    Story behind the dedication:
We had an inspiring experience recently when we were asked by a woman whose husband was serving in the military if she could surprise her 5 very young children on stage at one of our concerts. Her husband had come home much earlier than expected and just in time for Christmas. It was an incredibly touching reunion. The audience stood and applauded for several minutes, stopping intermittently only to wipe their eyes. It is a memory we will never forget. This moment had a powerful effect on us -- it helped us to realize how much military families sacrifice to preserve the freedom we take for granted each day. We dedicate this song to these heroic families.
    Bring Him Home
    Original music by Claude-Michel Schönberg
Arrangement produced by Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson & Al van der Beek
Arrangement written by Jon Schmidt & Steven Sharp Nelson
Piano recorded by Chuck Myers & Jake Bowen at Big Idea Studio
Cello recorded by Al van der Beek at TPG Studios
    Piano: Jon Schmidt
    Cellos: Steven Sharp Nelson
Mixed & mastered by Al van der Beek at TPG Studios
    Words to Bring Him Home
    God on high
    Hear my prayer
    In my need
    You have always been there
    He is young
    He's afraid
    Let him rest
    Heaven blessed.
    Bring him home
    Bring him home
    Bring him home.
He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
    The summers die
    One by one
    How soon they fly
    On and on
    And I am old
    And will be gone.
    Bring him peace
    Bring him joy
    He is young
    He is only a boy
    You can take
    You can give
    Let him be
    Let him live
If I die, let me die
    Let him live
    Bring him home
    Bring him home
    Bring him home.
words by Herbert Kretzmer & Alain Boublil

Every time I hear this beautiful, beautiful song, it touches the deepest part of my soul; it brings tears streaming down my face as I am overcome by emotion for what God is doing in my life, while I now battle Stage IV breast cancer, which was diagnosed only a few months ago with a prognosis not very encouraging. I do not know the day nor the hour, but God's knows when He will bring me to His heavenly home. He promised to never leave me or forsake me, and He never has. I trust in Him completely knowing it is well with my soul as God brings me under His wings to protect and He will never let go of me. This beautiful arrangement will most certainly be part of my Celebration of Life service as I begin choosing other inspirational songs and hymns, so others may hear, see, believe and want to receive His grace in their lives.

As a former soldier and having been to Afghanistan, it means so much that these two gentlemen would dedicate this to our troops in harm's way. Everything they do is classy!

My little girl just made her stage debut in Les Miserables at the age of 10. About one week into rehearsals, she made the observation that "Bring Him Home" was a lot like how she said her prayers when her 'birth dad' was overseas. I wasn't quite sure how to respond, since I worry about how much she knows about her bio dad's job. I played this for her, and made sure that she saw the dedications. Now she asks me to play it about once a week. It appeals to her on both an artistic and a personal level, and allowed her to connect parts of the play she has grown to adore with her own personal life. Growing from here, she has connected other parts of the play with the way her bio dad responds to things in her life, giving her a way to understand him. Thank you, Piano Guys - you have opened so many new worlds for my little girl through the gorgeous music that you create.

I must add one further note - my husband and I speak ASL (American Sign Language) and this piece interprets so beautifully with the hands - it is just a lovely piece to sign and you play with such empathy and compassion - I cannot get all the way through the piece without crying - but, that's OK - tears are a universal language also, especially happy tears. Thank you again.

I think that this is my favorite of all of my favorites from The Piano Guys. It is the one song that I will continually hit the replay button for. They play this beautiful song with such heart that it is soothing and yet I tear up whenever I listen to it. I feel melancholy and calm all at the same time. I especially enjoy it as we approach the end of winter and I long to see green again. This setting satisfies my hunger for spring for a time. It also makes me wish that I lived closer to my family so I could hug all of my loved ones.

Our wayward children... Bring them home.
    Bring Him Home
    Hugh Jackman
    God on high
    Hear my prayer
    In my need
    You have always been there
    He is young
    He's afraid
    Let him rest
    Heaven blessed.
    Bring him home
    Bring him home
    Bring him home.
He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
    The summers die
    One by one
    How soon they fly
    On and on
    And I am old
    And will be gone.
    Bring him peace
    Bring him joy
    He is young
    He is only a boy
    You can take

"Bring Him Home" is my favorite song from "The Miserables." It was so powerful. The performance here is also powerful. And what a wonderful tribute to our men and women in service. My brother did not come home but died on the battlefield in Vietnam in 1966. He never knew that he had earned the Silver Star a few days before his death. My thoughts about our soldiers is always 'Bring them home.' {And don't send them in the first place without a real purpose.)

"God on High...." is how I always remember this song. I have loved it from the very first time I heard it sung by the original actor on a PBS Masters showing of the 10th anniversary of the play many many years ago. It makes me cry and the very music verberates though my very being into my soul and lingers there for days.
