    Binti is the lovely female that saved a little boy who fell into the enclosure a couple decades ago. She is incredible❤

    We visited the Gorillas just last week and the info presented here gives the opportunity to get to know them better. They are fascinating. We are also very excited about the outdoor habitat and look forward to seeing it progress. Thanks for such an informative and interesting video!

    I’m glad that you guys were able to make Jontu a member of your gorilla family and who knows in the future Jontu might mate with one of the females and you might could have new baby gorillas!

    Please don’t feed him/them processed foods! This is NOT customary to their diet, it’s unhealthy and unnecessary for them. In the wild they do just fine without any processed foods (dried pasta), if you are 💯 for conservation of the species then please don’t put foods in their diet that are harmful to them.❤

      We never give any of our animals anything that isn't completely safe for them. All of the animals here at Brookfield Zoo are given a prescribed diet by an animal dietician (we've done several videos on Dr. Jennifer Watts, so be sure to look them up!) The gorillas get a diet of mainly veggies, which you can see them happily munching on in this video. Anything like popcorn, cereal, pasta, etc. are all considered treats and only given occasionally and in small quantities. It's great enrichment for them to get these items. This is no different from humans eating a piece of cake or ice cream cone every once in a while.

    Is it true African wildlife is going extinct?

    • @BrookfieldZooChicago
      @BrookfieldZooChicago  11 місяців тому

      A lot of wildlife around the world is being threatened with extinction due to human activity, such as poaching, habitat destruction, and pollution. Brookfield Zoo supports work around the world to not only educate people about the value of these animals, but to help mitigate human-animal interactions. For instance, supporting organizations that provide alternative food sources and income sources to local populations so that they don't have to rely on endangered animals for food and money. We also educate people on the fact that things like rhino horns and pangolin scales have no medicinal properties. We also support legislation to help curb pollution in our air and waterways. Your support helps us to continue this important work!
