    To avoid bubbles in your insulin vial, keep the vial upright and inject the syringe full of air into the vial. Because of gravity, the insulin automatically remains at the bottom of the vial and no bubbles are created. Then tilt the vial upside down to draw out insulin.

    Ohhh man, thank you for the video and your observations + tips!! My partner has T1, but also has pretty severe needlephobia. So when he finally got the dexcom 6... First 3 months were traumatizing to both of us tbh. He cannot place it himself, and if he was forced to, he would just go back to finger pricking. He's built up enough scar tissue so that the pen isn't a huge issue, but man, there is no goddamn way that countdown to the cannula insertion and beeping would go over well. Plus, he's an arm only type of guy. Could never use the abdomen, lower back, buttocks, or even the thigh because of the physical activity he does + the needlephobia. The arm works well because he can't watch me place it, and it's out of the way of clothing etc. This was super helpful, because as his partner I've been thinking lately after about 9 months of dexcom usage, an automated insulin system would be awesome. But with not only those caveats mentioned, the fact it only lasts for 3 days? Woof. Every 10 days is already too much poking in skin that hasn't been totally desensitized. Oh well, I'm just so thankful for the benefits of the dexcom outweighing the cons, moreso than the omnipod. He no longer wakes up in the middle of the night in a complete stupor because of low glucose, and we both feel better about him driving after a few too many close calls. This is all Definitely TMI, but whatever. Some things are worth the hassle and fear, some things are not, and are totally manageable with the 'old ways'. If its not broke, don't fix it, y'know? Thank you again for the honest review!

    Please can you give us your insights on cannula length / thickness of omnipod vs other infusion sets used in tslim/ ypsopump? Would be very helpful for those of us who are deciding on a pump but have concerns about cannula size because of being on the very skinny end.thanks.

    Type One for over 30 years. Still doing injections because it has always been how I have done it. Going to go see the doctor tomorrow about getting a pump and am terrified. Not sure why I am crying but it sort of feels like I'll be losing a part of who I am by switching. HOWEVER, here is what I know will happen. One week after I get going, I'll curse myself for taking so damn long doing it.
    Thanks for making it a bit less scary.

    Thank you very much for the clear, easy-to-understand, and honest information. Of course we all experience glitches when managing our diabetes. Stuff happens! I don't have a pump yet and am trying out the Omnipod, by which I mean that my diabetes educator gave me two trial pods filled with saline in order to give me a sense of the physical aspects of wearing one: weight, bumping into it, sleeping with it, keeping my dogs off of it, etc. I've been wearing my DEXCOM CGM for several years and frankly the Omnipod doesn't feel any different to me, yet. I guess I won't really know until I have the cannula inserted and it's pumping round the clock. Does it make a noise? Will alarms beep in an annoying way or will it allow me to sleep undisturbed as long as my readings and pumping are going smoothly? So much to learn.

    I have a questions about the omnipod. So I have a dexcom 6 now and I used to wear it on my arm but when I did that I always had the problem that it would give me low readings at nights because I always sleep on my arm. The question I now have is if I am going to have same problems with the pump when I wear it on my arm with the Insulin delivery? Btw I love your Videos about the omnipod keep up the good work!

  • @clairesteinke2818
    @clairesteinke2818 Рік тому +3

    Thanks for this. I had been considering trying these but I won’t now that I’ve seen your video. The thing I hate doing with my pump is filling the reservoir. I only use about 30 units a day so I would have to do the thing I hate far more often. I had thought that the pods would just end when you run out of insulin not after 3 days. I was also told they run through an app on your phone not a whole new device. Definitely not suited to me. I always learn something from your videos. Thanks!

    • @kirstenkay1399
      @kirstenkay1399 8 місяців тому +1

      Not so fast. I love Omnipod and could not ever go back to a tubed system. The pod only requires that you put in 80 units, if you are using 30/ day, I would put in 100,just in case you need extra for any reason. You can use your phone and app if it's an approved phone. I only use my phone. If you activate with your controller you have to use it for those 3days. You cannot switch back and forth during a pod session, but you can when you apply your next pod. I love Omnipod and could never go back to a tubed system. Wait until you have no tubes! 👍🏼 You can also push the end time by a few hours... It will let you know several hours before, but when it expires, it expires. I just aim to not have any of it when I'm trying to sleep. I think you'll love Omnipod.

    • @clairesteinke2818
      @clairesteinke2818 8 місяців тому +1

      @@kirstenkay1399 the tubes have never bothered me. The canulas are also too short. I need long ones so I know this won’t work for me. That’s great you love it but I can see that it doesn’t suit my needs. I’ll just try something else next time I’m getting a new pump.

    Why did we get it before you guys? Isn't that backward? I Aldo think the new PDM has a scanner for when the new Libre freestyle when approved. I hope we are close, not a dexcom fan. Once you go tubeless you won't go back! I tried tandem for a month, I couldn't do it!

    The minimun units of insulin in order to start the pod nis 85, not 80. This is to make the pod double beep and start the priming process.

      Just need to know how can I get paid? I’ll get a free device because I am a type one diabetic and my insurance is giving me a hard time saying that the doctor did not describe in writing why I need it. I am a diabetic. I’ll prick my finger three times a day and it’s quite painful and I do take medication for it. I take two types of medication One I have to take it two times a day how you don’t understand it all is it just because I live in a state of California or the color of my skin I don’t know but if I had X amount of dollars over $600 are $700 I wouldn’t be axing my insurance for nothing. Oh I am so annoyed I just found out I was a diabetic and I don’t know what else to do.

      I suggest tandem. Yes they are tubed but the tubing can easily be hidden and it has something called control IQ. Which means it stops sending insulin if your at 112 mg dl (for me) and starts giving more insulin if at 200. I’ve had it for almost a year and I really like it.

    • @Dan23_7
      @Dan23_7 Рік тому

      Libre lag a bit, the best tip I had (off Tom) is to fit a new sensor 24hrs before activating it. It seems to help them be more accurate. Recently though I had a sensor reading 16 !!!!!!!!
      Finger prick was 6.5. I peeled it off, emailed Abbott and they replaced it FOC.
      I’ve never heard of Dash.
