What I like in this song is that Floor is not singing in the opera style but she changed it to her own style. Anette used to do something like this. It's perfect because it's like a new song and it makes us don't compare the vocals with former singers.
Floor's belting at the very end of this song is intense enough to turn this into a perfect NW experience for anyone.
Man, why don't you have like a million subscribers? You are literally the most knowledgeable reactor on UA-cam. You go so in depth and you touch upon everything. It's crazy how many details your ears can grasp. I've been listening to these songs for over a decade now and many of the things you mentioned, I hadn't even noticed. And then, once you draw my attention to them, I just can't unhear them. I'm like "Ohh, so that's what's happening" and suddenly everything clicks. You are really worth watching. People can actually get things out of your reactions, actual information. Unlike most reactions where you just see people plainly watching a performance and giving a few laughs here and there. We get a whole explanation from you and I love that. You are really underrated.
Btw, would you mind reacting to Evanescence - Your Star? I believe you'll find so many things interesting as there is SO much going on in the song. However, if you do, I'd suggest you do the studio version, where you can hear everything clearly. In live versions, many musical details get lost in the background due to sound mixing, loud crowds, etc.
It's not just Floor's voice that makes her special, it's her skill in using her voice as a musical instrument to support whatever the song needs. I also remember seeing a hallway Q & A where Empuu stated that he eventually realized it's not about trying to stand out and show off his skills. The most important thing is to support the song and give the song what it needs and not more than it needs. Maybe the most unselfish group of band members ever assembled. That's what makes them special.

That intro hinting at the moment of the end of the video is the profound essence of what I think Nightwish is. It doesn't matter wether you like the music or not, but to be priviledged to understand the genius that Nightwish and especially Tuomas is, is such an eternal gift. I sincerely wish every single person on the world would know him, because he deserves it. It's almost unfair how much character he has within just one human.
We're just out here playing with knives and he already learned to juggle 5 two-hander swords without as much as a hint of imperfection. I'm so jealous of my past me when he first listened to Nemo on the TV.
You know, like most folks on Reacticide I've watched a ton of reaction videos, and by this point have a fair grip on what makes a good one. You're really in a league of your own--one of those rare gems who teaches me something about my favorite band and their music every time I watch, and are just naturally genuine and charming.
As a former composer myself once upon a time, it's wonderful to watch you identifying some of the songwriting techniques in use and explain them in an accessible way. Tuomas is a creative genius and yes, a very mature songwriter--but it takes a mature ear and understanding to suss all of this out.

How I wish I can be there with you chase when the “Nightwish feelings” arrive to your eyes, I’ll be just crying with you 😊. I heard this song for the very first time 12 years ago when I was only 15 yo, and still bring me tears.
This is the song that got me into Nightwish. I don't remember how I found Wishmaster when it came out, but I am forever grateful.

This was alway my favorite Tarja song, apart from Ever Dream.

I remember listening to this for the first time with my girlfriend. When the key change happened she just said, “Yeah, she’s a soprano.” I remember falling in love with this show then.

She is my Sin is the song that got me into Nightwish 18-ish years ago and still is my favourite along with Ever Dream (shoutout to the other commenter I saw who has those two as favourites as well). I would have loved to see you check out the Tarja version of this song on the "From wishes to Eternity" show since here performance on this song in particular is something else. I also feel that this version isn't as "clean (in lack of better words) soundwise as the old one, where you can here Emppu's guitar work a lot better.
Seeing this reaction it also hit me that I would really appreciate you doing some double reactions on certain old Nightwish songs and break down how they have evolved/changed and the different compositions over time and with different singers. This one is still pretty close to the original, but for example Dead Boy's Poem has really different compositions.
Also, all the love for Jukka! He brought the ham to Nightwish and his fills, tempo switches, energy and crowd interactions is fantastic!

From what I understand you are not a vocal coach, but you have so much an ear for details in the songs. Really good job!
YES! This was one of my favorite songs from the Tarja Era, and in my opinion their compatibility was at their A-game when this was composed (though I think the problems behind the scenes were already established then). I remember when I realized they started playing it I was overjoyed and worried at the same time. I knew Floor from After Forever already, but she was gone for some time, her singing style was quite different with ReVamp and also from what I heard till then in NW.
But of course, how could it be any different: TOTALLY killed it. She didn't change or add anything, except for singing in head voice only in certain parts. While it was a beautiful and dreamy song with Tarja, Floor made it, just with singing in different tonalities, into beautiful, dreamy, powerful, energetic, touching and I was one amongst many, standing their with tears in my eyes, a big smile on my face and being floored for the very first time. Going to that festival that year, to that concert of Nightwish that night, that was one of the best decisions in my life.

Yes! Seconding on Gethsemane! Has one of my most favorite Nightwish lyrics ('Without you, the poetry within me is dead'). I still remember listening to Oceanborn for the first time: being astounded by Stargazers, followed up by Gethsemane? I was stunned.
Gethsamane for sure, the song that got me into Nightwish + I don't think anyone has video reviewed it yet..be the 1st..the intro just blows me away every time I hear it.

This is probably my favorite from the pre-Once era. I remember buying this album when it came out in 2000 and just being floored by it, or I guess Tarja’d by it ;-)

She is My Sin is the song that first introduced me to the symphonic metal phenomenon known as NIGHTWISH. My ex-wife and I kind of just found the song on the old MP3.com website and clicked the link. 5 seconds in, we were both HOOKED!!! We went down to Orlando and Downtown Disney westside a few months later, and found the first three Nightwish albums in the Virgin Records megastore they had down there in 2000 and immediately bought all 3 as soon as we found them. Tarja Turunen did an AMAZING job with this song all those years ago, but Floor Jansen just OWNS this one.
I discovered Nightwish only this year (How?They are incredible) then reactions too. Chase, you are one of the very best at doing it and your instrument knowledge makes the songs even better, great stuff. Rewind to the beginning and talk too much every time mate, fcuk em. Haha. Floor is now my favourite ever singer, female Freddie Mercury, Tuomas a genius. Why this band isn't universally known is beyond me!

I watch a lot of Nightwish reactions, and aside from the great music and learning about music, a fair amount of the draw is watching hot chicks make adorable faces. That said, when you go into your Nightwish "Foetal Defense Posture," it's is at least as cute as anything Julia or Elizabeth ever do.

You should consider watching one of their full concerts all the way through! it's an experience, you get to see dialogs and interactions that are missing in the individual videos, and transitions between the songs. it makes you love the band even more! Not exactly more for you to react to exactly, but you should try it in your down time :} awesome reaction, keep em coming!

Going to put a few suggestions out there: Slow Love Slow, live at Montreux, for a Nightwish song that is truly unique and possibly the best Anette has ever been. Master Passion Greed to complete the story you started with Poet (which reminds me - have you done Bye Bye Beautiful as part of that trio of songs yet?). And finally Gethsemane. Live from Helsinki in 1999 and from Buenos Aires on the Decades tour. Different drummer, bassist and singer plus the addition of Troy. Amazing compare & contrast opportunity. I keep suggesting it to Tank as Empuu is playing a guitar that's not purple!
