The Stadium Under Water - Gloucester City AFC

- In July 2007, above-average rainfall in the UK caused devastating flooding. Gloucester City AFC were one of the high profile victims of the 2007 floods as the River Severn, close by, severely flooded their stadium, Meadow Park, resulting in Gloucester being without a home for over 10 years.

Shame that it caused them to have to be nomads for so long... But can't help thinking that having a ground to close to the largest river in the UK this would've happened eventually.... I believe Worcester have been absolutely screwed over by their proximity to the Severn as well and have gone from FA Cup giant killings to just existing as pretty much nobodies in tier 10 in recent years, though I may be wrong on that and may be getting confused with the cricket ground instead 😂
Love the non league focus though, have been following my local team for the past 6 years and even though we have been mostly awful I still love it far more than following a team in the Prem
Having Meadow Park so close to the River Severn definitely its great. The stadium was severely flooded in 2000 and they were homeless for 6 weeks back then. I was reading that many kids in Gloucester didn’t know they had a football team because they had never played in the city during their lives. But Gloucester seem to be in a good place right now. Top of the National League north table before the lockdown ended the season. It’s exciting times for the club and I really hope they’re successful next season
Which team do you support Mr Shackleford
Nice video on Gloucester, thanks for sharing
Thank you
so much water. nice gloucester fans are back at home
Hope you enjoyed it
Very good video and interesting theme
Thank you for the support. We felt like this would be an interesting story not everyone has heard about
@@MillbrookFC 😲
@@A1fr102 hoping to change the videos a bit with some stories like this every now and then
@@MillbrookFC Ok bro , I will do a video of a team of England want team do you want ?
@@MillbrookFC Bro i lose 2 subs 😭
Thank you. That was really interesting. The stadium now looks great. Fun fact: Gloucester City AFC have now started a professional basketball club. They will initially play at the university but their intention is to build a basketball arena next to the football stadium, presumably on stilts.
Thanks mate I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I follow the Tigers a bit as I lived at the docks for a bit. Glad to see they’re expanding their business a bit with the basketball, which I guess they’re playing at Oxstalls Campus 💪🏻💪🏻
I hope to get to Meadow Park soon. What about you?
@@MillbrookFC yes that's right. I couldn't remember what it was called. My understanding is they are entering a team into the WBBL for the 2021-2022 season and plan to have a team in the BBL the following season. Oxstalls Arena will be big enough for them for a few years whilst they build up a fan base. I live in Swindon, so not very far away. I might become a fan myself.
@@MillbrookFC I love your videos but I'm not a massive football fan. I like to watch lots of different sports including basketball, netball, hockey, cricket, rugby and football. Basically any team sport with a ball.
@@frankie7529 thanks for the kind words mate. Glad to hear it
A nice story in the end. Good for them
100%
Nice to see the non-league game feature
Thanks
@@MillbrookFC I loved it mate
Do you think you’ll do anymore videos like this
@@teddymax2329 thanks mate
Nice looking stadium now well done for pulling through the nomadic years
The Gloucester owners have done a great job over the last few years in getting the club back to the city and stable
i have seen the photos of the flooded goal posts so many times so its a interesting video to understand the reason behind it
so many people have seen these photos but don't know the back story to it
I've seen them a lot too. I took them.
I think its poor management to have a stadium so close to one of the most dangerous Rivers in the United Kingdom
It was probably a case of only being able to afford this. The ground was severely flooded in 2000 but even worse in 2007. I’m glad their new ground is a lot more protective
But I’ve seen how bad the Severn can get in Gloucester when it floods
it is a shame they were exiled for 13 years but nice idea to raise the stadium. well done gloucester
Great news for Gloucester now. I hope they can get promotion next season
I might travel to Gloucester for a match and vlog it
@@MillbrookFC that would be cool
What's your thoughts on the video?
I loved it. Short but informative video on the topic
my favourite so far
