A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Premiere of the new movie adaptation of EVERYBODY'S TALKING ABOUT JAMIE!
In today's new video I'm finally letting you know what I thought of the film with my official, full review!

I enjoyed it overall. A couple of gripes, whilst it was great that they actually showed Jamie performing in drag I wish they hadn’t used a social club as it meant that the following song didn’t make much sense lyrically. Also I was sad that they didn’t give Pritti her solo ‘outburst’ at the end of the titular song. That moment always gave me goosebumps in the stage version as she’s just bursting with pride for him.
I thought it was absolutely brilliant and loved the song This Was Me. Luckily got to see it on the big screen in early September but sorta shame it’s not got a general cinema release.
Totally agree with your review. I actually got to see it on big screen almost 2 years ago as a sneak peak in Los Angeles and have been waiting forever for its release. None of us in the theater had ever heard of the London show so it was a great surprise.
Just came across it on Prime and LOVED it! I'm in a pretty rural part of the US and gay & but really don't know how I missed it. I've been telling friends about it & had about 10 friends over to watch it on my ridiculously large-screen TV. I hope a stage version comes around..Thanks for the review.
I was really pleasantly surprised by it, and This Was Me broke my heart. It was an excellent education moment for a lot of the LGBTQ youth in Britian who didnt know about what happened.
I loved this film as much as I love the stage (which is a lot) but I have to say that he's my boy didn't make me cry at all in the film, unlike the streaming tears that the stage gave me. By contrast however, I sobbed through all of this was me and it's my favourite part of the film... I love the themes and that Richard E Grant feels so strongly about that new part of his character, plus the fact that John Mccrea got to be in it!
Loved the movie, seen the stage show as well. This Was Me is a fantastic song! Btw what do you mean by ‘the covid version of the show’??
So when the show reopened in December they had edited parts of the script to reference covid throughout including the wearing of masks and nods to social distancing - I talk about it in a vlog I made when I saw the show back in December of last year 🙂
That song made me 😢.
Not song in theory i would like but the melody and lyrics are lovely.

Hey, Mickey Jo, while I agree with most of your review, especially the impact of “This Is Me” which I agree was brilliant, …I disagree about Margaret. While I though Sarah Lancashire was really good I thought Josie Walker was a much stronger singer and I missed her other number so much in the film. I think “My Boy” was diluted by cutting away to Jamie at the pitch… I am not convinced that having Margaret not sing until late in the film gave the moment any more import… all that is IMHO… I do enjoy your commentaries and that you for all your content… from Indianapolis, Indiana USA
Very much agree. Sarah is a great actress, but not as powerful a voice as in the show.
SPOT ON REVIEW! Love the stage musical, but the film "connected the dots". Brilliant film. WE NEED THIS ON BROADWAY!
Hmmm, agree with some of what you've said. But I don't think Sarah Lancashire can belt out that song as well as say the soundtrack to the musical. She's a great actress, but didn't quite hit the mark for me with the singing.
My biggest disappointment was not putting in the song Ugly in this ugly world! It's so powerful, and as a mother myself, it literally yanks my heartstrings when I hear it. Some songs create a visceral emotional reaction, that's one of them. Big mistake not including it. Left me very disappointed. Otherwise I enjoyed the film, but for the above reasons, still prefer the show.
Living in Canada I never got to see the stage version, but oh my word the film was just so incredible 😍😍
OMG Just finished Diana the Musical on Netflix. I almost turned it of multiple times but at the end gave it a thumbs up. I would love to see you review it.
You mentioned it was a feel good film like Pride, which i totally agree with. Its a very British story, something like The Full Monty. Jamie is a much better film than Dear Evan Hanson , but then I have issues with the stage version of that anyway... If you like feelgood films, you should check out a little known Ryan Gosling film called 'Lars and The Real Girl' It such a sweet film about kindness and acceptance and i've cried every time i've seen it. It's played perfectly. Unfortunately it doesn't have any songs. Yet. Who knows what will be adapted next.
Great review as always. Please review ‘Diana the musical’ I watched it on Netflix last night and would be interested to get your take on it, for the comedy value that you so perfectly bring to the table when something is just awful x

Thanks again MickeyJo for a great video. I agree that ETAJ was a really enjoyable film. I think I prefer it to the show too. Loved the scene with Richard E Grant flashback to the 80s. Heartbreaking. And yes Sarah Lancashire can do no wrong in my opinion. Great job. Please do a Bedknobs and Broomsticks video if you get a chance. Thank you.

Loved it! Keep Werk Girl by Todrick Hall on the soundtrack on constant repeat!
Although I much preferred the proshot of the stage show to the film, I agreed with most of the changes. Missed the Loco Chanel number, but that wouldn't have worked on film, and as you say, the new one is brilliant. However, the flashbacks to the father's rejection made me feel like Jamie must be slightly mentally deficient that he could believe for a second that his father had sent either a BD card or flowers -
