I bought the new 6,000 mAh battery from Nitecore, it provides a good 15% runtime increase (5+ hrs on High) and a more constant output. The battery is a tad expensive, but now I have a backup battery. I use the MH12 Pro as a complement to the P20iX, they make a marvellous EDC combo. The P20iX also received a battery upgrade. It is now 5,300 mAh instead of 5,000 mAh, and the upgrade isn't much about runtime, but a slightly higher and more sustained brightness, as the new battery is a 20 Amp capability. Since the new battery is of the "i" type with four poles, it is even more expensive than the plain 21700, but in my opinion is well worth the upgrade. Thank you for the review. Greetings, Anthony
I like the light. Yes it does get hot, but how often does one really need turbo for long periods of time? For spot checks at distance sure. Wish they would make an NTH holster to fit it. NTH10 that fits the mh12 v2 will not fit the Pro. Selling point on nite core was the beacon, sos feature. Been couple times in unfamiliar deep woods in dark that got turned around while tracking game. Having a beacon feature allows one still at camp to give a person a beacon to follow back. In hilly terrain echos can lead ya in wrong directions. A beacon doesn’t bounce around like audible signals.
Absolutely loved this video! Incredibly thorough and exactly what I wanted to know and hear. I only wanted it for the 300lu setting personally with the ability for 1000+…. But wasn’t sure how good the 300 was really going to be. I carry a TLR-1HL on a Glock and I know what 600lu gets me. That walk around with the 300 is amazing information to have. Thank you!
Thanks for review, mine arrived a week ago. I was disappointed in the fact it doesn't have a forward spring, to prevent battery from impacting driver. It is the next version of MH12SE that has fore and aft springs.
If Nitecore switches to an e-switch that MH12Pro would even be shorter, and I'll probably consider getting one because it's a good EDC but ever since I got a hold of an e-switch flashlight I kinda don't want to go back to the old ones. Review wise I really like your review I got the information I needed clear thank you.
18:41 how do you get that beam in the air it looks like an light saber is it because of Pollution in the air because where I live i never Get that beam and i live in the middele of nowhere..
I have this one, and It is Awesome! It DOES Get Very Hot in Turbo, But, With The Beam Profile, Turbo is Rarely Needed! One Thought, In a Self Defense Scenario, That Turbo Mode Could Blind an Attacker long enough with a Short Bust to Allow Escape! You can have it go to Turbo with One Click of The Button!
A bit like a tuners pushing a VW Golf MK2 to 500HP on the front wheels. Huge amounts of power but not able to getting it down. The Turbo mode only works for a couple of seconds before thermal throttling... this is why the hottest temps were right after switch on. It just delivers the 3300lm for some seconds.
@Ian.. I think they all throttle down after less than 30 sec. So with normal ambient temps, several minutes before stepping down is not possible. The video here showed it, too with the thermal video. The highest temps were ~30 after start. Then it got cooler again => Thermal throttling! Maybe you don't see the reduction in light at the beginning? And then only later when a second throttling step has to be done?
@Ian..nice! About how many minutes of turbo out of your specimen? I’m looking to get a light to replace my fenix pd35 v3. It does 31,000 candela on turbo for about 2:50. But the overall beam quality seems better with this new UHI led vs the SFT40 led emitter in my light that can only push 1,700 lumens
Lol it's not overheating, LEDs create heat, it's completely normal, go touch an LED bulb in your light fixture or lamp see if it doesn't burn the s**t out of your hand 😂
I have a light that is similar in performance to yours. The Fenix PD35 V3 at 35,000 candela. About the same as yours. The turbo on the nitecore MH12 Pro is way brighter…. But you only get 30 seconds of it before step down. However the beam profile altogether on this light looks better and brighter in all modes compared to the SFT40 led in both our lights
Well, we want an extremely bright flashlight that's as compact as possible; that's the problem. Lumens War is the most ridiculous thing I ever knew. A flashlight is a compact portable handheld device; why would someone need to shine the moon? I think every flashlight manufacturer needs to consider rational output instead of ridiculous, extra-hot, crazy lumens; just make better heat dissipation with a 2000 lumen max output. Nitecore is great; they're just pushing the limit, as we always wonder: is it possible?
I agree with your statement 110% The high lumen/candela is freakin out of hand!! They are installing these absurd specs to sell a ton of torches and all practical use is out the freakin window!! I digress.....
I use the turbo mode of this light to occasionally stun/scare off curious coyotes while walking the dog at night. They really don't like this amount of light pointed right at them. Otherwise, it's in low for dog walking. So I like that this light exists as an option. Absent the coyotes, though, yes, this amount of light is complete overkill for a compact unit for most people.
I work in a big warehouse and need a tight beam bright light. We generally communicate by flashing someone with a flashlight to get their attention and mine is just too big of a flood. What’s the best rechargeable flashlight with a tight bright beam for under 150$
Thank you for this informative and well executed review. For its size the MH12 pro is certainly impressive, and if I didn't already had the MH-12 SE I might would buy it. However, the two things that Nitecore definitely has to fix is the ugly green tint in the lower modes. It's 2023 for crying out loud, on one can tell me, that it's not possible to make a high rower LED without that puking color tint. The second they need to fix are the steps. A jump from 1050 to 3300 lumens just don't make sense. They either have to make the gaps between the steps bigger or add another (6th.) step or - that would be my favorite - simply bring back the awesome piston drive in an updated version.
This light is amazing but personally i think they should have left the 3000 lumens for the mh25 pro and for the mh12 pro 1800-2200 lumens should have been the max it would have made it way more useful
There was also the MH12S which is now discontinued and the MH12SE which I think is still in production...I just checked, the MH12v2 is still in production, but the far superior MH12S is discontinued. the MH12SE is still in production too.
Future story. Mans hand blown off by overheated lithium battery. This is why all but one of my lights are stream light. No turbo modes but very reliable and no dangerous heat levels. Don’t get me wrong I have one nitecore mh12s that’s a few years old. But it’s barely used and only for brief periods on high or lower. These nitecore, olight , Fenix etc are cool. But I just don’t trust a lithium battery exposed to that level of heat. Maybe it’s just me but that’s my opinion and what keeps me buying different streamlights . 1000-2000 lumen brightness without the excessive heat
Nobody is going to be walking around using this thing in turbo, it would have been helpful to see the heat profile in mid and high instead of just turbo. Just my 2c
So wait a moment, in order to work this light you have to use 2 buttons at 2 different locations using 2 different combinations of button pressings? Who the hell comes up with this nonsense? And in an emergency if the person versed in this flashlight education 101 needs to explain it to someone how does he explain it to the uneducated. Don't you think the first commandment of flashlights is simplicity?
I have a Olight CW 5700K-6700K Perun 2 mini as my general light for moon mode for that. This night core would be awesome for pocket carry in my left pocket
As a mechanic I use a P10ix, it has the perfect close in flooded pattern for inspection work.
The huge amount of power isn't particularly useful in close work, too. I have a P20i and I always have to tune it down for under the hood work.
Or just get a dedicated mini head head lamp. Olight Perun 2 mini which also doubles as a mini pocket carry light.

Thanks for the video. OK, good effort by Nitecore but my I still prefer overall my Olight M2R Warrior Pro !

I wonder which is better the fenix tk20 r ue or the nite core

Nitecore is very good quality flashlights , they just need to figure out how to not overheat as much .

V2 needs to come soon with some added heat syncing to reduce the temp as it will eventually cause premature functioning failures.
