My bunnies aren’t spayed yet because they’re not old enough and I can’t wait til they’re fully boxed trained. They’re peeing all over their pen. I keep telling myself, one more month one more month lol.
i can totally relate to this! my bunnies are only a month old (the other one is turning a month old in about a week) and i keep them in an expen for now and sometimes they pee and poop in their litter box but they have accidents a lot of times! and i cant wait to get them spayed when they turn 6 months old !!!
My bunny is now four months old. He was 3 months when I got him. I got a large enough rabbit litter box (from Amazon) Put some poops and a paper towel that had pee on it in there, and he trained himself, no trouble at all. Some people think neutering makes it easier. I don't think so. It just keeps them from spraying urine to mark territory. If they have their own space, they don't feel that need. I saw this with my cats. I had an outdoor cat who was neutered and would still spray in the house anyway. My present cat has always been indoors and has never done it. He doesn't have any competition for his territory. Time will tell with the bunny. He has his own space.
To me it’s really easy to train your rabbit to poop in one spot, they have a instinct just like cat litter training. Yes, I use to have 2 cats so I know it is a little different because you have to put hay, but other than that once your rabbit knows where to go 👌. Love this video because I need pee pads and pellets instead of cat litter, I checked my vet they are good and healthy 👍🏿 had my rabbits for 2 half years now. It’d been pretty amazing bonding with them, plus they are both sisters from the same litter.
Thank u for the wonderful & VERY informative video. I have 2 doggies (a 1 year old basset hound & a 8 month old boerboel) aaaaand🤣 12 Guinea pigs I have had for 7 years. And last week taking my piggies for a check up at the vet I saw two Bunny's 🤭💖a black one & the other one is white with black dapples both boys I was all over they bunnies & the owner of the vet said I can adopt them💃💃💃💃🎉🎉🎉🎉 I did as fast as possible🤣🤣🤣. You’re very welcome! Thanks for supporting! I love how many pets you have haha! My parents actually have three basset hounds and I’ve had guinea pigs in the past!
How do you preserve the hay so the majority of it isn’t getting peed or pooped on? And how do you keep the bunny from sitting in soiled areas while he eats? What are your thoughts on sifting litter boxes?
Hi there!! Since I put the hay at the back of the litter box she doesn’t really pee or poop on it. I know some bunnies will move their hay around and sit on it and pee and poop on it, so if your bunny does that I’d suggest an open litter box with a hay feeder instead of the set up I have. Bunnies are going to poop/pee where they eat so they will sit on the pee and poop regardless, but the pine pellets really soak up all the liquid so the bunnies feet won’t be wet. As long as you put enough pine pellets and clean your litter box regularly your bunny should stay clean. I only clean Mozzy’s litter box once a week and haven’t had a problem with her smelling. I don’t really see a need or benefit to sifting litter boxes because the poop would just stay on top while the pee drains to the bottom, and pee would still be stuck on the top of the plastic part that they stand on and get on their fur, but it’s all about preference and what works for your bunny.
Friends with Bunnies Friends with Bunnies Thank you so much for the advice I’ll definitely start off with the hooded and putting the hay in the back and only switch over to an open box and hay feeder if necessary. Mozzy is adorbs! Great video!😊❤️ My baby comes home tomorrow at 9 weeks old. Do you think he will have an issue with jumping over the sides to get into the litter box?
Thanks for the tip of using pine pellets. I never knew about them. I always used pine shavings, but it was probably too dusty to use in the long run. What is your take on using the shavings?
I found that I'm allergic to the pine shavings. They make a lot of dust and are really messy. I thought I was allergic to rabbits for a long time. Then, I worked in a school that had some and they did not use wood shavings, and I was not allergic to the rabbits after all. My cat turned out to be allergic to the pine horse pellet bedding, so I don't use it. Good old fashioned clay litter with baking soda for my cat, shredded up brown paper bags and egg cartons for my rabbit. We're all doing fine.
Hi May I ask why you used eating pellets at the bottom? Will your rabbit eat them? Or are they there to keep the odour away? I’m looking to get a bunny.
Hi, Your video was so helpful. I am getting a new bunny soon and I’m getting ready. For the pellets, it says rabbit food. I thought it was for them to poop and pee, do they it the pellet sometimes? I’m confused 😐
The pellets in the litter box are not for them to eat, it’s just to soak up the pee. Those are pine pellets. There are food pellets that they eat, which you can feed a small amount in addition to their hay and greens. They are not the same thing so you don’t wNt to put those in their litter box
I use a litter box made for rabbits. It has a plastic screen to stand on, for the poops to fall through. I use shredded up paper egg cartons and brown paper bags for the litter. We eat a lot of eggs, so repurposing these is a good idea. (Amazon was selling shredded up brown paper for $39. a bag and that was just ridiculous.) You shouldn't use cat litter because if they ingest it, it can stop up their digestive tract and be fatal. I don't use the pine pellet litter because it made my cats hair on their bellies and legs fall out. When my son moved out with his cat and went back to clay litter, her fur grew back. I stopped using it with my cat, his fur grew back. So, I don't recommend it. Shredded up paper works for us. When it's time to clean out the box, we empty it into our garden beds. The poop, pee, and paper will decompose into the soil. Or, you can put it into a compost bin. Rabbit poop makes great fertilizer.
What a cute rabbit! I have one that looks exactly like yours for about 1 year. He weights about 7lbs. We rescued him from a farm. Do you know what kind of rabbit it can be? My vet is not really sure and thinks it might be a mix. Thanks for your video!
If the litter does smell, I simply pour some liquid dishwashing liquid over the pine pellets to remove the smells. I would put a wire-grate-screened litter box found at Amazon for a rabbit. I love the wire screen litter boxes. No mess! And it is extremely rare to find a pooh pellet anywhere. For best potty set-up, I recommend pine, Pelletize Bedding which expels a wonderful fresh wood smell that lasts as you see in this video. Please smell the bag to make sure the pine scent is strong before purchasing. Plus, the bag is extremely cheap at any farm store. The pellets remove the urine smell and absorbs the urine. You don't have to change for many days. I also put a pee pad underneath for easy cleaning. And if it does smell, simply pour some liquid dishwashing liquid over it to remove the smells. my bunny Robert is still struggling and peeing in the exact same area even though I keep cleaning it with vinegar water. Do you have any tips on how to fix that
Hi there! Is your bunny neutered? Unfortunately it’s extremely difficult to litter train a bunny if they’re not, as it’s their natural instinct to mark their territory.
Hi, that’s great that your bunny is neutered! If they just got neutered within the last few weeks, their body still needs time to adjust. I would block off the area he keeps peeing on or I would put his litter box in that area.
@@friendswithbunnies4873 I think she means that those pellets can make their feet sore so people put padding there . I personally just cover it with hay or straw. Especially older bunnies have problems with sore paws so please consider it for the sake of your bunny. It’s really no misinformation you should look it up .

Spray it with vinegar and make that area hard to be accessed by bunny by putting some obstacles for few days
Ok I have a ? So I’m getting bunnies and I have a wire bottom cage what do I put on top of the wire like hay but will they eat there bedding???
Hi, your bunnies should not be on a wire bottom cage, it can cause them to get sore hocks. They know not to eat their bedding. Hope this helps!
my bunny will pee and poo in it, bue he also sleep in the litter box. Is it okay or do I need to stop him to sleep in there? Thanks!
Hi! If she likes doing that and she doesn’t have any other issues it should be fine.
Do you clean the litter box everyday? Or at the end of the week?
I clean it once a week, if it happens to be extra dirty for whatever reason, twice a week 🙂

Is it okay if I use shell sand for the litter? I normally use that for my love birds.
Hi! Bunnies can’t use that litter because the tiny particles get in their airways and they can get respiratory problems.
