Oh this is so precious. Absolutely adore how patient they were with the kids explaining their ideas. Truly wanting to make a game where their imagination could run free.
I remember reading an article on how the people at Mindscape created a replica of Lego Island to get feedback on how the kids would interact with the Lego. This seems to be what they meant. From the article, it was said that the boys had more fun playing wirh the vehicles while the girls would like to redecorate the island (hence why you could change the various plants or colors of objects and such). But I wasn't aware that the kids were actively giving the devs ideas. It's really cute. I know it's a year late, but thank you for uploading this. This provides a very interesting insight into the development of the game.
Very good job with the VHS transfer. Correct frame rate, upscaled to avoid UA-cam's awful compression, good quality all around, you've earned a new sub. Keep it up!
I hope mindscape realizes how bad they fucked up, fired all the employees last minute to not pay a bonus to save on minimal profits. then lego decides to pull all support from mindscape this means no mindscape lego tv show, lego island themed sets (not counting extreme stunts), no sequels like beneath the phantasy sea (not lego island 2 and extreme stunts), no merchandise. No other future games with mindscape. They killed their golden goose.
Most of the buildings (except for the Information Center) and vehicles in Lego Island were actual sets that already existed so it would be a waste to make a theme out of sets that already exist.
Look up the cancelled 6500 Holiday Village The snack bar is the corner of the info center the pizzeria has the exact same logo as the one found in the game and is clearly the same pizzeria as it looks very similar. the dune buggy from the game is in it also the super 2 logo is found on the grocery store which also looks like a combination of the gas station and super 2.
Also as to why they didn't make any themed sets was because mindscape fired the employees to save a bonus This pissed off lego and pulled all support from mindscape.
They made an actual Lego Island? 6-year-old me wouldn't have left the table. Hell, 32-year-old me wouldn't leave the table now.

The audio from the E3 1996 demo has been found and the Infomaniac sounds like Buck Pounds
He is! Voiced by the Lead Designer Himself by the name of Wes Jenkins.
wow what a time so long ago. Developers listening to ideas from their fans/audience!

VHS actually had a data rate similar to the CD-ROM, so any script kiddie who grew up modding Lego Island could probably figure it out
Wow. I cannot believe this footage was found. I'm hoping to find uncompressed videos of the intro and endings.
What a goldmine of information! Thank you as always!!

Makes me wonder why they didn't make a Lego Island theme when the game came out. I think it would have been great.
they kinda did, they released an infomaniac figure in the system line

Could I use some video and audio from your videos in an archival channel?
is this real or is this Tony's new project I remember hearing about? If this is that then I gotta give it to you, this is all really good.
