Haha this almost two years old, but yes Benjamin nailed it. My partner and myself have been repeating for a decade that "we live in paradise". Maybe we will see ya on the water,10/4 s/v Laysan.
Adore when marine life choose to join us on our adventures. My brother in law is originally from Vancouver island. Lives next door to us in Ireland. My niece lives there now almost 3 years.
Remember WAY back when I said you guys would get better? Well, you did. You have come a long way in the past several months and your channel reflects quality in content. Congratulations. Its good to see someone from the PNW exploring our world (Im in Seattle) and being perfectly honest about what you do right and sometimes do wrong. I see you are over the 10K hump in subs. Keep it coming and you will grow. You might consider a weekly show or maybe intermediate shorts between regular shows. Regular activity can grow the channel.
hey Douglas thanks for checking in! We would love to go to weekly episodes, but with a busy summer ahead of us trying to squeeze in as much sailing on the west coast of van island, and boat projects and both working full time (and all the other life things), it’s just not feasible for us to consistently upload weekly... yet. We know it’s super important to keep growing though, and have a goal to start weekly videos after this summer cruising season when both of our jobs will be less busy and we’ll be mostly dockside fixing up the boat for the big turn left to Mexico :)
Great episode. I love seeing the abundance of wild life you have in Pacific Northwest. We do not see that in east coast. You are so fortunate you can cruise and work remote. I am jealous.
Great video. I wonder if the dolphins sensed the orcas in the area and were leaving for a safer place, great catch there Ben. Hope you have a better year on the water than you had last year, take care and be safe.
.... Hey ya all .... was delighted to see another video from Breaking waves in my notifications, had the check the calendar to see where we were in the month ... are you going weekly or is this a valentines special ..... brilliant seeing both a pod of Orcas and the mega pod of Dolphins ... glad the Dolphins were taking up the rear, apparently Orcas will separate a Dolphin from a pod and chase it till it can no more and then, well that is what happens in mum nature. .... thinking about it and came up with, a cruising boat is more or less a cabin that you move as you please and be secluded with mum nature wherever your heart desires anywhere on the globe ... well when this pandemic thing isn't shafting us all ..... thx for sharing, excellent episode ... as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
Hi Peter! Yah we decided to move out videos to every other Sunday. We are really keen to go weekly but we are thinking between both working full time and getting a bunch of sailing in this summer, that bi-weekly is the best we can do... but maybe later this head after the business of summer is over :) Thanks for the message as always!
@@BreakingWavesSailing .... laughing ... well you must think I am right out of it, no I do not partake in Mary-J-Wanna ... I looked at the calendar and thought it was a week early, then comment on V-day which is pretty much mid month .... Bi-weekly is a good thing .... get the felling that some become a slave to the process of weekly videos ... thx for the reply Mandy .... have a fantabulous week ......
wow .......just wow ! The scenery, the weather, the Salmon, the Dolphins, the Orca and a Humpback (?) whale ! Well done guys.......and everything recorded in a cool , calm and collected manner by Alie 😂😂 ( who deffo needs coffee in the a.m. before attempting serious dialogue 😜) Well done guys - videos like this should help push up the subscriber numbers 👍
Consider a decent GSM signal booster / aerial setup. We get 1bar without it - in particular spots and 5 bars with it, anywhere! Easy fix, providing you have the power to run it, think it consumes around 5 watts of power per hour. I'd tell you what model I have, but it's bolted to the wall and the info is all on the back side.
Thanks for bringing me back from a little bit of the leaky eyes with a transition to Alie in her bikini. No grown man should get emotional seeing dolphins. Happy Valentines day guys
LOL The chaos of landing that salmon. :D I Love the enthusiasm. From one fisherman to another well done! p.s. I looked it up. That pod was of Pacific White Sided Dolphins if anyone wants to know. Cheers!
The Orcas are stunning but interestingly they've been attacking yachts in the North Atlantic, off the Spanish coast. It's a large enough problem that is appearing on chart plotters as a navigational hazard. Mothership Adrift discuss them on their latest video as the exit the Med.
Since 3.5g, and specially in 4G LTE, "bars" is a very poor indication of data speed/quality. Of couse you must have a least some signal, but sometimes, 1 bar of good service is great (specially if the base station is not congested) and 4 bars can be useless. Looking at ASU on the Signal strength menu of you phone (Android) will give you a better indication. Or simply a speed test with special regard to jitter and packet loss (important for video calls). Also, an wifi modem with 2 external antenas (even the 10cm ones) can give you a great boost in signal, specially if you send it up the mast with a battery pack, just make sure antena orientation is kept at optimal. Great video guys. CheerS
I also saw a super pod of dolphins in Haro strait moving north with lots of speed. Neat I thought. Then, a few minutes later, two orcas chasing after them.
I've been there. Woke up one morning at the isthmus of Gooch/Rum Island with the keel kissing the bottom. Tide came up, pulled up anchor and on my way. No harm, no foul.
Yes we are lucky to call these waters home! Next season is going to be a little more rugged, remote and open to swells from the Pacific on the west coast of Vancouver Island :)
Very nice and an impressive amount of marine life. I am curious how you cooked your catch. I've never been in a position to catch northern fish species.
Fresh salmon (raw) is nice for sushi. Alie likes to cook it for about 12-15 mins in an oven with lemon and dill and Ben likes to cook it over a fire on a soaked cedar plank wrapped in tinfoil. Thanks for watching!
It is always amazing when you see dolphins racing racing towards you like torpedoes. What an utter disgrace that we dump so much rubbish into their environment. Your sailing waters look relatively clean but I am sure you see your share of crap. Another great video guys.
@Richard Boote It wasn't meant badly and I did consider the appearance of "Deeply irked from Tunbridge Wells." when making the comment. Thanks for your appearance and offence on Tyler's behalf. I sure he is appreciative of your pity. Now go watch his video and subscribe. ;) But however in some respects, and it pains me greatly, you are absolutely correct. EDIT And I humbly apologise for the denigration of Ty's drinking abilities. He is a sky diver and probably better at it than me.

Have you guys invested in improving your cellular range? So many options available. Check out "Mobil Internet Resource Center" for lots of good info. Having a better cellular data setup could allow you to anchor a lot more places.
not yet, we made due last summer in part wondering if Starlink might be a viable option. But that’s looking to be a few years off for sailboats at this point so we’ll do a cell booster install this spring
@@BreakingWavesSailing We are crossing our fingers for Starlink too. Cheapest and easiest cell solution may be to get a mobile hotspot or jet pack and hoist it up in the rigging. You can add a long USB cable to power it if you like. After that, adding antennas will help with range. Get a hotspot that allows you to add external antennas. This setup can let you use two antennas (MIMO) to get better data speeds. If you get a normal cell booster, your data speeds may be lower. I've been looking into this because we plan to buy a boat and boat and cruise the PNW up to Alaska. We cruised the Caribbean for a few years and loved it.
I think back when they caught 50-80 pounders off Campbell River! Alie would definitely pee her pants! She almost made me watching her! You need to go fishing off Rivers Inlet.
Dolphins don't like salmon(smells too fishy), their most preferred meal is a nice Cobb salad, of course the grilled chicken and crisp bacon must be replaced with seared Ahi(tuna). Like many pescatarians they are lacto-ovo so the Roquefort cheese and hard-boiled eggs are devoured voraciously.
Please explain to me what this means. " l can see the bottom of the water." You can see the beginning of the ground under the water, but you can't see the bottom of the water....🙄
It's nice to see Canada's beauty. Sunny Turkey is a completely different thing. It's nice to see the unusual. Maybe its a bit meh for you but from the azure blue we have here the sea colour is awesome. Also we have no salmon. :(
