Join Claire Wickes as she guides us through the serene grounds of the Arvo Pärt Centre.
Located 40 minutes outside Tallinn, Estonia, in the middle of a pine forest, the Arvo Pärt Centre is equal parts cultural space, concert venue, creative environment, a tribute to, and an archive for the life’s work of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. The building itself and the forest it sits in work together to create an atmosphere of peace, calm, and reflection-an atmosphere that directly inspired the sounds of Salu.

I was here when it had just opened. I was alone and I met Arvo. I will never forget it.
Woah. What was he like?
@@henrycadman5564 It is difficult to put into words. I have been told that a marker of holy people is “attention“. That is to say, when they are with you they are with nobody else. Their attention is entirely on you. It felt like that. I had intended only to shake his hand and thank him for all that he had done for me and then to run off and savour the moment, but instead he asked me questions about my life and my daily activities and how I was pursuing my interests. He would consider each of my answers in silence before asking a very thoughtful question in response. I suppose I should not have expected him to be any different! A wonderful man.

This was lovely. Thanks, Claire.
Amazing place. And I’m happy to see an orthodox chapel and a lot of orthodox literature there, it says a lot about a spiritual life of Arvo. Very cool. This place is like an architectural imagination of an artist’s soul.
That's such an apt way of putting it. And it truly does feel like a spiritual place there, whether you're religious or not - I think the connection with the landscape feeds into that too. Have you ever been?
@@clairewritesmusic Unfortunately not) But I hope to be there sometimes) Thank you for this interesting guide of this beautiful place!) 😊
@@cherrysound anytime! 😁
@@clairewritesmusic yeah 😂
I really love the extra videos you're doing on Salu, OT. The library is stunning and, together with Tallinn, they are so inspiring to write with. Creative juices are in full flow! :)
Ah I've not had a chance yet to write with Tallinn & Salu in combination! I'll definitely give that a go 🙌
Wonderful! After seeing the guided tout by Mickey Pärt, I knew I needed more... and here it is. Amazing and inspirational spaces, architecture and surroundings. I definitely must go there some time.
Ah absolutely go there if you get a chance! And I've not been in other seasons, but I have to say being there in winter in the snow was magical. Thanks for watching! 😁🙏
Wow, very cool place and beautiful video!
Thanks so much for watching! It's easy to make a beautiful video in a location like that 😅😁
Fascinating architecture. Thanks for showing us around!!
My pleasure! You've gotta go to experience it for yourself, it's magical. I love the fact that they've taken rhythmic elements from Pärt's music and incorporated that - really creative architecture !
@@clairewritesmusic it's very inspirational. Some kind of creative magic in the air of this place just by watching the video alone.
@@BluemountScore absolutely. Amazing what can happen when you're in a place that's designed to let you slow down & invite in creative thoughts !
a wonderful achievement. hope to be there one day. also kudos for Salu!! grtz from amsterdam and happy holidays
Ah if you ever have the opportunity to go you've got to take it! Just an unbelievable place. Happy holidays to you too! ❄️🌲
I would give anything to have a visit there
It's a truly special place
Top of my list to visit. Thanks for the tour! P.S. love the music in the chapel shot.
This is a beautiful video exploration of the Arvo Pärt Centre. I am late to the viewing of this, but I am so glad I found this today. This is also very inspirational for me in terms of spaces/architecture and the wonderful ways they relate to and inform the composing of music. Thank you, Orchestral Tools!
Such an extraordinary video. You exactly evoke Part's music by the precise way you measure the homage that Enrique Sobejano has offered through their architecture of sound, time, place.
Claire did a fantastic job here, as always.
Amazing architecture!!!
It's next level right?! I love those courtyards, from the top it looks like someone's taken a bite out of the building. Should have said in the tour, the architects were Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos!
@@clairewritesmusic So much thought was put into it. 🙌
Great, literal walkthrough! Now I wonder what Lucent would've sounded like there! (It already sounds great, though.)
Wow - that would have been cool!
What a great video! So inspiring, just like Salu :)
Yeah it's brilliant for sparking ideas! What are your Salu highlights so far? 🤔
Has any composer ever had their own center during their lifetime?
Arvo is great but....there are hundreds who are way better and more interesting
The beauty of subjectivity in music - we're massive Arvo fans here at OT.
and what's the point of saying this? I genuinely wonder
