me cry so when I turned 17 I played it with my mom and she loved it I really do think this is one the best games ever made
16:31 to 17:26 man that scene always fucks me up. Poor Sarah. Every parents worst nightmare. Got to praise the directing of that scene though, absolutely incredible.
Yup, even though I’ve seen lets plays of it that scene still got me. It’s the whimpers of pain, the actress who played Sarah was only 11 at the time, so well done
@@GamingAfterBed Troy Baker is also fantastic as Joel in this scene.
This will forever be my favourite game
Late to reply but yeah, I knew this was a game people loved, but watching Sherbs play through it and seeing how well it’s made - how brilliant the pacing and gameplay is, the amazing characters, the settings, all of it - has put it to one of my all time favourites too. To the point where I think I need to actually finally play it myself rather than watching other people!
It's here! I can't wait to see your reactions to this!
The scene at 16:30 gets me every time, even though I've seen multiple playthroughs of this already.
Also, how did you even manage to avoid all the spoilers? It was all over my youtube, twitter and facebook when it was first released and again when the remaster came out. That's a skill I'd like to have!
Not sure how he avoided all the spoilers - he hasn’t been spoiled for TLOU 2 either! Whereas I have seen one story thing for TLoU2 mentioned on YT because my search history has been showing more TLoU related videos recently. Oh well! Will still hopefully convince Sherbs to play it!
I started playing TLOU on PS3 a month ago..
That's because I didn't have a PS3 until someone passed their old one to me.
I didn't know the story before this neither.
@@GamingAfterBed i first played the last of us part 1 in 2020. Never heard of it. Now I've beat part 1 3 times and getting ready to play part 2 for a 5th time
Yay its finally here! I've been waiting for this for ages! Sherbs your gonna love this dude! Can't believe your only playing this now, over 7 years after its release!!
always funny to remember the game starts off around Austin so I recognize all the signage and buildings they highlight as i've lived here for years
I've played this game years ago when it came out, of course was still emotional like a good movie. But damn it hit different now that I'm a dad..
He manages to miss EVERY SINGLE story part. The newspaper in the bathroom, the scene with the soldiers, all the dialogs in the first part of the quarantine zone.
I mean, it's his first time playthrough. Finding all the lore stuff is important but not for the blind playthrough. The first run is just for immersing yourself in the characters, world, and story. Subsequent playthroughs are for fleshing out all that you missed the first time.
This is my favourite game of all time (you might be able to tell since my pfp is one of the main characters haha), I’m not gonna lie as parents this game is probably gonna hit you a lot harder. This game is a masterpiece in my opinion and the characters are maybe the best thing about it, I hope you’ll really find a connection to these characters as parents yourselves and will be able to understand them a bit more! I know you’ll really enjoy this
We’ve recorded a few more parts and loving the story, this game is great. Also love how differently the game can play for others when watching lets plays and the little things they notice that we didn’t.
I've seen this intro many many times and I've never not got at least teary eyed
It's still sad to see how happy both Sarah and Joel here 🥺🥺🥺
I won't spoil from the later parts of the game and the 2nd part.
I seen Sarahs Death litterly 1000 Times and I always feel the pain in my chest everytime...
Not to downplay you stealth for that section with Marlene, because you played it perfectly, but I'm pretty sure your thing bugged a bit. I've always had the guards in a slow, but steady rotation of moving back and forth along their routes, not just standing there.
Either way, great content. Love it. First time watcher; will be watching the rest of this series and then others. Y'all are the prefect mix of good gameplay, funny bits, and relevant commentary
Thanks Kevin, good to hear you’re enjoying our playthroughs! 😊
The opening never fails to make me tear up. The first time I played was when this originally came out, and I was crushed by Sarah’s death, especially because my daughter has the same name, with the same spelling and was about the same age as her.
omg. ma'am you need to hide this man safely under a rock until he has finished all the way to the end of part 2.
I know! I don’t know how he’s avoided everything!
57:00 huh I was today years old when I pieced together that Robert sold his guys out to the soldiers in the fog for a higher cut
Seriously one of the best (and saddest) opening cinematic sequences ever..
I'm a little late, but I just played this again tonight for like the 6th time, cried again, and now I'm crying again a few hours later for Sarah
It gets me (Caz) every time too
As someone who doesn't have children, and is lucky enough to have never lost anyone, the intro still makes me cry like a baby. Can't imagine how someone who can relate or try to relate to those feelings must feel
That moment when Uncle Tommy becomes just Tommy... Always gets people.
I love your reactions! I hope you play TLOU part 2. It's an emotional rollercoaster. Please stay away of spoilers!
Thanks! I unfortunately saw one thing about TLOU 2 but Sherbs has managed to avoid spoilers so far!
I don't. In fact I kind of wish it had never been made.
@@tSp289 same TLOU 2 is pretty bad ngl
@@ShuffleUpandDeal32 You can argue about the history of part 2, but, it is a perfect game and better than part 1 in practically every aspect, and that is a fact, and whoever tells you that part 2 is rubbish and a bad game it doesnt knows nothing about videogames .
@@sebasnm3560 Depends. If you're talking about gameplay and graphics that's one thing (graphics as expected were cutting edge and excellent), but actual storyline... well, whether you like it or not, it's extremely long, unfocused and starts and stops several times. Without going into detail, I'd say I left LoU2 feeling like everything you achieve in 1 has been wasted and there was no point to any of it. By the end of it, I didn't really care if anyone survived, and only my completionist urge kept me going to the end. That's not a good feeling to come out of any story with.
"Are we sick?"
"no, of course not!"
"How do you know?"
"I just got the results of my PCR test back. It says negative, plus I wear a mask..."
"Wrong pandemic, Uncle."
I played this at a friends shortly after becoming a father (a little girl). Took me YEARS to pick this back up and play it. I loved it, but that scene absolutely BREAKS me every time...
Same 😭
I LOVE how you guys engage and actually PAY ATTENTION to the story/dialogue. So many streamers talk through the whole damn game sometimes and miss such great story telling within the details. Even though you’ve missed some things by not exploring fully, 😜 I can’t wait to finish this series with you guys! Absolutely loved it and subscribing! Cheers!!
P.s. the reading of notes is a plus and hope you guys continued that throughout
Caz here - thanks for watching! I watch a lot of lets plays myself so we try to read notes out and pay attention to the cutscenes - we don’t stay silent during because that doesn’t feel natural to us, which may not be for everyone but we play games for the stories!
@@GamingAfterBed that’s the most perfect explanation! You guys make the play-through feel SO natural! That includes someone who’s paying attention to the game, while also reacting accordingly and commenting when it matters! I noticed you guys could be talking and then briefly stop to hear the dialogue or cutscene before continuing to comment. Currently on episode two and thoroughly enjoying it! Thanks for the comment. :)
Glad to see another TLOU playthrough! Part 1 and 2 are some of the top best games ever made, and they are both brutal. Lots of people don't understand that Joel isn't a good guy and then hate part 2 because of that, but in my opinion part 2 is even more perfect than part 1.
12:00 everyone running in a panic and that one guy just enjoying his evening stroll
Can comfortably say ive beaten this game atleast 30 times and that Sarah scene always break my heart. This entire game everytime it wants to play with the emotions no matter hiw many times ive seen it. It gets me everytime
Same 😭
Sarah dying is the most emotional scene in a game that is known have emotional scenes that pull at peoples' heart strings.
That opening is easily one of the saddest opening in video game history.
It also explains why Joel is the way he is and why he makes the decisions regarding Ellie that he does.
Totally agree, as a father who lost both his wife and daughter in a car accident to a drunk driver... it broke my heart. I love the game to pieces, but damn that scene breaks me every time...
So sorry for your loss
God this game has to be one of my favorites, especially now. Sarah’s death always hits so hard.
Mane I can’t do this anymore I need to stop watching play throughout and crying over and over
That opening absolutely crushes me every single time.
I've seen the intro played so many times, that I pretty much know Sarah's cries by heart now.
Same 😢
I sat next to my dad when he was playing the opening and at the time I looked a lot like Sarah which didn’t help. And he looked so sad it hurt
Ladies and gentleman. Ive found it. The letsplay duo that I will watch.
Thanks!
When I played TLOU for the first time and I saw that scene...
I couldn't stop crying dude 😔
14:15 did i just hear the Wilhelm scream, thats a classic
everyone ive seen on youtube has said "what litle girl has a landline in her room, but i think its a good idea , what if she had an emergency
Two couple: playing and talking about survival of the fittest in the zombie apocalyptic world
Me: (O _ O) looking at the two couple with eyeglasses... if they lose those Hmmm
Yeah we’d be stuffed 😅
Hi guys! Thanks for introduce this game in this year 2021, most people play it and never play it again. Subbed!
Also this game has sooo many glitches and it has 141 collectibles!! Greetings from Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷
Wow, Joel was much more careful in TLOU 1... He didn't even care about that family in distress lol
You guys are so lucky you get to play this fresh, and then pretend the second one doesn’t exist. I am truly envious, as I cannot reverse time.
it took me 7 times watching the Green Mile to be able to get through it and not have it "get me", this was 15 for this opening and it still doing it's job quite nicely 😢
yes! this is gonna be a great emotional journey
i played this game n it hit home u will love ellie n sarah i did but i loved Joel 2 its worth playing it over n over
love seeing people’s reactions to the Sara scene
1:00:00 you mean Bronn? Yeah, they def lookalike.
Yes! Could not remember his name at the time! It’s not the same actor though I’m guessing
I think watching these parents are more interesting than the typical gaming streamer.
can't fake jump scare when you are crying
Somehow, before this game I'd never thought about children with a texas accent. I mean, in hindsight it seems obvious there will be texas kids with texas accents, but I never thought about it
Bro you cracked me up 🤣🤣
No matter how many times I see Sarah's death scene i always cry
This game has been my favorite game since it first came out. I love watching people play it, so here I am watching! This is the first video I’ve seen of yours :)
Hope you enjoy our channel!
@@GamingAfterBed I do!! I don’t see many couple gamers, so this is refreshing to see :)
8:47 The stupidest cliche in all horror games/movies. "Something terrible happened," and they never specify what exactly. Because of this, the heroes are deprived of important information and do not fully understand what is happening. I hate it.
That's the fucking point. It's so more easy to fear something when you doesn't understand it.
@@feralves1 he is talking about the cliché being stupid, not that having that cliché isn't useful
I don't think this counts as the cliché since this entire sequence is from Joel's point of view. He doesn't KNOW what this is, what started it, or what to do it about it. They saw their neighbor that morning and he was fine and then this happened at night. They whole WORLD they lived in was normal right up until all hell broke loose and that's literally all these characters know. Now, if "something terrible happened" was just vaguely stated during a narration or say, in a presidential meeting about the situation or in a military briefing or something (which yeah, plenty of games and movies unfortunately have done) it would be lazy writing. But Joel is just a single dad working his ass off day to day. This is HIS point of view so of course he doesn't know what the "something" that happened was.
I couldn't get enough of this game. I bought it when it first came out on ps3 and then I bought my ps4 just to play the remaster
Fun fact: there not zombies there called infected which means there still alive it’s just that they have no control over their bodies because of the fungus taking control of the brain and when there whimpering standing still covering their heads it means there in pain which means there alive and are aware of what there doing and there actual true self without control which is scary.
Fun fact the opening to this game is one of the best openings of all time to anything
Agreed!
i love serahs voice so much she is such a lil cutie
This video here is the very first of your content Ive seen! Can't wait to watch, typing this at the beginning
EDIT: love the commentary, do a collab with Bowlingotter and LissySandwich? That would be awesome
Thanks! Will have to check those out!
Worst child death in movie, TV show and game history. And I know, we'd met her ten minutes ago. That says a lot about the brilliance of the execution.
Can confirm, the Sarah scene hurts way more since having a daughter.
One of the greatest games of all time
instant subbed. I always wanted to see parents play this game.
still one of the best game prologes ever made...
I love seeing peoplee reaction to the prologue to this game LOL
Why am I doing this to myself? Here we go again D:
Why am I such a masochist, I watched so many youtubers playing this game, I PLAYED this game myself too XD (the second too)
UA-cam recommented me this channel...I'm so glad, that I found you guys. I love those Let´s Play Together channels. And I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for the amazing content!
Glad you’re enjoying our videos, thanks! 😊
Both parts broke my heart. I can't say thats a bad thing.
The opening scene will always make me cry
Me and my mom cried at that scene
Now, I’m not a parent, although I hope to be one some day. So I don’t doubt that this sequence hits parents in a deeper way than a non parent.
However, the opening to TLOU hurts the heart of anyone with a heart.
Indeed. Seem to have upset a few people with the wording of our title, wasn’t meant to come across as saying we parents feel it more than others, just playing to the YT algorithm by adding parents in a descriptive way so anyone looking for a couple/parents playing games might find us!
@@GamingAfterBed Yeah, I get it.
like I said before, I have no doubt it affects parents in a deeper way then someone who doesn't have children.
that scene gets me everytime
Ya'll should definitely play telltales the walking dead!
NaughtyDog games always fit in my taste, the gameplay, graphics, and story are on point... since CTR :D
i love that you guys are such a cute couple and im glad youve just played this the part 1 remaster is just as good as the original im betting ive held out on it but your reactions aswell as mine were so pure to back when i was 11 in 2013 im 22 ive got ellies tattoo as a male but this is and always will be my favorite game of all time then bioshock lol
Welcome if you're new to our channel! We still haven't played Bioshock, maybe one day!
Saddest intro to a video game
UA-cam: "hey here's an unskippable ad for the Home Depot!"
👍📺👀
I hope you guys play Last of Us 2. I love it more than the 1st game, it's a masterpiece!
I wished someone did a video series on what if Sarah was the protagonist of this game instead of joel and we saw the story through Sarah's point of view and how she would interact with the other characters throughout the game
Cool idea...I think based on the little we saw of her and her comment about how we should have stopped for the family we drove past, she wouldn’t last very long in the Last of Us world. Sad but you probably need to be ruthless and self-serving to survive.
@@GamingAfterBed in this what If joel has to die, and after Sarah sees her father die she will become more ruthless and self serving during those 20 years, she could become a member of the fireflies during those crucial 20 years, that's enough time for someone to become a different person than they were prior to everything that happens.
Hmm nice idea!
It all just depends on how you develop her character during those 20 years.
There’s an unfinished fanfic on AO3 of that
I love The Last of Us i am biggest fan Joel and Ellie is my favorite they look like father and daughter when Joel's daughter pass away
It's really annoying when people compare a relatively bad flu season to a zombie apocalypse. lol... Anywho, great game. Fun start from you guys.
Don't gotta be parents for this scene to hit hard.
True!
Best game ever made!
When I first played this I used melee almost the whole game
I am gonna watch this next. Just finished your uncharted 2. Love your channel. My favourite gaming channel at the moment.
Thanks! 😊
Now imagine in the HBO series this scene again
0:23 I picked up The Last of Us on PS3 for £2.49, along with Uncharted for £0.99 and Uncharted 2 for £1.49 from Game. I guess they were trying to get rid of old stock, since the games were both pre-owned and half price on top of that.
I love you right away being from the UK hehe! Can i just ask though if it is just Sherb who genuinely hadn't played this before the playthrough? I noticed after the Sarah death scene you said(the lady...sorry don't know your name!) that you had seen it so many times?
Hello! Caz here, thanks for the love 😊 yes it’s completely blind for Sherbs but I’ve watched lets plays of TLoU back when it came out, so to be fair with my appalling memory only a few things had stuck in my memory from watching back in 2014 - I remembered all the deaths and the ending scene with the surgeon at the hospital, but I didn’t remember Joel getting injured or the very end scene weirdly!
Looking forward to watching the series guys. Although Naughty Dog did squeeze in Uncharted 3 before this little gem :)
Yes! Not sure why we thought TLOU came before Uncharted 3 but hey ho! Hope you enjoy the playthrough, we just finished recording it tonight 😊
"Iv'e seen that so many times" 'Blind'
We explain at the start of the playthrough - Sherbs is completely blind, I’d watched lets plays but he’s the one playing the game and he hadn’t had anything spoiled
