Nice. First ran that starting about 1973 as a scrawny high schooler. Raft. K-1, C-1, tandem canoe. Guided rafts one summer on weekends for $25 bucks a day. Great memories. That river spawned some amazing paddlers.
Oh I loved your video so much- it took me back to my “glory days” - when I was younger, stronger- ran that section in a tandem canoe, way way back when...before it was “illegal”. You visually captured the force of Nature- thank you- next week I will take my kids rafting there...what a spectacular place and river.
My group of 6 ran the 5 falls back in about 2009. It was a remarkable experience, even in a guided raft. This river is no joke. Our boat hit the wrong angle just before "crack-in-the-rock" and we all went swimming. I got launched airborne from the right front over to the left of the raft and went in head first. The photo from the bank just showed my legs from the knees down sticking up out of the water. I was submerged for about 30 seconds before I popped up. Others in my group were less fortunate and stayed under longer. The guides on the bank hit us with ropes and pulled all of us out before we hit "crack", almost certainly saving some lives. I learned a lot that day, but mostly that you never feel more alive that when you face the possibility of death. I would never try to talk anyone out of doing this because it is awesome, but I would also never talk anyone into it that had the good sense not to chance it.
every time I hear Pink Floyd I think of the Chattooga. It's what my dad played in the truck every time we went up to the Chattooga when I was a kid. I cut my teeth on that river and still make on average 10 runs there a year. if there's no water, I just run from the Bull to Woodall.
