Had a 77 txl. Loved the hood design !. My buddy had the factory RXL. We went to Kinross to run. Them factory boys were FAST ! Got to go into the MIDNIIGHT BLUE EXPRESS race trailer and hang out with the team. I asked one of them do you really run SEIZECO 'S ? ( Wiseco ). Said hell no, we get money for running there sticker ! 😂. Priceless. Btw, Wayne ( Peare ) Got smoked !. Factory was around first turn before Wayne got to start finish line ! Memories I'll never forget. We stopped along side highway so Wayne could release himself on other side of trailer and me being me and in the middle of front seat just put my left foot on the break and put dually in drive and eased on down the road a piece. 😅 we all laugh and back on the road again. I think your '78 TXL is my favorite sled! Made my day to see a video featuring it. You sure get some nice takeoffs with her! I might have to find one someday and add it to the stable. Sorry you had the mechanical failure, but we've all been there too! Looking forward to seeing it again, when she's fixed!
Dang I thought I was the only one who had a cross country (saw one peeking out in the intro) good to see those liquid 340s gettin the love they deserve
Yes it does get a but chill behind thise liw windshields. We were up in Baldwin ( another beautiful place to ride ) and it was 25 below. Wayne had the new trailing arm 340 P so he stayed warm. We pulled into town to get fuel and went inside the old gas staion to warm up. Had and OLD pot belly stove . I had a beard and stash at the time so you know what happens with the nose, lol. Yup helment stuck to beard and stash. Bent over stove to melt the ice. Then i could get my old midnight blue Polaris helment off. Still have that old helment too. Damn that was a cold ride ! And yes, its hard to keep up with the newer sleds when you dont have suspension, lol . But im sure the 340 had the guts to stay up with the other boys if you did ! Put a later model skid under it !. I was going to make a clone of the RXL using my 440 ported egine i spoke of earlier in my previous text. You boys stsy safe up there. Keep yer head on a swivel, keep yer powder dry and LOCK & LOAD ! Its coming like a freight train from her on out. June, july could be it according to several I've listened to.
Nice vid Nutter! Glad to see you get something else out for a ride! I like the Grape Ape, but you’ve got too many cool sleds to let them all sit Cheers guys!!
Love that 78! I just bought a 78 to go with my 77, just have to make the 3 hour round trip to get it. Needs work, the steering shaft was locked up and the belly pan needs work Funny how Polaris ran the graphics on the hood so the rider can read it. I always thought it should be the other way so when standing in front of the sled you can read it.
Sorry to hear about the TXL. I guess that will be another episode! What jackshaft did you use for the chain case conversion? Are you running a top oil seal? Original narrow gears? Love your channel.
It's been a long time since I built it, but I would guess I'm using a later jack shaft and drive shaft with oil seals top and bottom. Mid '90s XLT, Indy 500, trail Indy and the like all fit. You are correct, there will be an episode. Still haven't opened it up yet to see what happened. Thanks.
It's pretty easy when you have 4 galouts to throw the bad boy up on there. Last time I broke down right before the trailer and had to drag it up on there by myself, my asshole was sticking out about two inches.
Nice sled john. Are you using a tx-l indy engine? Or a crankshaft from a tx-l indy? Or a bushing in the clutch? I ask because the tx-l leafers have the long crankshaft snout.
I saw another video where they mentioned how great the TXL 340 engines were and how much power they made. Do you notice a big difference between the LC and free air?
Stock for stock with good clutches on both it's pretty easy to tell the liquid makes more power. I can mod the free air to get pretty close with 38mm carbs and a tiny bit of port work. Clutching matters a lot too. A stock free air with great clutching will walk a stock liquid with poor clutching.
WE HAD TWO they were one of the best all around sleds polartis ever made and tough as nails

I like the TX models for their simplicity, but that TXL can rip. I am looking forward to seeing the repair videos. Cheers Nutter!

Thanks Kenneth!
The txl 340 were so fast in the day my best friend growing up had one ! It would beat my 460 ss25 one luger on the radar runs ! I will admit it now !
Love the txls. Engine swapped mine with a “96 xcr 440 engine. Snappy lil thing.
We built one for Lonnie with an Indy 500 motor. There's a playlist for it.
Dang I thought I was the only one who had a cross country (saw one peeking out in the intro) good to see those liquid 340s gettin the love they deserve
It was fun ride though all is well Repair the gear and chain your set too ride again thanks for sharing.
Bummer. Hope you had a traveler while waiting for trailer lol. Sounded like it was bogging more and more as the video went. Have a good one John
That this boogies for a 340! 👍🏻
Run your piped 650. I like those old 650.

Love the cornfield vid
I love how the TXL sticker reads the same from the rider side or the front side.
I love TXLs.
Love it

My HS grad year. Beautiful sled.

Right on!
Wow still snow nothing here in Manitoba
Wide open straights!
Working on a 78L in the shop.
Hope I get to see it sometime. Your restos are always top notch!
@@nuttersspeedshop love your videos as well.

nice. that's pretty nearly the same thing as my polaris cobra 440... except your engine and clutching are WAY better than those on mine.
The look is similar, but they are very different. Your Cobra is actually basically a '74-'75 TX but with s steel chassis.
It's pretty easy when you have 4 galouts to throw the bad boy up on there. Last time I broke down right before the trailer and had to drag it up on there by myself, my asshole was sticking out about two inches.
i use 20w50 sytic engine oil in my chain cases have been good so far
4wd trucks with chain drive transfer cases call for ATF.
your engagement seems a lot higher than stock
Everything wad good till it wasn't. still a lot of fun tho.
Looks like it's time to hang up the leathers, until you have a band gig...
Hair metal forever!
Hopefully it’s an easy fix
Nice sled john. Are you using a tx-l indy engine? Or a crankshaft from a tx-l indy? Or a bushing in the clutch? I ask because the tx-l leafers have the long crankshaft snout.
later 32mm clutch on long crank.

Such a cool sled! What suspension is on it, stock?
just an '80s Indy skid. Really pretty much the same skid as a 1980 and newer leaf spring TXL. Bolts in. No need to drill holes.
