Sheffield FC's ground's entrance is through a pub
Ish... You can get in through the pub, but there are functioning turnstiles!
I went a couple of years ago and didn't enter through the pub..
I was there 2 weeks ago watching Prescot Cables vs Sheffield and I don’t know anyone who got into the ground through the pub
Jesus Christ
Its not
I'm in the US, and I am fascinated by English/European football stadia, architecture and history, and I loved this video. Subscribed! Cheers from Chicago.
That Dartford ground is beautiful
It really is
They used renewable timber you know, not that ordinary timber Renewable, re-new-a-ble.
I just seen this by interest and it's good to see Newcastle Towns ground with the velodrome. Love that ground.
1:39 thank you for using the picture from my blog! Love that picture and was a great groundhop!
OK here is another one for you Chester FC . They play at the Deva Stadium. What makes this stadium unique you ask, how about the fact that the stadium is in both England and Wales. Most of the stadium in on the English side of the border, but the main stand is actually on the other side of the border in Wales.
Actually, the stadium is in Wales, but only the building that protrudes from the back of the main stand is in England.
That's a quality fact. Worth a visit?
I checked it out and I was right about the stadium being in both England and Wales, but the rest of the detail that I thought was right were wrong.
But Chester play there...
Yeah you're right, all except the main stand is in Wales. When Chester reformed a few years ago they applied to play in the Welsh Premier but were denied!
My home town club (now defunct) Knypersley Victoria also shared with a cricket pitch. They couldn't play any home games on Saturday until the cricket season was over. Their highlight was reaching the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round and losing to Boston United in the mid 90s. Great video.
I was at that Boston game! October 1997, Boston won 1-0
That Great Yarmouth stand is stunning.
Why don’t you do the biggest and smallest ground from each League, top 7 tiers
Great video! Some lovely designs here. Some very nice choices that really show the weirdest and most wonderful in non-league!
My hometown is Great Yarmouth (born and bred)...and I've sat in that beautiful, listed grandstand at Great Yarmouth Town F.C. many times...(I can remember seeing the stand and ground packed to the rafters when we played VS Rugby in the F.A.Vase semi final back in 1983...)
I was in GY just earlier today. Is that stand open now ? Last time I actually visited it, it was still chained off.
I used to run there back in the '8os when I was at GYDAC.
Yes, I'm sure it is open now@@lewis72...there was certainly people sitting in there when I last went a couple of years ago...you're right though...it was chained off a few years back as it didn't meet fire regulations and didn't get a fire certificate but that's been rectified now.
@@garethfreeman3436
Oh, that's excellent. It would have been summer 2012 the last time I actually went to try to get into that stand. Even then, it brought back memories of my running days in the '80s when we all used to pile up in that stand, still with our spike running shoes on digging in the wood !
Gary Freeman - I was at VS Rugby game too and sitting in the stand - great memories of Great Yarmouth
Gary Freeman Same town :0
Nanpean Rovers’ ground is very obscure. Also Farnborough and Weymouth have two cracking stadiums.
Cover some of Scotland, some great weird grounds up here and just weird stuff in general!
Can't believe someone hasn't taken a can or two of paint to that Tesco Trolley park stand. Maybe it was given to them on account that they keep the logo in order to advertise Tesco, otherwise not smarting it up a bit is bloody absurd
I like it, gives it a bit of character, something to talk about. Otherwise it'd just be a bit of flimsy plastic.
It's been like this for nearly ten years funny thing is the local supermarket is a co-op and asda
They shud rename the ground to "Trolley Park"
I live 3 miles from there and I’ve walked past it so many times down the trail and haven’t even noticed it!
Every little helps...even when it means advertising a billion pound supermarket to a dozen or so non league supporters
You forgot my team, National League Leyton Orient. There's flats built on every corner of the ground.😀
Jason Scotcher is James alabi playing well?? From a Tranmere fan
Now you are in league 2
Wait why have you got a Liverpool profile pic
Why do you have a Liverpool badge, is Leyton Orient your local club?
@@lenmorris9674 probs
Take a look at Cowdenbeath FC's ground, they share with some race cars. Yes there is a race track around the pitch and the cars actually arrive 20 odd mins before FT and you can hear them getting ready before the whistle, give it a look!
Good to see Ilkeston on there.
Great video man 👍🏻
i great up near the ground of great yarmouth great to see you include it! love the content on the channel by the way very informative about non-league football
I live near it now.
A j same!
The Dripping Pan has flint walls on top of the grass banks which are listed structures. It has beach huts, a fresh pasta stall and an ice-cream kiosk. Fabulous!
How did I not notice Teversal's Tesco stand when we visited last season, certainly give them EXTRA marks for ingenuity
That #1 ground design with the cricket pitch wasn't that uncommon in days gone by. My Dad worked as a groundsman at Northants County Cricket Ground in the 1970s, and had to convert the pitch between sports a couple of times as it was shared with Northampton Town. Like the ground featured here, only three sides had stands, so an open field meant players would sometimes just boot the ball as hard as possible off the open side to waste time if protecting a lead. The other funny thing was that the ground was put on the far side from the Pavilion to protect the windows, meaning the players had to walk about 100 yards just to get to the pitch! One of the old football stands still remains at the cricket ground, albeit in a different location now.
its not uncommon in the a-league for teams to play in oval stadiums
@@TOTN17 good point yeah. When the second most popular sport is designed to be played on a similar field to the most popular, ovals must abound in Oz!
@@Snookbone there is a few through the wellington phoenix the new zealand side in the comp is currently the only team that permentally plays on a oval with melbourne victory playing its bigger matches at docklands due to the capicaty
Bramall Lane, home of Sheffield United, held cricket county championship matches until 1973. In that year, a stand was built on the fourth side and it became a football-only stadium. There was even an England v Australia Ashes test match there in 1902.
Watching this again I can't help agree with this. A lot of non league football posters don't have a clue about non league football. They say they like it but don't understand it. A great list!
I used to play for Teversal Colts as a kid, the trolley stands weren't there then, but we did have the main stand. Pretty good for kids football. As a Miner's Welfare, it also had a great cricket pitch, changing rooms and bar with function room.
Ludlow Town ground is a very clever idea. The main stand has seating etc looking onto a grass pitch. The back of this same stand has seating etc looking onto another pitch which is 3G. This clever idea enables just one smart stand with changing rooms and hospitality facilities etc to serve 2 pitches with different surfaces.
loved it thank you for a brilliant video a Stockport County fan
Chorley maybe with the huge hill opposite the main stand?
2:20 in rugby league in Australia, most Sydney grounds have a grass hill to sit or stand on
best one by far is WIN stadium for wollongong wolves and St George. got to love the main grandstant overlooking the grass hill and the ocean
In Norway there is a team in the fifth tier that plays in a ground that doubles as a racehorse track (for trot/harness racing).
Wealdstone FC (Conference South champions) ground, The Vale, has a concrete World War 2 anti-aircraft gun platform in one corner. It was used to protect the nearby RAF base at Northolt.
I live in Greenford.
#6 is my favorite on the list. Very cool looking venue.
Wingate & Finchley's stadium is called Maurice Rebak stadium. Harry Abrahams is the old name
I been to several non league grounds in the midlands, inc stourbridge, tamworth, moor green( now merged to solihull), and two clubs in the same area, halesowen town and halesowen harriers.
love this, do a part 2
Grantham towns ground is pretty interesting because at the south end they have a huge grass bank to block the prevailing wind and stop people watching a free game. Problem is the grass bank only blocks the wind to a height of a few metres so on goal kicks it can be... interesting! There's plenty of none league keepers who've been made to look very silly by that grass bank!
That Coventry stadium style is pretty common in Portugal. Clubs would only build the main stand for the season tickets owners and let everybody else just stand around the pitch
I am a league of Ireland fan and these stadiums look state of the art compares to our top division clubs.
I have ran the line at Newcastle Town's ground lovely little arena with the cycle track round the edge
Very interesting video mate!
Been to a few of these with Nantwich Town before, but my favourite has to be Ilkeston, the ground just has so much about it, I do miss going there
Ilkeston is like 5 mins away from me, I used to play for the youth team
I've played at Teversals Ground, former Clipstone FC player. I didn't even notice they was a tesco thing.
There were about 6,000 of us in the memorial ground about 40 years ago for the Welsh Cup Final vs Cardiff City.
Causeway Lane, Matlock also has a cricket double up. I've played cricket there.
You should do a Scottish non league video am Scottish and I know the stadiums are not great in comparison but I played for linlithgow rose a Scottish junior team prob the same as the top non league division and their stadium was descent. I know this is a English football channel but would be interesting and would be quite funny if anything as some of the stadiums are really quite quirky and some are dismal but would be really interesting
@wull how
But the national league and the N/S would probably rank above Scottish non league football and probably SL2
@@mojoe464 mostly likely mate. We had a few boys that moved down to teams like York. And also few boys that we signed from non league in England. Think it would be interesting to see a video on the Scottish non league stadiums though. However I know most stadiums are not great in comparison to English non league. There are a few really funny looking stadiums really quirky designs and even low most are shit think it would be something that would be very interesting
@@MartinJames389 my bezzie said what about berwick rangers & ashfield glasgow with the speedway track on the outside
No 4 looks like the stand at the central sports ground at Catterick, now sadly gone and covered in a car park and retail outlets. Anyone else remember it?
This was actually such a cool video 👍👍
Excellent as always..
First club I ever played for was Teversal at carnarvon street, I think the tesco trolley shelters were donated
Ilkeston and teversal are my locals, they’re class grounds for non league x
Great stuff, you should do the most scenic grounds..
here in australia it's very very common for the local football (aussie rules) club to share a ground with the local cricket club becuae both sports use the same size and shape field
Love the Aussie Culture of sitting with a pint on the grassy bank areas at stadia.
Saw Perth FC beat Sydney FC 2018-19 sat there. 3-1 I think, Le Fondre bagging for the away side.
Bridlington Town afc has a stand called the "bus shelter" which is literally 3 bus shelters bolted together,
Brilliant ! Lea. ..love it
5:53 Northampton's old ground was on the cricket club's pitch.
The good old County Ground. Been to that one
I can think of a couple grounds that double as cricket pitches, Mickleover sports in tier 7? Heanor town in the 10th?
Love those Tesco shelters. We got Stourbridge in the cup,may ask some of their fans what they think of their ground.
It's unique & pretty loud in the shed end specialy under lights but it has been improved alot in the last 10/12 years or so
having played at newcastle towns ground i was hoping it would pop up on here and yes its more than useful having a banked side and a cycle track to add to the steepness they must save a beer a game not needing a ball boy
You forgot to mention the fact that Wingates main stand is double sided. One side faces the football stadium and the other side faces the rugby pitch. I once went to a game where the football and rugby were going on at the same time and it was interesting sitting in the same stand as other people watching a different sport to them.
Yes, that's Finchley RFC. I've played rugby there and both games were going on simultaneously then, too. I think it's pretty regular, though I played there only once.
One stadium you should look at is Cowdenbeath F.C. in Scotland the pitch is in the middle of a race track
In Glasgow there is ashfield park that doubles a a motorbike speedway arena
do intreting stadiums of any sport in the uk ..odsal stadium (bradford bulls) a former quarry also used as wembly stadium for the kings speach
Don't forget the speedway aswell
@@kieracartwright5349 The Shay at Halifax had speedway til the mid 80s as well. They were a league club then
Dartfords little ground is unmatched for game day atmosphere also.
Stour's local rivals up the rd lye town is pretty unique aswell sharing the ground with lye cricket club
St. Albans City FC had a tree growing in the middle of the terrace behind one of the goals up until 1999
Holmesdale before they removed their stand is a shout. Proper old school.
Sir! you must look into the rise and fall of Sittingbourne FC - The original ground was sold to Sainsburys for £6m. A new stadium was built with a potential capacity of 35000 (yes, thirty five thousand)...After much shenanigins its now a greyhound racing track
Decent vid bossman
Stour aye we
Matlock Town - Riber Castle overlooking the ground and part shared with cricket.
Top video mate
New subscriber Mate. Massively enjoyed this video, also most of your previous videos. Keep it up Mate👍
I don't know if it's because I grew up near st helens in Swansea (cricket stadium which was used for some local football matches) but don't think that sharing with cricket is that unique
The velodrome one was really weird
It isn't. Bramall Lane used to be 3-sided because it was also a cricket ground. Yorkshire played there and it even staged Test Matches (2, I think).
Northampton Town used to share with a county cricket team until the 90s too.
Sandygate road, Hallam fc is also shared with a cricket pitch and it is the oldest ground in the world still being used.
Oldest cricket ground or oldest football ground still used? Maidenhead United are recognised as having the oldest football ground in continuous use as a football ground.
Also Hallam's has one heck of a slope on it, must catch out away teams
The pan siro! COYR! 🔴⚫
Slightly off ground topic, but how about a feature on a few of the less regular teams in the final FA Cup qualifying round.
Pickering Town is still situated on a cricket pitch.
Woo! Go Lewes!
Saw great yarmouth on here
Im watching
Bradley Miller same!
Good vid, but suprised not to see Hitchin Town on here with its wooden terraces
For pitches west Auckland fc because the pitch is like a hill it sloops down a lot
Northampton and Sheffield United used to share their ground with cricket pitches.
Beavis and Butthead would like Coventry's ground, on the basis of it's name.😂
Weston super mare fc- Stand behind the goal is very unique!
Heanor Town FC shares with a cricket club too
old wycombe wanderers ground on the slope was pretty dire
How about a top 10 of the smallest non league stadiums?? You've done the 10 biggest, which I've added to a playlist of my favourite videos of this channel, so how about the ten 10 smallest?? 👍
Big up Newcastle town🏴⚽️⚽️
Matlock Town is also a cricket pitch.
Not true about Ilkeston fc ground there is room for a full sided stand just did not have the cash at the time.
This is correct they planned full length but as normal Ilkeston spent all the money plenty of room around
A question to fellow subs. Will Salford city have to move if they get promoted. I’m a big Salford fan ( before the money. ). And I think moor lane ( yes I still call it that. ). To not up to scratch.
Jacob Stameiro I only ask because there’s a ready made replacement which I go to as well. Aj bell stadium. Salford reds rugby league.
Good to see dartford on there
I would love to combine #2 & #3 in to one massive stadium
Pickering Town also share a pitch with the towns cricket team
Stourbridge number 1! My local non league ground. Good choice
AFC Liverpool have a very strange stadium, its wedged between two streets and big stand behind the goal
Should have done Shrewton UTD they have no seats. And the stadium is called "the Rec". Because they play on the local recreation ground. 😀
Lewis have such a good stadium
Nat just saying that because I live there
Top of the league
We are in the 7th teir
Newcastle town is my local team, so weird to see them on a youtube video
mate football using a oval is not uncommon in the a-league, melbourne victory play there bigger matches out of dockland stadium which is for afl which is played on a oval and victory have also played out of kardina park which again is for afl, sydney fc currently use the sydney cricket ground for there bigger matches, wellington phonix play out of westpac stadium which is an oval, adelaide united has hosted matches at adelaide oval which is for cricket and afl in the past, perth golry used perth stadium to host a friendly aganist chelsea a while ago and the new expansion team western melbourne group fc (no offical name yet) will use kardina park for at least 3 seasons
do a Welsh leauge one
Great Yarmouth tiwn I live near there
Up the glassboys!
