      cesar does not train dogs(nor do the rest dog trainers) he trains humans to learn to live along with their dogs or correct their behaviour.

    Cesar is correct in that you can reinforce behavior by giving attention at the wrong times. I never let whining kids get their way and my dogs don't either. We are an over praising society to our kids and pets. Discipline can mean rewarding good behavior but it also means firmly correcting the negative. Cesar gets calls when dogs are already over the edge and beyond a treat for good behavior. He handles puppies learning, differently than older dogs who have been allowed (by their owners) to behave badly. He has explained that there is a fine line (to the observer) between dominance and abuse. He dominates dogs, he doesn't abuse them. The worst animal abuse is an uncontrolled dog; look at Fido dragging his owner for a walk, how cute.

    • @itickleyou
      @itickleyou 9 років тому +47

      The problem is that society is ignorant as cesar said and they assosiate the word dominance and discipline as abuse. I never saw cesar being abusive towards a dog with the idea to hurt the dog. People are too sensitive and dont want to learn therefore they call cesar an abusive trainer when he isnt.

    • @essji9302
      @essji9302 6 років тому +16

      Its because people try to humanize their dogs instead to giving them the respect they deserve to live and 'be' dogs! absolutely, love your dogs, but love does not mean......cuddles and food only. Its about exercise and discipline because they are 'animals' they need to be outside and run around parks etc to create true balance. Cesars dogs are calm because they experience these things on a daily basis. Think about it.........if we applied these principles on our own dogs, take them for walks 45min - 1 hour everyday? we too would benefit from this experience, not only help strengthen our bonds with our dogs but also reflect in our dress size lol

    • @TrNdke
      @TrNdke 6 років тому +9

      Exactly. I used to take mixed martial arts classes at a school that also did Keno classes for kids. When I came in to practice, the little kids were usually finishing up. They were 4 - 6 years old. When the Sensei said the word 'discipline' the kids would snap to attention and shout "discipline!" Then he'd ask, "What's discipline?" The kids would chorus, "Discipline is doing what you're supposed to without being told!"
      That teacher and those kids got it. Discipline isn't punishment. It comes from inside and it means that you can regulate yourself even if no one is watching to make sure you act right.
      Kids who don't develop self-control grow up to struggle and fail in school, at work, in relationships and in their personal lives. This has been researched and proven (Google the marshmallow test). Not teaching your kids (or pets) discipline severely limits their options and potential for happiness in life. It's neglect by abuse, as surely as not feeding them stunts their growth.
      Adults are selfish; wanting to be a "buddy" all the time so they never have to feel like the bad guy. Then they've got kids and pets who are out of control, inappropriate, and lacking the basic skills to direct their own behavior and lives so that they can have fulfilling relationships and experiences. That's just passing the buck to someone who can't even be responsible for it, instead of doing the job you signed up for.
      Millenials are a whole generation of just such kids. And look how unhappy and messed up they are.

    So when the human actually takes charge and lead, then the dog can relax, operate on trust instead of fear and insecurity? That's what I get from watching Cesar Milan handling dogs.
    I guess when you're as popular and effective as him, the haters will hate.

    • @GenerolHavoc
      @GenerolHavoc 8 років тому +5

      +Pendejo
      Yes he is a very good dog trainer , though and note I wouldn't go using any of his technique or training methods unless you have started at the basic's , nor get more than one dog to start with.
      That's the problem I see here , people with more than one dog with no training what so ever ( First dog Syndrome ) and running into problems.

    • @oliverruane
      @oliverruane 8 років тому +2

      +Pendejo Forcing a dog to relax brings him into a state of mental shutdown. I wouldn't really call that relaxing.
      I used to love Cesar and i still think what he does is better than nothing, since most of his clients do shit with their dogs. But there are other techniques WAY more powerfull and more beneficial to both species and a lot of people know that. Those people are the haters for a good reason.
      I would love to see Cesar using more modern techniques in dog training, since they can do a lot of work with some dogs.

    • @oliverruane
      @oliverruane 8 років тому

      ***** You could have found out by yourself how a mental shutdown looks like. Literally the first result if you type in "mental shutdown dog" explains why this isn't relaxing at all.
      Your dog on the other hand is probaly really relaxing because you reinforce positively which is awesome and you can really tell the difference quite easily.
      Cesar doesn't bring them into a "relaxed state of mind" and it's really obvious.
      And no he doesn't treat dogs like a mother would her puppies and that is also quite obvious.
      Lastly neither cesar, nor you, nor me are dogs so why should we behave like dogs?
      Dogs know we aren't dogs and they find it quite confusing when we act as if we were.

    • @pendejo6466
      @pendejo6466 8 років тому +23

      ***** I don't know about all of that. I just know that years upon years of him treating dogs, there are much more stories of success than of failure.
      If Cesar was a fraud or ineffective, I think he would exposed in a big way after a ten plus year run of his show. As successful as he is, he's also bound to attract haters.

    • @oliverruane
      @oliverruane 8 років тому

      Pendejo Googling really isn't hard. He has haters for good reasons. I know because i was a very avid fan once and i labelled it as haters too.
      I can't help you if you can't handle the truth, but cesar is a bully and he had a lot of very unsuccesfull cases, but i guess you won't believe me anyways. Your loss.

    This is the best principle Cesar teaches about rewarding the right behavior and ignoring the wrong one. I have no issue with his noise he makes as it is short simple and not forcing, but a reminder until the dog gets the training. It is like when you guide or lure a dog. My dog has learned the no, hey-hey and look command to distract or redirect. I save her name for more positive times or it would get over used. It is very hard to train your dog with others being so emotional and sappy and not wanting to wait until the dog is at a zero and then the dog end up jumping in their faces.

    Instinct isn't emotion, instinct is a natural, untaught reaction or behavior.
    Its in Cesar's opinion that we all have raw instincts but we lost it from being too "intellectual" meaning we reason it away and it dies down due to modern society. Which is why Cesar always says to go back to the basics. Cesar's background is farmers. Farmer's aren't animal behavior researchers they become a source of research for animal behavior after their experience of interacting w/ animals on the farm.

    You say that clients are emotional, not instinctual, however instinct IS emotion. But when you say, "we are dangerous because we are not properly educated" you are right. The problem isn't people who baby and love and emote with their pets. It's not enough behavior science education. If you knew what you were doing, if you studied animal behavior research instead of just going on your under-informed instincts, you would do less harm

    yes, I agree with you. I'm a mexican and I can testify that what you're saying is correct. I mean, I love the guy and I actually follow is tips and watch his show, but to afirm that in Mexico we look at the animals for the weather... no such thing. If anything, like and old timer used to tell me when I was a kid: "if you want to know if is going to rain, just look at the sky and smell the air, they will tell you for sure..." He never told me:" look at your dog"

    I have three dogs, they have different personalities,until you put food in the equasion. One dog moves to the end of the couch, one buries his head next to my leg, the other one just watches my every move. How is this the same? you have to feel how quiet they all are. An excited dog won't get a treat at the end of my meal. Thank You Cesar:).

    I THINK the past criticisms of Caesar was very unwarranted, I've never seen him mistreated any dog in all the episodes that I've seen on Dog Whisperer. As a matter of fact he teaches the dog owners just what he has learned from years of being with them growing up in his native Mexico Farm. If they don't follow through and practice what he has shown them during the episode and they are back to square one, with the dog having the same issues, ie: the owners being the followers rather than an assertive calm leader.
