As Van enters the twilight of his career I am so thankful I have been aquainted with his music. He is one of the poet songwriters of all time. Such an unusual voice, deep and abiding lyrics that will haunt me forever...and there are so many of us who believe he hits so close to the bone on love's heights and tragic ends...I thank God for artists like him...
I listen mainly to rock reggae and blues but Irish Heartbeat is my favorite album period. The songs on it are so hauntingly beautiful, including this one.
I first heard "Into the Mystic" back in 1987 or so. It drew me out into the deep. And Raglan Road keeps me there. Killer songs. All heart and soul. Van is THE MAN.
Comparing Luke Kelly and Van's version is like comparing apples and oranges. Most people who sing it try to copy. These both performed it in their own original styles. Both creative geniuses.
@WilliamsbBridge No, "Fungus Moss Gnosis" is an anagram for "Sun's Fog Musings, So?," which is the title of my new book of verse out soon from W.T. Maddock & Co. in a parallel universe. Either that, or it has no earthly meaning.

Who the fuck would dislike this beautiful rendition of an amazing song?
That song is just beautiful 💯🇮🇪☘️

Van sings almost every song he sings better than anyone else could. The only exceptions are some old R & B tunes. That's it.
beautiful song always been one of my favourites and vans version is superb

one of the great love songs
bellissima canzone l'ho scoperta da poco.
just awesome. another great song and another beautiful version.
Mark Knopfler, Roger Daltry and Van Morrison gave it a go but nobody captures the passion of the song like Luke. Get chills every time I listen to it.
Patrick Kavanagh wrote the soundtrack to my life; Van's singing it...
super van morrison super bluesman et super rocker sixties avec "them" son 1er groupe excellent et toujours là la bete de scéne !!
Love Van's version.
No one tops Van Morrison at anything -- other than radio interviews I suppose.
Van, I was 6 years old. I needed you. Where were you?
I love it!!
top notch van

Let grief be a fallen leaf.

luke is the man for this song
could you post the rest of the songs from this show i havnt seen it for years!
I was named after Patrick Kavanagh.
Just thought I'd throw that out there . . . .
would you happen to have Sense of Wonder from this show?
@angelf1re In the words of the Great Lebowski, "yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man .."
@FungusMossGnosis Is FungusMossGnosis your middle name then?
MY GOD HES A CREDIT TO THE IRISH RACE
Certainly a different way of doing this song, good? I'm undecided
"sorry, Van"? Yeah I'm sure he cares what you think...
Doing his best I suppose - but lacks the raw power, passion and depth of voice that Luke injects into this great song.
@angelf1re Alright, troll off now, Troll!
I think he kinda dismisses these sessions, but I wonder if he realizes that fans consider these songs most awesome
