Quite honestly, the more I see of you playing the more I think you might be close to the greatest modern pianist on the planet. That was a stunning video.
GOD, today I woke up with the random feeling "I wonder if Jools Holland has a personal UA-cam channel" so I searched and here we are, top entertainment thank you I'm subbing!!
How wonderful that you are learning now. I hit 71 this year, ‘23 and it is still something I would love to do, so maybe... 😉 If anyone could inspire me it’s Jools!
Jools is something of an institution/national treasure in the UK. He hosts THE greatest music show 'Later with Jools Holland' which has been running for over 30 years and he also tours with his own big band. He started off in the band 'Squeeze' in the 70s and had a few TV shows in the 80s - here he is delighting Fats Domino when Fats discovers that he can play! ua-cam.com/video/oSyTqg0GO14/v-deo.html
Nah Jools Your far from expert , YOUR A GENIUS! OUR GENIUS! OF OUR GENERATIONS AND ERA! You are so kind for giving US these selfless Gifts! Thank You Kind Person! ;-)
Cheers Jools your a legend I watched one of your videos and you said your never to old to learn I now own a stand up piano that I love and am learning my first boogie woogie tune I am 60 but thanks to you I'm really about 20 keep up the good work looking forward to seeing you and the band live soon THANK YOU!!
I still remember Jools, that amazing South Bank show you did about Boogie Woogie many years ago. I was hooked and ever since then I keep on trying!!! it was such a briiliant program you made.
Brilliant! Thank you!! I endured piano lessons, became "okay" but TRUTHFULLY wished I would've been allowed to explore "modern" music. How does one try again to play?
Phenomenal talent and ability. A master of the piano clearly born out of a deep loving for the instrument. Thank you so much for sharing this here. An absolute joy.
Thank you for this complete piece of knowledge, performance and entertainment. Actually this video should have millions of views but the temporal line of musical culture is too fragmented nowadays and many cannot appreciate everything. Once more, thank you.
That was one of the best 35 minutes I've spent in front of a screen. I am truly inspired to practice more, it's been 20 years since I played and I always loved it. Thank you Jools.
Incredible. my family are from Greenwich and Charlton. the music of ve day reminds me of stories of my grandparents doing the same with the piano in the street
I always remember your demo of rock piano in the Rock School show in the 1980’s. So wonderful that I rediscover and get to enjoy more of you so many years later during these times.
Jools thank you for share your incredible knowledge i know the history and my mum grandmothers history same it is invaluable Thank you for sharing the keys to the rythym of the vibratory rythym of life The musical notes ignite in esch person the life force of creation Thank you mr music The keys that you unlock the soul the mystery of emotion Wonderful This tide is reignite the world into the feelings love strenght The xartied humanity thru some of the most devadtation ever Thank you Sir You do it so well Your madter class is exactly that a master of the keys to life ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This stopped me in my tracks. It grabbed me and shook me up. I am slightly renewed for having watched it. I should also say I never comment on videos, not even friends’ weddings. I feel just a little better placed to go bang the piano I have been neglecting because I can’t play it. Now I see; Jools Holland is a national *ucking treasure.
Thank you for taking the time and putting the effort to this Jools! This is like being taught to box by Ali! To be able to hear all your knowledge, skill and beautiful music is a very special treat.
Way beyond inspirational!! Just mind boggling.....l immediately sat down and grooved to that left hand minor, major chop and knew immediately what “joy” really feels like. Thank you so much for getting me back on track. BTW, I’m 73 and playing every day!!
All the joy of Harpo Marx with very Joolsey bits where there'd otherwise be silence. Since the invention of the piano, this is the best thing ever. Thanks Jools
Pure genius! My son is learning piano and loves it. He’s only 6 years old but has natural rhythm. His piano teacher thinks he’s a natural, because he picks things up so quickly and when she tests him on the tempo or beat in a bar, he knows every time. Your example of teaching in this UA-cam video (but also the “Bumble Boogie “ that you played in one of your “...later” shows,), has really affected him. But what I personally love about your stile of playing, is that, no matter what your playing, or who your playing alongside, you always enjoy every second of it. When something looks that effortless and joyful, only one phrase captures it. Pure genius!
Really inspiring, thanq Jools! My first introduction to boogie woogie piano was in 1978, hearing our music teacher play 12 bar blues because the class was being noisy - we all became quiet when we heard this!
That was outstanding! In just half an hour, Jools explains so much of what I have failed to grasp about the different styles of piano he plays and which I've heard over the years. Wow. Incredibly powerful, and really inspiring, too! I want to get playing now myself - thank you, Jools!
A cultural and musical gift. Thank you so much Jools! Sharing with my daughter who plays keyboard and I got a lot from you as a guitar player as well. Much love bro
This video set me straight on some things in my musical journey. I wouldn't have waited 35 years to RE-attack the guitar had I been able to play what I loved when I started. I keep seeing people start an instrument (like piano) and playing classical music because....it's what they think they have to do BEFORE they can play what they love. What utter crap. Learn to love. Play what you love. Love what you play. Thanks Jools.
I met Gilson at his exhibition in Chelmsford Fine Art in the town. I'm an artist and pleasure drummer and love your music. G. has a great drumming style and his art work is fantastic . Would love to play with the band one day. Cheer, and send my best wishes G.
Jools, I have always loved you. I leaned classical as a kid and have been trying to break out of the straitjacket ever since. You have given me a lesson in everything else here. Hours and hours of learning. You are genius.
Bloody brilliant, thanks Jools. As a musician always striving for improvement, it was affirming to hear you speak about technique/feel, and also about developing your own style. I've loved your music for years, and this video has inspired me to continue developing my style with feel and technique and to not get hung up trying to be like others!
We watched this last night to compensate a little for not watching you , the Rhytm and Blues Orchestra and of course not forgetting the Boogie Woogie Queen live at Scaboroug Spa. We even bought a bag of mints to make the experience authentic. ♫♪♫ Enjoy yourselves whilst your'e still in the pink ♫♪
Thank you so much! I've always found you inspiring, but this is incredibly motivational. I've just acquired an 'old banger' and she's beautiful. My piano journey has just begun, around six weeks ago, and I've been drilling scales and sight-reading for a few hours per day. I think it's time to get creative.
You have inspired me many times over Mr. Holland.. Your variants of the complicated left hand is given me frustration but it is worth it when I learn it.. I'm getting there.. Thanks, Michael.
Fantastic loved this it’s over 30 years since I played am sat looking at my piano an old wreck that was given to me ,rolled it up two scaffolding batting’s onto the back of my dads transit flat bed pickup and I played it on the back while he drove home .Am going to have another go probably not with this as beyond tun8ng Thanks brilliant video
Extraordinary! Thanks so much Jools, great and inspiring stuff. Btw - and I’m sure you won’t mind me sharing, I met you once back stage in Glasgow just before Christmas c. 2010. You were asking about everyone’s plans and your sound engineer was mentioned that he was probably going to be on his own on Christmas Day, without hesitation you said he should come and spend it with you and your family. 👍
This is the most informative and inspirational music video I have ever seen. I always thought I was someone who loved to play the piano but who played nothing worthwhile. For the very reasons you explained, I couldn't stand my music lessons when I was a kid because they didn't inspire me. I took Sax lessons as an adult and still got nowhere because it was just as before, uninspiring. I was unlucky with my teachers. So I just messed about and played piano and sax using a system of techniques that grew on me. You have re-assured me that although I still have much to learn, I'm on a valid path and perhaps I'll play something in front of other people. Well one day, when I've mastered some more techniques...
I think we need a new TV show, Jools. Get ya outta that studio with a music travel doc series.
This guy's feel is so rock solid that if he was about to miss a beat the universe would warp time to meet him where he lands.
I love this guy and never tire of listening to him. One of the greatest musicians ever created.
Terrific, a great trip down the history of the piano, I learned a lot, and I’m learning to play at 70.
How wonderful that you are learning now. I hit 71 this year, ‘23 and it is still something I would love to do, so maybe... 😉 If anyone could inspire me it’s Jools!
Stumbled into this great musician when I viewed Rod Stewart’s video. I loved his music and smile, was taken totally by this man’s talent.

It’s the roaring twenties! Screaming 😱 is ok. When you have the blues ...just call out! And if the thing has a ring , ring out!
At certain times in your wee intro you reminded me of Harpo Max when he would play and give a little wide-eyed smile xxxx
This is simply fabulous!
An inspirational tour de force - thank you SO MUCH!
Brilliant, thanks Jools, great to hear all the different styles and how they originated,
Very inspiring. Thank you so much. I especially loved hearing about Grandma's piano.
Just brilliant, so interesting and an awesome talent...thanks Jools
Very informative, inspiring and helpful. Thank you Jools.
Thank you, Jools. Love this. Hope it gets way more likes.
