    For context, this game takes place on a space hulk, which is a conglomeration of star ships that crashed into each other on the tides of the Warp.
    The only way to destroy this kind of abomination is from within by detonating the power core of the largest ship, which is an extremely dangerous proposition even for Space Marines.

    One of the main reasons space hulks aren’t just destroyed immediately is it’s often very resource intensive (they can be very huge) however a VERY important reason is that sometimes space hulks hold ancient powerful tech that has been lost to time, they don’t want to risk destroying any STCs

    • @TheLegitWeebs

      Makes sense. In universe all the old tech is so much better and innovation is heresy. I can imagine any Adeptus Mechanicus being horrified at the idea of even considering to blow up a Space Hulk.

    4:40 The dark angels are green because the color scheme reflects the forests of their destroyed homeworld of caliban. Back in the great crusade/horus heresy, they wore black in honor of the knightly order that took in and raised their primarch lion'el johnson.
    9:50 Space hulks are massive conglomerations of wrecked ships smashed and fused together in the warp. Since a lot of the time the component ships in question are very very old, they usually contain a lot of rare and valuable tech which makes them sites for exploration and recovery. Otherwise exterminatus on a husk of debris with a possibly enormous population of xenos would be the imperium's number 1 policy.
    21:05 Deathwing is actually an adaptation of the board game space hulk which is a smaller-scale game with a different game system as regular 40k tabletop. And in the board game, doors are also super useful. On that note, more direct adaptations of space hulk have been made before starting with the 1993 game just called space hulk for the MS-DOS, 2013's space hulk, and 2018's space hulk tactics on pc.

    Space hulks are basically a mishmash of all types of ships, i mean you can have eldar mixed with human mixed with somehow fucking necron, tau, ork, some random xeno species, hell you could have a tyranid ship be apart of it, its basically a lottery of what you get, sometimes its a stc fragment, mabye if you're insanley lucky a actual stc which in that case drop it off at nearest mechiscist place and make sure your not spotted if your a normal dude somehow, cause that shit be worth more then your life and your entire planet, and so when you do so sit back if you can and watch the show, and sometimes you get a horrible warp spawn trying to tear you apart, tyranids trying to tear you apart AND eat you, orks, chaos worshippers, cultist of all types, the past mabye, ghost, a fucking daemon trying to tear you apart.... most of these things i realize will probably try eating you, hell if your really unlucky mabye a fabiouls biles newman is on there, mabye that one thing the imperium made which was basically tyranids 2.0 worse and somehow even more deadly (context: it made an entire chapter or so i believe of khornes worshipers fucking flee) or if your extreamly unlucky as in the gods and the emperor hate you unlucky you'll get a fully functional and awake and active man of iron staring at you

  • @lich109
    @lich109 2 місяці тому +11

    The single player in Deathwing was just okay. I wouldn't call it bad, but it could be better. Incidentally the reason you are wearing Terminator armour is to deal with the environment's own issues, not the genestealers. The armour provides very little protection against the xenos. It's also not a joke that their Primarch has been sleeping for 10k years before he finally woke up (to be fair, he was sleeping in a stasis capsule hidden away from sight).
    Another fun fact, that variation of Terminator armour literally cannot run. It's even in the tabletop rules that they can't run.
    The fanbase of Darktide on the other hand, is crazy. I mean that too, it's so easy to find reviews with 400+ hours in the game saying they don't recommend it because there's not enough content, and I'm just thinking "you played it for 400+ hours, how much longer do you want to play it for?"
    In terms of hours to the dollar, that's more than 10 hours of playtime per 1 USD spent on it. The reviews are also loaded with complaints that make no sense and direct lies.
    As an example, the top review (with 100+ hours) on steam had one complaint: "They wanted to make it a live service game but they did not delivered on this..."
    That was their one and only issue, and they're lying because at no point did the devs ever promise it would have a live service model, in fact they've strongly implied the opposite.
    The second review, with 800+ hours says: "All of this being said, do not buy this game. It is only complete in it's desire to wring time and money from you."
    For the record, the only thing you can buy are some cosmetics like in Vermintide 2, and saying a game is designed for you to keep playing it is like complaining drinks are designed to taste good so you'll drink them, that's the whole point. They also complain about how the game was at launch and hold that against it, even though the game was released 1.5 years ago and they're writing their review this month. I understand if the review was released that year, but when you're complaining about a version of the game that hasn't existed for a long time, that's just silly. The review even ends with them saying the devs should change the whole game into being a live service model, because that's what they believe it's supposed to be, even though the devs never said so.
    A UA-camr named Strawberin0 reacted to a Bricky video on Darktide (I'm talking about the longer of the two Bricky Darktide videos on his channel) and then spent a while going through the reviews, and he very quickly found people who played it for over 1000 hours and don't recommend it because they ran out of content. My personal favourite is somebody who left a not recommended review, which they posted after 215 hours. Their review started with technical complaints which are fair, before moving onto stuff they imagined should either work differently, or stuff thry imagined the devs said. The best part is they came back after the review to play it for nearly 300 more hours (their playtime is at 498 as of Strawberin0's reaction).
    His video also helped me realise there are far too many people who think everything should be a live service game, even when the devs never promise it. People don't seem to get that it's fine to for you to finish playing a game and be done with it, and that's why they'll play a game for hundreds of hours, run out of things to do, then go "it's unfinished" in their not recommended review, even though the game currently has a lot more content than the devs stated would be in it. This is also a problem some people have with Total War: Warhammer 3, it's not hard to find somebody who played Karl Franz's campaign for 300+ hours, and now they're asking for a rework (without giving an example of how it should be reworked), because they want to play it again and feel like it's a new experience. That's a feeling I understand, but it's also one I don't take seriously, especially when it (or something just like it) is used in negative reviews, and they get bonus points if they combine it with insults they imagine the devs made towards them. It's not hard to find the same players there complaining about CA supposedly being greedy, even though they're posting the review this month, AFTER CA added a ton of new units for free, is still rebalancing existing factions for free, and showed off a new faction they're adding to the game for free (Epidemius). Not to mention this is after they announced how they're splitting up the DLC based on community feedback, so that you only need to buy what you want to play instead of two other factions you don't care about.
    Plenty of other people make the same complaint, even though I (and I know critics like Mandalore feel the same way) would argue the game has the most ethical DLC policy, because you only get the content for the factions you want to play, and everything else is still in the game to fight against without barring you from it.
    Anyway, that's my angry rant over. I hate how stupid/entitled some people can be, and I wouldn't be mad at them if their complaints didn't include how they imagine a game should be/what a dev said. I've always felt that basing a review off what you wanted instead of what you got is the worst way to make a review, and when looking through reviews for any game, I would keep in mind that people's expectations and what they're complaining about in the reviews often have nothing to do with what the product promised it would be.

    It should also be said these are GENESTEALERS not full blown Tyranids. Genestealers being a subsect of Tyranids born from humans and other races meant to infest and weaken planets before signaling a Tyranid Hivefleet to descend for a free lunch (Genestealers are common to find in Space Hulks). In Space Marine 2 you are facing a full blown Tyranid invasion.

    far for being "extra battle gear" the terminator armor of a space marines chapter is the best what a marines can get. Only the best of the best ,are equiped with this things, and the armor give you the strengh to carry the most deadly weapons an ab-human infantry can use.
    Like the thunder hammer (space marines version) used only with one arms, where the other carry a shield to counter ennemies fire, or deadly weapons, you can get step on by a titan and surviving with this armor...
    And then, those fucking Tyranids kill a terminator with fucking little itsi bitsi claw... damn, fuck the lore.

  • @dagonofthedepths
    @dagonofthedepths Місяць тому

    Guess there is both a game and lore reason why they only send in terminators into space hulks which kind of doubles back to some gameplay issues with this game (also might rant a bit because logic issues lol).
    The lore reason was this massive space hulk called the Sin of Damnation was getting dangerously close to a hive world in the Secoris system in the year 996.M40. So, the Blood Angels chapter responded in their entirety and got nearly destroyed. They went in with around 1,000 men and around 50 walked out. They killed a good 12,000 genestealers but the mission was a total failure. A good 500 years later in the year 589.M41, they got to get another go at it. This time it was decided only 1st company vets in terminator armor would deploy. They went in with around 80 men and managed to slaughter an estimated 40,000 genestealers and recover an ancient chapter relic but they lost all but 1 guy. Still, losing 79 men to 1,950 and killing 3x the number of enemies showed the galaxy the value of sending in just 1st company vets in tactical dreadnought armor.
    Rant side of it is that makes little sense to me. Terminator armor, well it's not slow, that's kind of a misconception, but it is cumbersome. Plus, the main melee weapons they use for those things are thunder hammers and power fist. 2 very cumbersome weapons. Both are kind of in the camp of letting your opponent getting in a swing or having a well timed swing of your own and then flooring them with what amounts to an anti-tank weapon. Which works in that type armor except genestealers are extremely nimble foes with claws that can get through anything given enough time (gameplay wise, they got rending claws with if they roll really well to hit, they just straight up ignore armor which translates more or less in the same flavor in books). That's not really something you want to be tanking when they outnumber you 500 to 1. Plus to be honest, sci fi weapons jamming always urks me. It's a problem that you can solve now much less 10,000s of years in the future. I mean I get tech regression, but you should be able to make an automatic weapon that doesn't jam every 6 shots on average. It's kind of on the long list of things in 40k that make no sense but really are nitpicks as a whole to me.
    The game reason is Space Hulk is a 2-player board game where 1 player needs to lead 1 or 2 5-man squads to do an objective. Like burn this location or rescue this person or object. The Nid player gets unlimited genestealers to stop the Marine player. Most of the board is long single person wide corridors and the marines can overwatch, getting a free shot for each title a nid moves into but the gun jams if they roll a double. On the flip side, Genestealers need to run into melee range and they have a lot of trouble getting through terminator armor unless they roll a 6 to hit. They get a lot of attacks but if they fail to kill the marines return attack, if it hits, will just annihilate them. but if a gun jams then that marine is kind of screwed as the flood of nids is going to get him and the marine player can't replace units. So, the game is more about the marine player planning their route so they can closing off lanes of attack so a squad member can do the objective (locking doors, overwatching in very long stretches of corridors so the jamming issue isn't as much of a problem ect.). While the Nid player is trying to box the Marine player in so that's not possible.
    It's also the problem with Space Hulk: Deathwing game. It tries to resemble the tabletop as close as possible so you're in these massive maps filled with 1 man corridors, constantly getting ambushed, hoping the AI doesn't break or something you can't handle doesn't spawn and you just waste 30 minutes doing it again. Multiplayer kind of solves most of those issues though.

    The game really suffered from a very bad launch - it was so broken that you had to disable your audio devices from the device manger in order to bypass a massive memory leak on the first level which dropped your frames down to single digits, this was made even worse as the game was launched pretty much as the team was going out the door for the Christmas season (it think it was on 22th of December) which meant folks would have to wait till the new year before they would see any patches which didn't go down well as you could imagine. Sadly by the time all the main issues and the MP features were finally added in about 70% of those that brought the game at launch were already gone.
    Which is a shame as it was and still is a very fun game but you need to know the folks you want to play with and get them to buy it as its MP is borderline dead sadly.
