Mythwind is a persistent-world, asymmetrical and cooperative boardgame where you become a pioneer in a whimsical fantasy world.
Players take a unique role of a pioneer trying to establish a new community. Each role a player can choose in Mythwind is completely unique - one may be rooted in action-selection, the other in deck-building or worker placement - roles are 100% asymmetrical. The game relies on the passage of time and the progression of the player's abilities and possessions to create an engaging and persistent world.
Mythwind is a true open-ended game. Setup in under five minutes, and whenever you want to finish your gameplay session, pack it up without losing any of your progression. The game will live and grow as you spend more time progressing in your role and building the town.

Co-designer of the game here. Thanks for the well thought out words. I'm glad you recognized the uniqueness of our goals here. We're comfortable that it won't be everyone's cup of tea, while we have found the feedback we've received so far very valuable. Trying to distill this down to the best version of what it can be still requires some fine-tuning, but reviews like this are valuable to help find that sweet spot.

I would love to see an expansion that could fill the gap that was identified in Jessy's review. We don't need a bad guy, but the missing puzzle elements are a pretty huge point. Thank you!

@@ericmatteau9954 That's absolutely possible. While I don't want to lean to heavily on expansions as an "answer" to concerns, the model of the town with unique roles makes it very easy to add unique modules through expansions that can change/alter the game experience for players who want something different (or more.)

Thanks for such an honest review! It’s a beautiful game and I love the minis and character trays etc. BUT, I can’t imagine having fun playing this. So very very sad. I can’t even imagine playing it with my grandkids. No conflict. No puzzles. Character building and town building are all a plus, but if there is no overall story development it sounds like a SIMS game with nothing interesting enough to replay. If this is wrong, I’ll look for a used copy someday.

Well, shoot. I might have to dive in to this one. This looks like the kind of game you can pull out on a stormy winter day, a glass of whiskey and just enjoy some time living in a world where it's warm, peaceful, and seemingly low stakes.

Wow, developing your skills and accumulating resources. Fascinating. Never seen that before. Converting resources to other resources to buy skills is also an innovative mechanism. So is constructing buildings that offer extra actions. I can literally think of dozens of other more involving, immersing, repayable, and cheaper games. Why would anyone think this one is interesting?

it doesn't sound like there's a lot of cooperation. it sounds like everyones own character engine is just to make money. I'd rather have like the crafter make tools the others can use as well, and maybe the farmer can hand out his produce to let the others regain energy (as an example).

Best review ever. It does have a Sims feel for me which I played for a day and then got bored with the pointlessness. The concept of persistent play interests me, but to what end? Just doing stuff for the sake of doing stuff isn't enough.

I'm not sure I understand "open-ended". If there's no set end of the game, it will be the moment when you're bored with the game or when progression slows down. If you're playing for the story, you will eventually run out of story cards right?
Extra thought: when do you stop playing harvest moon? When you have all the money, tools, and buildings you could ever want. When the challenge is lost. As much as I love harvest moon, it fizzles out.
    Conflicted about this game.

If this was a puzzle, it would be interesting. If this followed the trope of fantasy battles in dungeons, there would be tension. If there was an unknown map to explore, there would be discovery. As it stands, Mythwind has none of these and that presents it with a unique challenge: how to incentivize continued play. And in that it appears to fail.
Don't get me wrong. Of what limited info I've seen so far, it appears to be a novel concept: an eternal farming experience. But it's not 'fresh' because for it to be that, it needs excitement and something that grows. And none of this seems to be part of that experience. There are no goals, no threats, no drama or tension. It's a repetitive exercise in 'doing chores'. And if it was in some bizarre thematic setting that would be one thing, but it's 'just' a regular valley. If there was a neat engine behind the chores, that would be a true puzzle but there is none. It's just a mindful process of rinse-and-repeat, experience a paragraph of narrative, and do it all over again. No surprises, no tension, no drama....and thus, no life.

I have seen so much advertising for this one. I even signed up for notifications because they had me curious. I think it look gorgeous and sounds fun, the end is what concerns me. They don't hide it in the campaign which is nice. I am a fan of sanbox settings where I just do what I please and work toward mini goals but I'm curious how well it'll work as a board game. production quality is amazing, though I personally am not sure if there is enough game for the price.

Hoping they are able to make some great improvements for the game as I am itching to love the game but after the TTS Demo the game looks beautiful though I am trying to understand how it can wrap into a tightly knit package of joy.

I'm kinda torn on this one. It's a fun concept and it's a good looking game. Also, it looks like something I could intermittently pull out and play with my wife who enjoys but is not super into board games, but of the character mechanics I've seen so far, I'm not sure there's enough meat there to hold my attention for a prolonged period, especially given the very hefty price tag.

The art is gorgeous, but I sceptic that Mythwind will pull me in, keep me engaged and earn its place when faced with the competition of my current game collection and incoming pledged KS games. For example, I have pledged for 7th Citadel which seems to cater to a similar experience space. Thanks, for an enlightening review.

I'm already backing Bantam West for a sandbox game. Mythwind sounds like a great peaceful exploration adventure I'd love to back as well but I feel like the puzzles have to be super engaging for it to really work and stand out.
