My taotao gy6 is reving by itself and engaging the back wheel trying to drive through the garage door and take a spin around the block all by itself. I've spent hours with the carb screws, throttle cable and adjusted the valves. Now I'm down to the clutch and variatior. I got it used and it only had about 20ml of gear oil in it. I hate this thing but I love it at the same time . I've learned a lot of new stuff over the past couple months.
Love your videos. I have something bad going on inside the gearcase or maybe the clutch. not sure which but sometimes when i take off it makes a horrible sound like my kickstand is dragging on the ground but its not. Sometimes with the sound it jerks a bit for a few feet. Only occasionally and more so when its hot outside. Other times it runs smooth, quiet and perfectly. Do you have any idea what may be causing this noise?

Hi, what if it's not making noise but the flywheel just keeps spinning and the bike won't start? I've seen some vids say it's the starter clutch, but one person will say it's the thing under the flywheel while another person will say it's inside the kickstart gear box. Which part is actually the starter gear?
I was in an accident with mine (crashed into a bicyclist) which resulted it to lay on it's exhaust side but when i rode home i noticed lot's of oil coming from the airflter (opposite side) and a fairly large amount of drop in power.. What's your take? All the oil everywhere except the engine itself?
I put an 80cc big bore kit in. After I finished, it was very chatty. Checked the valve clearance, valve springs, timing chain tensioner, timing chain guide. Everything good. Did a test-adjusted the valves to zero (tappet touching the valve) and ran the engine. Tapping sound went away. Readjusted the valves to .004. Sound came back. I’m assuming at this point that that’s how this make/model engine is supposed to run. Outside of that-plenty of power. Starts right up on the first try.
@@franciscopendexter1943 stays chatty even when hot. Nothing ear piercing mind you-but more noticeable than the 50cc. But again-starts on the first try. Plenty of power.
Any ideas on a popping sound on pressing the ignition switch? (Honda Forza 300) a One off pop that seems to only happen once engine is cold. No noises whilst riding the scooter
Hi got a 50cc gy6 scooter ,at 30 mph + getting a rubbing noise and can feel it under foot to the variator clutch side of bike .It gets stronger as I accelerate, was thinking could e the belt as I haven't changed it for about 8 thousand miles.any ideas?thanks in advance Carl from England UK.
It sounds like the belt may be rising up too high and rubbing against the inside of the CV cover. Take the cover off and inspect according to my other GY6 video. Thanks!
I have a weird vibration and noise that only starts up at speed. Around 30 to 35 mph on the speedo, it slowly gets faster but once I get higher around 40-45 it goes away.
Thanks for the reply. I ran it on the stand, and it seems the CVT belt may be rubbing something when it gets up to speed. I have only had the scooter for around a year though and only about 2557 km on it. But it looks like I'll have to try and open up the CVT and look at it.
hello I enjoyed the video.i bought a gy6 that had 3k on it but sat in shop for 1.5 years..i got it running ( won't get into that tour) but once running it sounded great,a ran great .after 800 miles or so we had gusty winds and bike fell over at gas station..exhaust sounded different immediately and then a low speed knock,but high speed no knock,but rapsey exhaust.any suggestions? thank you very much
Ok so this has been kind of helpful but please allow me to describe what my 2018 Tao Tao racer 50 is doing. It's not knocking at all but it has this aweful squealing & so far it's only done it when I'm riding it. The rate of speed does not matter either... it's done it going 37-40 mph as well as 3-5mph pulling into my driveway. it's brand new with less than 790 miles on it. Any thoughts???... I would greatly appreciate your feed back... Thanks

Sounds like the roller weights fell out of position. You'll need to remove the variator to check. I hear a loud CLANK! at start up. Def metal. I have changed the starter. I have a gy6 taotao 150cc scooter. Could it be the bendix? It's def coming from the flywheel side. My bendix is not on the cvt cover side.
thats what happened to me about the piston and the walls, it was scratched inside. I just replaced it and i still have the lost of power and knocking still, it has oil, I guess its either the oil pump, or crankshaft barring. I even made sure the piston rings were correctly clocked
I just bought a znen 150cc t-e. At the end of a long drive this weekend (going about 50mph for 45min), I noticed some smoke around the battery, now the electric starter doesn't work. I have to kick start it each time. Any idea what the problem may be? Do you think I blew a fuse, ?

Swap out the (3) clutch springs, contra spring, and rollers in the varaitor. I use 1500rpm springs for everything, and install 15gm rollers. You may have to play around with the roller weights. I prefer 15gm for my 150cc because I live in a hilly area. If you want really good gas mileage use a heavier roller 16-18gm. I have a video showing how I changed mine out.

how about if there is a knocking during idle gear and after throttling? but if you are in hi rpm or throttling the knocking sound gone and sometime even in idle gear or after throttling there is no sound..what would be the problem of this sir any advice?

I was running low on oil in my Kymco Vitality 50 but it wasn't very low and I didn't have the low oil warning lit up so when I checked it was low very low but still when I was shaking the bike I could see some liquid wobbling I went straight to the shop fill it up but the knocking remained

Damian Vargas Remove valve cover and check valve adjustment according to my step by step video on my channel. With the valve cover off, loosen timing chain tension only enough to see if there is any play in the camshaft bearing. Pull in and out on the camshaft, there should be no play.

I have a newer scooter, just hit 500 miles and adjusted the valves. Now it has a fast tick when I run over 35 mph. The faster I go over 35, the worse the ticking is. I've adjusted the valves 3 or 4 times now and cant get it to stop. .003 and .004. I've also tried .003 and .004. .004 and .004. Nothing seems to help
Make sure you set them right, usually intake has different values to exhaust. These are the values on a Yamaha Nmax for example IN. 0.10-0.14 mm. EX. 0 21-0.25 mm
Hey there . I have a 300cc scooter , was hoping you could help . Firstly when it’s cold . I have tons of vibration on pull away but scooter drives fine . Then once the scooter gets hot that vibration goes away . But a new problem arises . Only once it’s hot . On pull away there is no power . The more I open the throttle the more it ticks . The louder the tick becomes . But once I start to pick up speed . It goes away on top speed mainly . And I get almost the usual top speed I normally get . But then coming to a stop . Slight burning smell . There isn’t any smoke . The scooter did run on low oil (not empty). I have recently topped the oil . But it still has that sound . Only once hot and only on pull away . No power and light light ticking noise id call it .

I was starting my scooter using engine handle and after few kicks I started to make noise like krrkrkrkrk and then I started it with electric start then i touched the engine handle and it started again (If I dont touch it , it make noise but less) help me please its not my bike and Im scared

I have 90km on a new 50cc Oahu (guessing it is Gy6), Has anyone noticed or know what a gentle whistle or howl on the left rear could be? It almost sounds like a wind noise... could be the wind. I just don't want to overlook anything as I am still tuning and getting started.
Great video good detail appreciate your time while making it I have a 150 GY6 and I'm having an issue trying to figure out a noise I've done all the work to my bike replace the rings and head cam rockers and all that to an extent.. I'm definitely a GY6 connoisseur but have not ever broke down the crank case itself .. I have loud noise ripping and grinding on some starts and sometimes when I turn the motor off at the very end got a Milder ripping and grinding noise kind of like where it's settling into place for next startup I do believe it's got to do with the starter clutch I've checked the starter and the index look both perfectly fine.. I'd appreciate you get back with me or somebody to get back with me on a heads up cuz I can know what to prepare myself for appreciate your all the time!
I don't know about that but I do know that it does not do it at all when the spark plugs out and there's no compression but it does it almost every other time I try to start it was with compression in a spark plug in but I will try the kick-start thing tomorrow and get back with you thank you for replying will get back in touch tomorrow

if you had a bad crankshaft bearing that you could pick up by wobbling, the belt case would be messy with oil long before then and you would have belt slip
In have a video I just posted on my Chan, I can't figure it out. I've adjusted valves several times and still can't get rid of this ticking sound from the front end. Of anyone can take a look at the video and listen, I'd greatly appreciate it.
electronicsNmore bolts on my exhaust are on tightly. I'm scared to ride it too much because I don't want to mess anything up. I got gaskets coming in the mail tomorrow and I plan on switching them all out. Anything I should look for particularly while I'm disassembling it? I'll try to post videos on here while I'm doing it.
electronicsNmore also had a small oil leak coming down one of the exhaust bolts and just listened to another video and it does sound a lot like that. Not sure if the oil leak was from the gasket seal there that was leaking or if it was actually coming from the bolt on the exhaust that's on the same side as the gasket leak.
electronicsNmore so I just opened up my crank case and my cylinder heads have the imprint of my piston on them. That can't be good. Not sure what to do from here.
It was the transmission oil. Good thing for your vids, I only ridden a mile when I checked it out. I was about to give up and see if it went away by itself. Boy I would have been disappointed!
My tao tao thunder that I put an 80cc big bore kit upgrade on just stopped working while I was driving and I pushed it home and it started up again when I tried. It makes a rattle when accelerating now. Any idea what it is? I have had no problems with this thing ever

From my experience that sounds pretty normal. A small amount of tapping is normal and will go away as engine temp rises due to expansion from heat.

@wangduc542 the bearings on the crankshaft were gone, I changed the whole crankshaft for 200 eur, and now its quiet.

Either a bad tire(or out of balance), or a worn bearing. You need to pinpoint the location.

If you can't rotate the engine by hand, then you must have internal damage.

I had a belt snap once dong about 40-45 mph. It in turn ruined the variator. The variator could no longer return to low gear after take off.

Wires are easy to replace. The usual parts shopping terms are, "GY6 / 150cc / chinese scooter".

Possible worn bearing. Inspect the camshaft bearings for excessive play.

Yes. But don't put your hands or feet anywhere near moving parts.
The 50cc gy6 has a different starter setup which doesn't work when the side cover is off
Not all of them. I have 50cc gy6 long case that will start without cvt cover. Either way, it won’t hurt to try.

Better do a compression test after adjusting the valves. You can buy a new head and piston with rings if needed.

10thPanzerKorps Have you inspected the camshaft? That causes knocking when the bearings become heavily worn.

i have kymco movie 125cc whenever pass 80km ( used to be at 100km but after 2 week become do that in 80km does wired sound i can't tell where its come from tbh does look like from engin but shouldn't do that on only 80km if that the case i'm really lost and i don't know where i go with this problme any help or tip would be wonderfull thx and sorry for my bad englihs
So my moped makes this ticking noise but it only does it when it is heated up. It sounds electrical, I just dont know where to look first. Any ideas.
You need to pinpoint the exact location.
I watched your video and I'm sure its the cooler fan hitting the coil. Can you send me a link on your video on how to fix that.

when my gy6 taotao 50 is on main stand and rear wheel is off ground,when i go to free hand spin the rear wheel i noticed its hard to turn and must use alot more power to be able to turn the wheel!! whats the issue?
Either a faulty clutch or a problem with the brakes.
wtf how did he pull his clutch open so easy to put the belt in like he demonstrated. mine is way harder to close with your fingers!

well nothing but the mirror,I adjusted valves,but now it doesn't wanna start I am gonna re adjust in am..i did find some gasket material in oil
What could be causing grinding sound before it actually tries to start.
Many things, you need to pinpoint the location. Could be a worn bearing or damaged piston/cylinder.
I have a newer scooter, just hit 500 miles and adjusted the valves. Now it has a fast tick when I run over 35 mph. The faster I go over 35, the worse the ticking is. I've adjusted the valves 3 or 4 times now and cant get it to stop. .003 and .004. I've also tried .003 and .004. .004 and .004. Nothing seems to help
Every scooter has different valves settings. Check the manual or any sticker that might indicate it (usually inside the saddle).
Make sure you set them right, usually intake has different values to exhaust. These are the values on a Yamaha Nmax for example IN. 0.10-0.14 mm.
EX. 0 21-0.25 mm

Hey there . I have a 300cc scooter , was hoping you could help . Firstly when it’s cold . I have tons of vibration on pull away but scooter drives fine .
Then once the scooter gets hot that vibration goes away . But a new problem arises . Only once it’s hot . On pull away there is no power . The more I open the throttle the more it ticks . The louder the tick becomes . But once I start to pick up speed . It goes away on top speed mainly . And I get almost the usual top speed I normally get . But then coming to a stop . Slight burning smell .
There isn’t any smoke .
The scooter did run on low oil (not empty). I have recently topped the oil . But it still has that sound . Only once hot and only on pull away . No power and light light ticking noise id call it .
Heyy i need help. I was starting my scooter using engine handle and after few kicks I started to make noise like krrkrkrkrk and then I started it with electric start then i touched the engine handle and it started again (If I dont touch it , it make noise but less) help me please its not my bike and Im scared
Nothing I can do. You have the scooter. You need to pinpoint the location of the noise.
I have a 50cc spree moped it ran fine but someone to heavy jumped on it now it makes a grinding sound and does not go fast

I have 90km on a new 50cc Oahu (guessing it is Gy6), Has anyone noticed or know what a gentle whistle or howl on the left rear could be? It almost sounds like a wind noise... could be the wind. I just don't want to overlook anything as I am still tuning and getting started.

Great video good detail appreciate your time while making it I have a 150 GY6 and I'm having an issue trying to figure out a noise I've done all the work to my bike replace the rings and head cam rockers and all that to an extent.. I'm definitely a GY6 connoisseur but have not ever broke down the crank case itself .. I have loud noise ripping and grinding on some starts and sometimes when I turn the motor off at the very end got a Milder ripping and grinding noise kind of like where it's settling into place for next startup I do believe it's got to do with the starter clutch I've checked the starter and the index look both perfectly fine.. I'd appreciate you get back with me or somebody to get back with me on a heads up cuz I can know what to prepare myself for appreciate your all the time!
Does it do it using kickstart?
I don't know about that but I do know that it does not do it at all when the spark plugs out and there's no compression but it does it almost every other time I try to start it was with compression in a spark plug in but I will try the kick-start thing tomorrow and get back with you thank you for replying will get back in touch tomorrow

Anything possible, especially if it's a cheapo Chinese belt.
Can some one give me so info on my Honda lead its like trys to start then when it did kinda it was a horrible noise and then when throttle was pulled it cuts off straight away if anyone no about bikes and can help would be much appreciated
if you had a bad crankshaft bearing that you could pick up by wobbling, the belt case would be messy with oil long before then and you would have belt slip
In have a video I just posted on my Chan, I can't figure it out. I've adjusted valves several times and still can't get rid of this ticking sound from the front end. Of anyone can take a look at the video and listen, I'd greatly appreciate it.

electronicsNmore bolts on my exhaust are on tightly. I'm scared to ride it too much because I don't want to mess anything up. I got gaskets coming in the mail tomorrow and I plan on switching them all out. Anything I should look for particularly while I'm disassembling it? I'll try to post videos on here while I'm doing it.
electronicsNmore also had a small oil leak coming down one of the exhaust bolts and just listened to another video and it does sound a lot like that. Not sure if the oil leak was from the gasket seal there that was leaking or if it was actually coming from the bolt on the exhaust that's on the same side as the gasket leak.
electronicsNmore so I just opened up my crank case and my cylinder heads have the imprint of my piston on them. That can't be good. Not sure what to do from here.
Mine is making a bubbling sound and won't start
When i pass 37 mph it does this grinding noise and it doesnt let me go faster
Pull off the CV cover and see if something has rubbed the inside of the cover.
When I get to 40msper its sound like its grinding
Take a look inside the CV cover to see if something is rubbing against the inside.

Just took your first bit of advice and checked the oil, and there wasn't any. The drain bolt had vibrated off.
Not good. Hopefully the engine wasn't damaged.
It was the transmission oil. Good thing for your vids, I only ridden a mile when I checked it out. I was about to give up and see if it went away by itself. Boy I would have been disappointed!
My tao tao thunder that I put an 80cc big bore kit upgrade on just stopped working while I was driving and I pushed it home and it started up again when I tried. It makes a rattle when accelerating now. Any idea what it is? I have had no problems with this thing ever
Also I have a feeling my engine is getting hot faster than it ever has.
