Those rubber lines can get you every time.
£109 for a freaking quarter inch rubber hose? Whatever the service folks at JLR are smoking I want some.
I think they have a dart board with prices on! (starting at £100 naturally)
Thanks Mike, I've never checked mine .I will do now
Please do!
Thanks for posting this, I Need to check mine when I get back home, my landy started to have a low rpm idle on the school run at every red light, I had to blip the throttle to keep the revs up, it would sort it self out then idle like normal.. then this morning it wouldn’t start well at all.. loads of black grey smoke spitting oil residue on to my wall.. it’s always had a black smokey start up but this time it kept trying to stall, then when I reved it up loads of grey black smoke would pouring out and it wouldn’t rev high at all and it bogs down and cuts out.
Hopefully it’s the hose it’s the easiest thing to check 😅
Couple of months ago I had a sudden power loss but also it could not rev. Replacing the diesel filter sorted it.
Good to know other things to look out for too.
Thanks for the tip sir. Always appreciated
No problem 👍
Had one in years ago. Wastegate arm fault. Fixed that. Checked all. Still down on power from what i would have expcted. Customer admitted as he worked in airport, he was using JetA1 !
Good info there, I have 2 turbo gauges, one in the turbo to FIP line and one at the inlet manifold, soon shows me if there is an issue with pressure being lost. Cheers
Sounds great!
All the best for 2024
Thanks
Thank you!
So glad I removed the turbo on my 200 when I fitted it to my S3.....none of those extra complications on my 200DI.
Still bags of power and great economy as a basic DI version.
Does the pump diaphragm also lift up and decrees fuelling when the turbo is lagging? ie if you removed the turbo for some strange reason, should the fuel pump still be connected to the intake manifold?
Heat shield the new house. It'll protect it from the heat and show chaffing more easily.
Also your throttlecable can unwind. Mine needs adjusting after couple days or so
A dob of silicone can stop it unwinding
@@BritannicaRestorations nice ill give it a go
Had one that had melted, the head must have gotten bloody hot at onetime
Hi Mike. Great video and I will check mine when it stops bloody raining. I have a problem with my 300tdi. It suddenly lost power and will not rev over 3000 rpm. It also hunts when at idle. The revs rise and fall. Someone said it might be a stuck boost pin, so I checked, and it was moving freely. I rotated the boost pin about a quarter turn, and it has an effect on the performance for now, At least it is drivable now, but I still want to sort out the underlying problem. I thought it might be sucking air in the fuel lines, so I ran it from a can of fuel in the engine bay, and it didn't make any difference. I am now thinking it is either the injector pump, or the injectors, but I thought I would ask you before I start getting too deep into it.
Check the pipe inc. turbo hoses
Did you put the fuel directly to the pump?
Doubt it will be injectors - Could be the pump - I have seen a few with broken springs on the HP side
As always enjoy your chat 😊 have you got any tips for fitting a xyz switch to my 300tdi auto 🤔
I think I took one apart and cleaned it - years ago but here is someone's video
ua-cam.com/video/WuVJi6wTJVE/v-deo.html
But now I can find Discovery V8's here with them on
@BritannicaRestorations you are awesome thank you 😊 ❤️
I’m thinking I got exactly this problem yesterday. Noticed a noise that I first thought sounded like wind coming from the dashboard at around 1900rpm in any gear, and a lack of acceleration. Thought clutch but it seems to pull away ok, no engine race. Will check today!
Hope you find the problem!
@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks! Solved it today😄 . Jubilee clip on bottom intercooler hose had slipped off - explains lack of boost and 'wind noise'! It was the first thing I checked but obviously I missed this bottom one. I need to find better alternative to crappy quality jubilee clips from the auto parts store. They overtighten and slip so easily! During my investigation I checked the boost pipe as per this video, the short waste gate pipe and tested the waste gate actuation. I learn something every time and your videos help greatly! Cheers!
Try Mikalor Clamps. You have to be accurate with size as they won’t cover the same range as a jubilee. Only thing to remember is if using stainless ones always grease the treads.
Would this be a top-end power loss or throughout the rev range Mike? My def90 200 seems to be getting a bit breathless at high revs but pulls well low down. It's the original turbo running a full width Fearn intercooler and std air filter - used to be a bit quick but isn't happy towing heavier stuff now, regular changing down on hills, and tops out about 75mph unladen. Used to be good for an indicated 90 mph+ (If you had the nerve!)
Could be anything - Injectors need a clean?
@@BritannicaRestorations Good question, I'm planning a bit of trial and error testing of everything but saw this video and wondered how such a vacuum loss from the turbo - pump tube would show up...
It is a pressure loss = no pressure = no boost to the injector pump, not much acceleration
From what I can recall, the turbo boost comes in at 2000 RPM, so that is why the pipe is lined to the top of the injector pump to adjust the fuel to compensate for the extra pressure generated - with more air in the intake, you can burn a bit more fuel, and get more power
Question - what is the part number of the first pipe? Or which material and diameter shall I use to replace it?

Thanks
Could you just splice in a piece of fuel line with a couple clamps?
Sure as long as it is repaired properly
My mates 300tdi lacked power, turned out someone didn't take the little bag containing 2 washers out of the new air filter, it took a year for the metal one to wriggle out of the bag, down the inlet pipe and say hello to the turbo blades..... Not one blade was left, no wonder it had no power. How he laughed.. Not. 😂
lol!
how bloody much ! sheesh :D
We can get 1/4 or 6 mm Continental hose rated at 50 Psi
25 feet roll for £25!
I don't have that problem on my Thor V8. 😅
But you will have many others! Lol!

Followed a month later by "Breaking - Disco with 5 inch lift, super intercooler, dislocation blah blah blah. Body is too rusty. No MOT....
The number of Disco owners(Kids?) who ask on that Face booking how to up the power when it is obvious they haven't done ANY kind of maintenance ............
