- A rather curious tale about how I was almost recruited into a 'Mastermind Group' that uses Amway (a multi-level marketing company, MLM) to generate cashflow. I explain the vetting process of the group, and my reasons for turning down this opportunity.
I know there is a lot of anti-MLM content on YT, and others are all for it. I try to remain impartial on the subject and weigh up the opportunity in the context of my own life.

OMG!!!! this is scary. I just messaged my mentor to let them know that I am no longer interested. Like you I was really excited and was eager but the vagueness of it all was too strange. I knew there was a catch I just could not figure it out. As soon as they mentioned amway I went online to check and saw the truth.
you dodged a bullet
I just did the exact same thing. They made me take some notes from some podcasts and read “Business of the 21st century”. The next meeting i had with them they mentioned amway and they said this is not a pyramid scheme but reversed. I did my research on amway and i was out. Pretty scary
Guess you are easily swayed by other people's UA-cam videos. Have a mind be individual, and be happy.
Recently was recruited by a married couple about being my mentor had three coffee dates at Starbucks about financial freedom and owning a business I already own my own business I’m a nail and makeup artist so i thought they could help me learn how manage my money better thats how I’m here now i didnt even care about the money because i dont need it i was just happy to have a older mentor they speak in circles so i didnt kno anything about it until they recently invited me to a zoom meeting with their “mentor” and they started talking about amway.i instantly started googling and saw almost exact stories of what’s happening to me Its sad im 22 and can’t believe older ppl would try to put young ppl in a bad financial situation especially in this economy..
So you just listened to some random person on UA-cam and gave up without trying?
You can't make any real money with Amway. If you work really hard you might break even or make around minimum wage once you deduct all of your expenses but most likely you will lose money. The only way to make it to the top 1% of Amway earners is to get in a time machine and go back in time and join when it was first started.
If a person needs to lie or exaggerate their position, it’s probably something that you shouldn’t involve yourself in.

You're very perceptive - multilevel marketing companies like Amway have a 99% failure rate. You spend a ton of money and when you're not succeeding, you're told you need a better mindset, which costs more. It truly is a deceptive scheme disguised as a business. Thanks for helping raise public awareness!
businesses have a 99% failure rate you can spend money in any business and still fail, how any businesses do you know that you can start with $400 a month?
Thank YOU 😊
@@therichfailure Check out the small business administration. MANY other businesses have a far better success rate than MLM. Network Marketing isn't the only business that has a low start up cost. For instance, a UA-cam content creator.
I made it to the top 1/10 of 1 percent in MLM and defended the industry for years, so if you are in MLM at present, all I can say is: keep a profit and loss statement and have everyone in your organization do the same. If you're really daring, read Robert Fitzpatrick's book, Ponzinomics.
Your own business actually has a 50% chance of success within the first 5 years, nice try. Getting into business yourself has a better outcome than with amway
@@therichfailureIt's not your own business. You have zero control over it. What business is dependent on you recruiting more people to do what you do? If you start a coffee shop why would you want to recruit more people to also sell coffee.
Thank you so much for this, I'm literally going through this now! It's been 'marketed' to me as a mentor group / personal development group (not sure if it's Amway or not). I've been approached by a trusted individual who said they were going to quit their job in a few months thanks to this, I was impressed too. I was given the exact same e-book to read this weekend but I've just had this 'gut' feeling the whole time that something about this was ...scammy. Instead of products, this one was something to do with helping franchises.
I've got a 'follow up' meeting about this tonight and all the meetings have been really forced on me, I didn't know what I was saying yes to really. I even when I said I was literally away on that day for a meeting and he was very adamant to make it. I'm going to push back vehemently now and make sure the meeting tonight is the last. I feel quite annoyed that I've been poached and seen as an 'easy target' but I'm so glad for people like you for putting this out there so I've been informed and dodged a bullet!
You’re welcome! Exactly why I made this video - it was all so vague and sounded too good to be true. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been approached by a trusted individual - it can certainly make things awkward with the person who is trying to recruit you after the ordeal (and sad if they want nothing to do with you after because you said no). Hope it’s smooth sailing for you saying no, and glad you are listening to your gut feeling on this. Good luck! 💕
Don't do it keep doing
At least one of these groups is called The HIP Group.
Was run through virtually the same exact process, including the order of books to read.
Just because it falls just below the threshold of illegal, because you CAN (but likely won’t) earn more than the person who recruited you, doesn’t mean you should do it.
Thank you. This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen about Amway. I was told the products sell themselves once you have established clients, but I can't imagine there are a ton of people jumping to purchase Amway.
Glad it was helpful!
@@rachelsmith5643 When I was in the business back in 1971, I had no problem selling maybe $300.00 a month to repeat customers. But the expenses of attending meetings, functions, and rallies, wiped out any profits I could have made. Not to mention gasoline, auto repairs, etc. and time you could have spent doing something else!
It's Amway's way of selling products, to sell mostly to the people who sign up for being an IBO. For the most part most people in the business don't sell retail to customers and push the products to those who get into the business instead. The retail prices for most of Amway's products are not competitive at all, so it's hard to find retail customers. They don't tell you that when they are trying to "recruit" you, naturally. You can't just open up an Amway store and hang a sign out, it's against the rules! It would be a tough sell anyway as customers would be few and far between due to the high prices for the products. If I wanted a business selling things, and can't open a store up, well.... that's not for me.
@@earlymann1954 In a candid moment, even Charlie Marsh (Amway 's first Crown distributor, admitted that the cast majority of the products flowing through his downline, were consumed by them, and not sold at retail to customers.
Thank you so much for sharing this, I am in the same boat right now and just started researching and saw your video. This is really helpful. I knew this is MLM but they kept saying it's not :D and their vetting process is so long, but Im glad it was a long process that gives me time to think about and research like this. Im at the stage where they want me to read a book mine was Compound Effect. my last call was learning that this is all about Amway but the focused more on the business side of it than the product and we did not talk about money.. that will be our next call. Just wasted my time. Too bad, the person that mentioned this business to me seems nice. So this is really just about how you can bait people. So glad for this video. Thank you
I'm thankful for this video too before I got in deep.
I naively got recruited, read the same book, got asked to listen to a few podcasts and be apart of a weird conference session with a strict dress code of business smart attire with House Music..
Everything was super vague to start with.. but when my 'mentors' said it's they are working for Amway I've been researching the brand and it's processes.. it's clear I've gotta leave.
I thought I made a friend
So you just listened to some random person on UA-cam, who hasn't even tried to build a business.
Even back in the 90's the products were pretty expensive. But you know who won the whole product game...A.M.A.Z.O.N. !
walmart too
Amway products were overpriced back in the SEVENTIES!
You dodged a bullet. Your relative is being scammed. They are spending FAR more in overhead costs which generate their upline the vast majority of their overall profit.
not to mention the amount of time they will require of you. If you drink the "koolaid", you will loose $ month after month and will have absolutely no time to do anything other than "the Business": recruiting, open sessions, showing the plan (STP), nuts and bolts meetings, product orders, listening to motivational speakers, going to regional and major functions that cost big $$$, following up with prospects, doing meetings for new distributors and some of them may be very far away! and you will still lose $!

Almost half the time I go grocery shopping somewhere such as Walmart or Target, someone comes up to me trying to recruit me into this. I’m a college student so that makes me a perfect target for these people. The conversation always goes the exact same way, it always starts with a compliment about something I’m wearing and then it goes on about their mentors and them wanting to set up meetings and all that. I almost fell for it the first time and even joined one of their zoom meetings but luckily I did my research before it was too late. I also work in retail and so that makes even more of these people come up to me. I’ve always tried to be kind and respectful but the problem has gotten really bad and I lose more of my patience every time I encounter one of these people. The Amway infestation has gotten really bad in the Phoenix, Az metro area!
I encountered the same situation last week. Went to one of their “ Business Meeting “. I had never seen such a cultish environment of Educated Smart Brainwashed people ever in my life.
I'm thankful I was given natural common sense about these things & recognized red flags early on. You seem to be blessed with the same. Excellent video.
Thank you! 🖤
Extremely vague, this guy at the grocery store tries to recruit people. I agreed to have a meeting with him at a coffee shop mainly cause I was trying to figure out what he was up to and what he was selling. still not upfront about amway just kept asking questions and being very vague about what the deal is. Finally figured out what was going on long after that meeting. Nope not for me
This happened to me this week.
They keep it a big secret for days then decide to tell you. It's so not me.
I backed out after the first session. It’s not my focus. I have better things to do. I was told it was a business development mindset group.
It’s almost as bad as this: Say you want to make $100.00 every day. So you devise this “money for nothing” scam. Ok, go up to some random person and ask, “Pssst… want to make $100.00 a day? Here’s how you do it, but first pay me $10.00. (person hands him the ten bucks)…. Choose ten people a day. Ask them if they want to make $100.00 a day. After the tenth person has given you their ten bucks, you’ll have $100.00!” Ok, Amway’s maybe not that egregious, they do actually make a great tooth paste, but it does illustrate that the way you make money is to sell the tips and secrets (plus all their “self improvement”, “time management” etc bs) of how to make money. Oh yeah their toilet paper and energy drinks are top-tier as well.
Amway was taken to Court in the UK it turned out that 99.7% of all Amway IBOS lose money.

The problem with most people (Academically Educated) is that they narrow their options to Doctors, Engineers, Lawers, or general employees. What they are not told in schools and collages is that these professions cannot get you financial freedom. You can spend money to get educated and get a degree.
But learning people skills, mentoring people, selling skills and leadership skills cannot be learned from these institutions and there is no degree for these skills. The result is your certificate.
Amway is a platform where we invite people who are fed up doing the same thing their entire life and are ready to invest a few years in changing their mindset and direction in life.
You can choose to see the big picture and work for financial freedom in spite of rejections and criticisms.
Or you can choose to continue doing the same thing and going the same direction you are in.
Albert Einstein defined "Insanity" as "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
Your next 5 years will never be the same as your last 5 years. It can be better or worse.
Amway is an option that many of us used. You may choose differently.
We are OK with that. But the question is are you OK with what you might get in the next 5 years?
I have had like three people try to pull me into this scam!
I went through the exact same startup process 3 years ago. I had debt issues with my property about a year ago and had to remove myself from the MLM because it wasn't financially sustainable for my personal circumstances. I think that the reality is that you need to be really good at selling and know how to persuade people to make any decent income within an MLM program. I just don't have the personality type to persuade people and when I was a car salesman for 5 months I always felt guilty closing a deal by pressuring people. Like everyone else I want to make a side income but I want to do it without having to sell an idea or dream to people. In summary I think very few people will find success with these MLMs but the majority will definitely not.
It doesn’t matter how good you’re at selling or convincing people. You’re always at the bottom of the pyramid, which probably already has thousands of people in the upline stream above you (remember, this book by Kiyosaki says that you need to have 500 or more to be considered a business). Why pyramid schemes are illegal is that at one point, when there are millions of people in this, there are simply not enough people left in the world that you can recruit and so you cannot make an earning at the bottom, while the top guy, who actually does nothing, lives the dream. Once you’re recruited, there is no mentoring or guidance as you’re no longer important to them. They’ll spend time on finding a new fool for their downline.
Thank you! I just spent 400 dollars before I saw this. I'm not going back to them.
Astonishing that Amway has been around for over 60 years. And the product line keeps growing.
Not to mention. Other BIG companies decided to partnered with Amway.
Not Amway partner with them.
Eg. Apple, Forever 21, Microsoft etc.
It absolutely is astonishing! BUT! When you actually learn the history and understand how wildly corrupt everything is, it definitely makes more sense. Amway has VERY deep political ties (DeVos family) and spend millions in lobbying to keep the MLM business model “legal” and virtually regulation free. Even in 2022, they don’t even have to follow the “business opportunity rule” (which seems like it was literally written for an MLM model if you read through it- it’s absolutely baffling!). The fact that franchises have extremely strict rules and regulations and MLMs don’t for example tells you everything you need to know! Money, power and greed have kept them “legal” and it all stems from Amway specifically.
@@kimr6482 When you look at it completely technically, there's nothing different from the Amway business model and any other business - you buy a product from a wholesaler, and then sell it at a profit. That's the base, underlying business model. Where you get tripped up is you get presented the opportunity as a case of "selling to yourself" (they might use different terms, like "shop at your own store," but it's essentially the same). Now, in principle, it makes sense - if you owned Walmart, would you shop at Target? However, what happens is the focus then immediately shifts from developing a product-focus business into a recruiting-focused business, where, instead of moving product, you're focusing on finding new people to join your "team" and then "shop at their own store."
The point is, it's the recruiting aspect of Amway that turns people off. Those "in" tend to become like sharks - always looking for that "next" person to recruit.
-Can- someone make a lot of money in Amway? Probably. - WILL - someone make a lot of money in Amway? Probably not.
There's a sucker born everyday.
The high level achievers in Amway made their fortunes, not from operating their Amway businesses, but by selling motivation items, such as books, CD's, and charging high prices for meetings and seminars. That's where the REAL money is made!
Crazy. You think you'll be making $4,000 a month and they clarify that you'll be spending $4,000 a month on products you want and wont be able to entirely sell.
Amway had a movie banned called welcome to Life could you please review it?
I just watched the movie. It’s on point with what I went through when I was in Amway. Very deceptive. Glad I left the company.
I went to some meetings because I was dating someone who was involved. The biggest red flag is I am an accountant and have a degree in business. I didn't love the numbers. Yet at all the meetings, they always painted detractors and lazy people with no jobs living in their parent's basement. It was hard though because many of the good principles of "working hard" and "surrounding yourself with good people" make sense and I liked. But the numbers were no good.
Oh yeah, and she broke up with me because I wouldn't join. Haha!
That’s a very interesting experience you had, thank you for sharing! That makes me sad that it ended the relationship but evidently for the best. I too was interested in the personal development side of things but not the products/selling/Amway aha
Was in this exact same organization for 13 years. Really hard to get out once you get in because they have you believing you will have a terrible life if you don't stick around. We lost roughly $100K over 13 years. Stay away from these deceptive people.

It’s MLM. You have to recruit people to make money. After 1 year you pay $132 each month in fees. Based on the information I have, you start off making about $43 a month, this jumps to about $300 a month after recruiting 6 people. And the Amway products are very expensive. I don’t know why anyone would stop shopping at Target to pay triple at Amway. Anyways, I declined.

personally it makes me quite sad that there are people who go about the Amway business in this way (the cult-vibes I mean). I joined Amway just over a year ago & it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I never went through a vetting process and my upline was transparent about everything right from the get-go. The people in my line of sponsorship are literally amazing, and it's stories like this that make me realise how fortunate I am to be in a team of Amway where the people are genuine and transparent about what they do and how they make their money. It's definitely not for everyone but if you commit to it and take advice from your upline it's so worth it, and a viable way to make stable income long-term income. Too often people forget that you have to spend money to make money, and obviously this business model won't be viable for everyone (especially if you're not already spending this type of money on a monthly basis, but if you are, the products are amazing quality if you know what you're getting).

Amway makes huge profits from selling their products to their Direct distributors, who, in turn, sell them to their downlines, and retail customers. It"a up to them, then, to turn over a profit.
The so called IBO's (direct distributors) are Amways customers hence the huge profits. The business is structured that for distributors to make any money, you put your money into their products and get as many as possible to do same. Now multiply that by several hundreds of people and there you are with 8billion in revenue.
@@GlobalGoods-ed8yj I think that 8.7 Billion figure was Amway's gross sales, not their net income!
Are they related to Network Marketing? Cause there's a group I was introduced to by some stranger who wanted to introduce me to this mentor couple, why in the world is it always a "mentor couple"?
Anyway did a search of the so called mentor and he is from an organization called Absolute Legacy. Even the name sounds questionably cultish. I'm in Australia by the way, so if anyone's heard of them let's hear about your story.
Mine is the exact same way as the person in the video presented. Only difference is, i opted out after the 2nd meeting via zoom and after i was given homework, on this very book by Kiyosaki in a pdf form. The vaguenes is very noticable and the over indulgence on the positives of network marketing and all that bunk. I just learned that Kiyosaki wrote this book without any active experience in network marketing, and the book isn't that good either.
amway products are way too expensive
Agree! Comparing similar products the value just isn’t there I’ve found
Amway works. Like any other business you could start, it takes money to make money. It’s hard to maintain the business if you don’t have a lot of money to spare, at least until you start seeing actual profit results. Like she said, they’ll tell you, “it’s money you already spend” but if you don’t spend that money already then you’re using extra money you don’t have to spare. If you take what your mentor tells you and actually apply it, things work. The people who do well have learned the business and know how to run it well, listen to them. The only problem is that your main source of money is based on people and their willingness to join your team. That’s where the real profit is. It’s harder to make profit off of sales than it is to make profit off of team growing incentive.
What you just described is a business that only truly profits from recruiting new members into the business, literally the definition of a pyramid scheme
“It’s harder to make profit off of sales than it is to make profit off of team growing incentive.”
You…just described a pyramid scheme…
@@melissaj1310 theres no products involved in Pyramid schemes
You are brainwashed. Any business model that relies on recruiting and not actually selling is a scam.
@@ryaninSartell im not brainwashed, you are lol. You clearly don’t understand what a scam is or what the word means.
It is a hard business to grow but super profitable if you build it right.
Definitely hard business to get into on a low income. I buy the product became the help my health and I love the product
it is only profitable if you make it to the Diamond Club and the $ doesn't come from selling the products, because NO ONE sells the products. The profits come from the "TOOLS BUSINESS" which is entirely illegal.

Elise, does it strike u as a pyramid scam? I use the word scam because, in the beginning someone who don't know anything about this venture could accidentally be led to believe that cash Is deposited into Thier account that they can phisically withdraw from Thier bank account..? Or because at the end of the day...someone came up with a cleaver way to market Thier company..?
Hi, I just watched your video and I am on the same boat, I just got into the failed it’s been Less than 1 year that I am in this business and a conference coming up in the next two months but I just start doubting it, if it’s actually true.
Please someone who has experience help me here thanks.
Sounds like your relative got drawn into a group that uses the Amway Business for their own ends, which is why it was taken inhouse in the UK so the business was then run by the corporation themselves.
can you share the details about the uk way
My opinion was you just dont get the big picture. Amway does offer products much better then those in local stores. So you have to create value and you dont value the products. If you dont believe in your business it already failed. You also didnt mention any of the team building which is the best way to increase your revenue. Your mindset has to understand that your building your business by helping others. If your focused just on the money then yes its not for you. Im part of a mentor group where the people are excellent, good hearted caring people. Their passionate about what they do and that type of energy is contagious. Therefore ill say like my mentor told me threes 3 types of people. Those who just get it once thye hear what its all about and what is being offered. Second, the one who has a bunch of questions. Third, the one who just thinks is a pyramid scheme not knowing all businesses technically work like one but at least with Amway I dont get paid for who i recruit or nor do i take money out of the pocket of someone underneath me. I have the best products and infrastrature. Most inportantly its the like minded people who keep you encourage and motivated because you got so many small vision people and natural born employees.
Everything you just said is wrong.
I will not elaborate why: This is because any smart enough person should be able to understand on first principle why Amway is bad. All I can say is, I don't know how old you are, but presumably you are wasting your early working life away doing something useless. It's just so sad. I guess some people are just not meant to achieve things in life
@@senorsneeze thank you! My friend just convinced me to join. I paid 400 dollars for products that I might never used
I just "launched" a few days ago.
Your buzzwords are as much of a red flag as the notion that [we] ought to distance ourselves from _anyone_ (family, friends, etc.) who doesnt share the rose-colored glasses of Amway.
You realize that just because they call you an "IBO", youre _still just an employee as well?_
Let me demonstrate with a few questions:
Do you have anyone you report to about sales and recruit prospects?
Does your "upline" earn a percentage for "sponsoring" you for sales/recruiting new IBOs?
Did you buy products from your immediate upline person? (Effectively making you a customer AND an employee).
Long and short is: I'm bouncing from Amway.
$12 for dish soap?
People have sense obviously most people build them self in the mental side and they do what they are told to do and if you ask them they will tell you yes it works. Why? Because they did it… so obviously if you do what you were told to do in business by default you will see the business working for you it a no brainer.
Doctor- take your meds and you will get better in a week.
Patient- Doc i skipped my meds 3 times in the week and I am not seeing the results of me getting better. WHY doc???
Can i buy Amway products and promote them on walmart, or buying in bulk, whats the limit?
You cannot sell amway products in wallmart, it is against their code of conduct, it's encouraged to sell directly. It isn't advised to buy in bulk because they don't want it to be a huge financial investment upfront, therefore accessible for anyone to start. I have seen some amway business owners start their own servicing business such as skin consultations, health consultations, personal training, etc where they promote and sell amway products. Seems to me like the most effective way to develop an amway retail business, i met a girl who completely replaced her job income this way. Of course to gain financial freedom and passive income, you'd need to "select" and teach others to do the same.
One of the most disgusting pathetic experiences of my life was meeting with people from Amway.
One out of one million people become millionaire's in Amway.
Bull shit artists selling a dream
Stay away from them
Let’s say they are bs artists? What’s in it for them if there’s no money incentivizing them?
I became a Multimillionaire by quitting Amway and working a JOB!
Absolutely Amway works, over 60 years in the market, in more than 100 countries, and growing. It’s not a get rich scam or quick money gratification. Takes some effort, but rewards are outstanding!! Talk to someone who is in the inside and Truly understands how it works , you’ll be glad you did.

@@chefbillardee aren’t we all ?
Carlos, I agreed what you said. Those people thought that amway business is a MLM or rich scheme is definitely wrong. They even don’t know how it works.
It was much easier for me to become a Multimillionaire by quitting Amway, and working a JOB!
Same exact process for me they said it wasn’t a pyramid scheme but it is they just state it in a fancier way
Pyramid schemes involve the person getting paid simply for "recruiting" people into the group. Ie - send $5 to the person at the top of the list and remove them; add you name to the bottom of the list, and send the list out to X number of people. (Chain letter). That's a true pyramid scheme. A legitimate MLM company does not compensate people for recruiting others. They only compensate someone with a commission on an actual product or service that has been sold.

Here is the real education. Network Marketing is not a scam, it’s just not for everyone. It’s called a Business System: Franchise & Corporate are the other two . Network Marketing is just a cheaper start up way to get in . The other two take a lot of capital to start. There is professional development in all 3 except corporate you coming up with the systems. Any business you have have to produce revenue. Business systems goals is to do this , but also look for people who want to buy in. Develop Customer & Clients and Business.. the same thing Walmart Does .. you can buy into the Walmart system if you meet there objectives. But what it is the majority of us taught to just be consumers ( when you buy from stores) that’s why many don’t understand

Im glade I saw this. I was asked to go to this thing. I just didnt see any money coming out of it but lots of money going into it out of my pocket. I wouldn't even use the products in would be selling. Im all about natural. I use apple cider on my. White vinegar for clean. Baking soda for scrubbing. Coconut oil for hair......i would never by amway products. They want 500 to start😱how about no.
Curious, so after turning down Amway, what are you currently doing to create asset income? Your generation is destined for poverty because for every one million dollars you save you will receive $50,000 a year residual income at 5% return. Do you think you will be able to live on $50,000 a year 30 years from now?
You sound like an IBO who is losing money
Thank you for sharing this
Glad you made this video. Sounds too familiar
Hello my dear, hope you understand how the network marketing distribution model actually works
Might as well just start an affiliate marketing business and promote products you actually believe in without all the pushy networking crap
I’m just shocked that people are so gullible. It’s a great business model but if they said was hard and only 1% of people make money who would sign up? I wish they had an internal gumption to improve the business model and how they treat people. Culture is broken and the products are expensive to pay out bonuses to founding diamonds…at this point it’s a very hard business to build and you’d make more making videos on UA-cam…
Good job good idea good service 👍👍👍

You should see it as a potential opportunity itd not a scam, the book that you mentioned, the education they provide is good.
Robert Kyosaki is a multimillionaire businessman, so you can learn a lot there, but this position is not for everyone. You need to be a mentor, coash, salesperson, and other things to be successful. I believe around 10% of their Ibo s make 6 figure per year
