  • FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) is a viral disease that affects cats and is caused by the feline coronavirus. Many cats are infected with the feline coronavirus, but most cats don't develop the malignant form of the disease that leads to FIP. Some of the most common neurological signs in cats with FIP include dizziness, loss of balance, vision loss, lethargy, and seizures.

      @@Lunarek she is currently 2 months into her 3 month observation period after stopping medicene and has shown no signs of relapse :D. Some cats do relapse during the observational period and then they have to do another treatment. But I think once they get past the first month of observation they’re usually in the clear. If anything does happen I’ll try to remember to update!

      @@blanketthecat3586 thank you. the hard part of this treatment is seeing my boy in pain when injected. I am at shot 17 now, he's doing very well and healthy. I really hope once I'm done with this treatment that he never gets FIP ever again.

      @@Lunarek oh absolutely ❤️. I cried a lot in the beginning of treatment. Doing the shots is incredibly difficult for you and the kitty. I eventually switched to pills a little less than a week before the first month even though it was more expensive. But the decrease in overall stress was amazing. Please be patient and strong for your kitty! The treatment really does work so you have to remind yourself of that!

    Wow. 30 yrs ago the kitten I adopted was (finally) diagnosed and died of FIP. No mention of any coronavirus back then, vet also told us it was highly contagious, to throw away any of our cat’s items that couldn’t be washed, and not to bring another cat into the home for at least 3 months. How things have changed.

    I adopted two adorable kittens from a shelter. Literally one month later....I lost the male. In one night he had no balance and took a few deep breaths and died. One month later.....the female had same signs. This is a terrible disease that can swiftly kill. Paralyze. Neither could walk within few nights. They were very young and this has just been traumatic for me. So very sad. 😓 I hope a treatment is approved and available soon. Very distressing

      Read my post above. There is a cure. One of my local vets is curing cats with FIP. My cat has been cured for over a year now thanks to the FB group "FIP Warriors". They save lives. The GS drug is a miracle, my cat is testament to that. My vet is now a believer and has also joined the group to educate himself. I'm sorry for your loss, as this virus is so awful. If you ever have another cat diagnosed with this or know of anyone else who is dealing with FIP please direct them to the FIP Warriors page. They can get you the life saving drug as they helped me. I have my cat back. He is forever Cured.

    Had a TNR cat disappear for 2 years, only to return to me one day full of lice and skinny and sick. I recognized him immediately and he allowed me to take him in. He lasted a few months and had to be euthanized due to a belly full of fluid and inability to breathe 😢 He was a polydactyl named Hemi and I miss him so much but I was glad he remembered me in his time of need. I am convinced he was in a filthy cat hoarders home, never saw a cat with lice in my 42 years. Makes sense as FIP is highly contagious in overpopulated homes. I suppose he either escaped that horror house or was put back outside because he was ill.

      Can you kindly tell how did you find out that she had FIP.?

    • @Upndouin
      @Upndouin 4 місяці тому +1

      @@maryamaamir1689 the symptoms are mainly visual as she lost a lot of weight very suddenly and then no matter what we did she would not eat. She became lethargic and her eyes were very glossy. By the time we noticed that we took her straight to the vets and they could only diagnose based on symptoms (however it could be anything else), we had blood test done which confirmed she had Feline Coronavirus which then was pretty much a confirmation that the virus had mutated and caused FIP. We have another cat and very likely he got the Feline Coronavirus too, but he recovered without any symptoms. Somehow it is similar to our Covid as some people died and other barely had symptoms.
      Sadly at the time she had it, we had no treatments so it was only a matter of time. She lasted almost 3 weeks. Her FIP was the “dry” one, but if it was the “wet” type they would have put her down straight away and it fills up their lungs and they just suffer a lot.

      @@Upndouin actually I meant that how can I know if my cash have it? Like does CBC or LFT shows anything

    • @Upndouin
      @Upndouin 4 місяці тому +3

      @@maryamaamir1689 this is where it gets tricky. Blood test can detect the F-Coronavirus presence, but that does not mean it will result in FIP. However, knowing that no FCovid is present excludes the possibility of the cat having FIP. Aditional tests such as ultrasound and XR can confirm if the FCovid has mutated. Also, the majority of cases happen when they are still kittens or very old. I wanted to have my other cat tested at that time, but the vet said that a positive FCovid would not mean he’d also develop it & since the virus is extremely contagious chances were that he caught it but was fine. If you have suspiscion that your cat might have any symptoms the best thing is to speak to your vet and work out a plan to start rulling things out. Sadly the diagnosis is not straightforward - it requires a combination of tests. Hope this helps.

    Fip is treatable with Gs. I have a cat that had wet fip his stomach was 27 ins around with fluid that we treated with gs in 2019. He is still alive and very healthy. He lives inside and has most his life he lived in our garage and outside for about 6 months this past spring through fall until it got cold in michigan. He is one our best mouser cats we have. We have not seen any side effects with the medication the treatment we did was first 90 days with shots daily and then did another extension of treatment after that 90 days for another 30-45 days. After that he was cured and still alive. He is now about be 6 yrs old after graduated from his treatment in summer of 2019. So it has been almost five years since he was treated.
