Also, Sean Connery was a little snotty for a guy who got paid $17 million dollars for three months work!
25:30
"The last time I checked, you are not a doctor Sean Connery? Also last time I checked you were alive so..."
Absolutely floored my ass. Nice.
“THIS summer Big Sean is whipping out the biggest COC of all! COC: Cast of Characters, we’ve got big COC energy!”
By the time this movie came out, Big Sean had been acting for 50 years. This movie will always be known as the film that broke him.
Yet he was in Highlander 2 😄
Who cares, the guy was a dick.
It’s insane how the *only* adaptation of one of Alan Moore’s works that Moore himself not only doesn’t hate, but actually *likes* is an episode from a “kids” series (Justice League TAS).
Anyways, great vid as always!
I do have to say that the Nautilus and the car were beautiful pieces of design. Impractical as all hell, but fantastic looking.
I agree!
The design of the nautilus in the comic was 1000 times better
@@VuotoPneumaNN Yeah, I agree. But I'm also old enough to remember the Disney version and the ride.
I was in sync with Rae for this one. Sean Connery was in his 70s in this movie?? He must be SO old now! Wait... Sean Connerys DEAD?
Jenny-Rae was on fire, today! 😂😂
in the comic they found the invisible man hiding in a reform school for troubled girls were he was sexually assulting them the chances of that being in the movie was zero
He's also raped to death by Mr Hyde. The reveal that Hyde was always able to see him was pretty great. Hyde eating dinner as the blood slowly appears on him and him revealing the invisible man must have finally died of his injuries was good too.
Producers: “Oh, this plot sounds too much like feasible terrorism”
Also producers: put out this, a prime act of domestic terrorism in and of itself
Touché
This is one of those movies I refuse to re-watch because I loved it so much as a thirteen year old and I don't want in tainted by my own fully developed brain.
Wise!
The episode was great as always, but I completely lost it on the closing "executives" segment. You guys are comedic geniuses!
Glad to hear that stuff can be entertaining to those outside of who we are talking about.
Ironically you guys put more thought in to how to make Tom Sawyer work than anyone making this film! Lol
I wish they would have added Becky Sharp!
I literally checked the page yesterday to make sure I hadn’t missed a new episode dropping! Always glad to have you all back:-)
This was one of the first films I remember being excited about pre-release. I loved the comic, it’s Alan Moores best, easy home run I thought. Great setting, great concept, great story.
It’s an absolute clusterf*ck of a film.
Clint said, "What is America's pass time?" My brain instantly thought....sex. The next line uttered were moms and apple pie. To which my brain responded....see, I was right.
i needed this to escape a crazy work day. I thought you would’ve mentioned though that the show penny dreadful (which is amazing but only 3 seasons) kinda stole this concept but did it way better. If they did attempt it even though I think he’s a one trick pony would be perfect for james gunn. It just seems like something he would do. excellent video as always
We watched Penny Dreadful. I think it starts out like LXG, but goes in a completely different melodramatic direction.
Stephen Norrington directed the hell out of this movie.
It's a very good film! (because a film is primarily a picture, the meaning is complimentary). It has wonderful cinematography, each shot is excellently composed and full of style. And the flamboyance of the costumes and production design, was just to emphasize the fairy-taleness, because this film's plot is a fairy tale. It is a misunderstood cinematography masterpiece. People expected it to be something else, which it was not, so they misunderstood it.
firstly cinema was mute, and it was about pictures, not words (although I wouldn't say all the dialogue in this movie is good, some is unnecessary, here are too many filler dialog scenes), but the point is, if you watch this film mute, and on the 0.75 speed, you will be able to concentrate on its picture, and appreciate the cinematography better. You'll see all shots in it are excellent, and some are genious.
@@VadiaRotorThat can work… for a silent film. This was not that.
@@langleymneely it can work with any film, any film can be watched mute (because film as an artform has its roots in silent cinema, and relies on visual storytelling: show, don't tell). And TV series can be listened without looking at the picture (because the roots of TV shows come from radio), so good visuals in them are secondary, they rely on story being told in dialogue.
Loved it, keep up the good work!
I actually liked this movie lol.
Same
A lot of people did. So?
Okay. Do you want a cookie?
@@cwtrain I don't share
@@cwtrain what crawled up your ass and died?
Finally! I was hoping you would cover LXG.
I want to commission a supercut of the sh*tshow crew laughing
I feel like Connery was already getting "behind the times" by not taking Gandalf/Dumbledore/Matrix roles and that it was kinda inevitable that he'd be in a movie like LXG. His lack of vision (and perhaps, age) ended his career sadly.
Peta Wilson was in a very hard-core series called " LA Femme Nikita". It is streaming now.
It's based on a film of the same name that is even more badass
that opening snippet from sean is gold lol
Can't listen to this since I'm going to bed now. That being said, Clint.
I remember a show/movie where every child was singing memories in a talent show.
I remember a scene at the end of Diary of a Wimpy Kid where a girl sings memories
I think that was Jersey girl
36:58 On Her Majesty's Secret Cervix...
Also, even though the copyright filing is odd, I don’t believe for a second Moore would choose to do a studio’s bidding, after LXG he’s done a bunch of other public domain stuff so it’s clearly an interest of his.
One of the biggest What-Ifs I ask myself is “What would have happened if Connery accepted the role of Gandalf?!” The jokes of a 007 Wizard would pretty much write themselves along with Gandalf telling Frodo “You the man now dawg!!”
I can’t imagine him delivering half the gravitas of “so do all who live to see such times” speech.
@@ItWasAShtShow I recently learned from a different podcast that Connery was offered the role of HANNIBAL LECTER in Silence of the Lambs but he turned it down. Can you even IMAGINE?
"Hello Clureesh"
Clint
Also...CLINT
For me the song memory, is from BIG with Tom Hanks where he sings it into the phone for his mother
i guess we need a whole pod for 'Clints Closet'
Thr cats commercial you need to find is the one for the traveling tour and the one for the actual broadway production not the vhs. I remember cuz it was always "come see it at the fox theatre". I promise memories is in that
My expectations for movies are low I guess. If it entertains me I like it. I actually like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
2:42 He had no idea how right he would be proven 2 decades later.
This is my favourite bad movie! lol I used to watch it all the time and the directors commentary was what got me interested in film and planted the seed for me to go to uni and study film all these years later
Was there something in particular about the commentary that stuck out?
@@ItWasAShtShowI have the DVD so I may listen to it tonight.
It hurts my heart that man's not hot is not quoted
Have you considered doing an episode about another film featuring Sean Connery, Highlander II: The Quickening? It had a very problematic production, and the theatrical version of the film does not seem to be available for watching.
All later sequels have basically ignored it.
So Big Sean didnt understand The Matrix or LOTR, but Zardoz and Highlander were no problem?
Or even better, Highlander 2.
31:55 This was Darrell Hammond’s Sean Connery from SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy.
Potent Potables for 200
@@ItWasAShtShowI’ll take Anal Bum Covers for $200, Alex!
35:19 What’s not to like about Stuart Townsend?
Lestat will always be Dorian Grey to me.
So 3 things.
1. When I was younger when my mom would take me to Boscovs(a local clothes store) I would go around talking to the mannequins in a Sean Connery voice. I would ask them: "Do you like working for BOSHCOVS?"
2. One time I was talking about Clints closet and I called it Clits clonset. Now I can't say it right. Do'h
3. The lawsuit against LXG was a real COCK up. As always, love the podcast! 💖💖💖💖💖💖
We’re gonna start calling his closet that.
I only remember Fu Manchu from the Peter Sellers’ movie.
Christopher Lee played the character in a few films.
FINALLY…the wait is over!
I can't stand the idea that this movie is so hard to enjoy.
I love this genre more than any other.
It should have been the most amazing cinematic adventure that resembled the 5th Element.
But nope.
We got Hudson Hawk instead.
I am fine with this movie. I own it on DVD. I also own a lot of Alan Moore books. He isn’t happy with any movie version of any of his work. At least, Kevin gets money. All of this is ok with me. I actually like the addition of Dorian Grey (was an extra in the comics) and Tom Sawyer…though I do like your view of him tricking people into doing his work.
LET'S FUCKING GO!
Re: the discussion on pasttimes at the end- Mom is a pasttime for Dad.
Could the Nautilus make it to the Titanic?
Before I forget: #ReleaseEmpiresOfTheDeep
Now, I'll be honest, LXG is one of my favourite films due to nostalgia. I watched it when I was too young to know better and, even now, as an adult, even though my adult brain understands that it's not a good adaptation/film, I can't help but like it. Like, my DC headcanon goes: LXG, then the Justice Society is formed, then the Justice League,
I’ll give you the first half. But that second half is bonkers balls.
@@ItWasAShtShow I mean, the comics were published by an imprint of DC so, in my head, it tracks. Plus, you guys said it yourself, Nemo makes the first Batmobile 😂
I think Sean was gonna retire soon regardless of film, this just made it quicker. So I’d say not worth it if the alternative is getting a better final Connery film or two.
Today is a good day
Do abraham lincoln vampire hunter next
As far as I know, that wasn’t a Sh*t Show.
So the moral of this episode is wait 20 years to start work on something and let others do the heavy lifting. Because making shit is hard…
You're thinking of the book of eli
I know this movie was a bomb and didn't do very well in ratings, BUT I can't lie i do like and enjoy this movie, if i see it on tv I'll always watch it, I wouldn't go out of my way to find it and watch it, but I would watch and enjoy it
I do too. I don’t get all the dogging of it. I have seen so much worse…even in Alan Moore terms.
@@wildmarjoramdieselpunk6396 exactly! I've seen far far worse, and watching this growing up i always enjoyed it and i remember for a long time wanting a sequel 😀 obviously as an adult now I know this film won't get a sequel but i think it should be rebooted and tried again as the concept is there it just needs booting up on the script at parts 🤗
I Love Parody movies but i was wondering how in the hell do studios talk these actors into doing these ??
obviously Money but still, who goes to Charlie Sheen with the “Hot Shots” script and lays it in front of him?
Do they just jump right in and explain it or defend it ?
I hesrd Sarsgaard, and I think scotchguard.
1:05:38 Sir. SIR! Mukbangs are FUN to watch and listen to, sir…. Lol.
I love your theme song jingle.
As we all know 😂😅
Supposedly this is getting a reboot on Hulu. Kind of pointless now after so many years of urban fantasy saturating tv on top of penny dreadful doing a riff on the idea. Carnival Row bombed so i doubt this will ever get made.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was made. Channels need content. Carnival Row looks lovely but its plot is all over the place.
I was so furious you went on vacation depriving us of more Shit Shows . . . But then you said you were playing Zelda and forgave y'all.
Thank you for your patience and understanding through this hard time.
The movie sucks, the director did a bad job, but Connery sucks? Connery was right! Directing is about interacting with the actors more than the VFX even is the might be important. Side note Alan Moore took the money for the film.
Moore takes the money then disowns projects. :)
The phrase is “I COULDN’T care less” I wouldn’t normally be so pedantic but Rae called Stuart Townsend British and while I don’t know or care for him, I am Irish and therefore obligated to tell Ian he’s wrong.
It would probably be so much better if you stopped saying LXG. :)
Just to correct you on something; you said that the movie wasn't a box office bomb, but it was.
Production budget = $78 million
Worldwide box-office = $179 million
You ought to realise that the production budget only accounts for the money that the studio spend on pre-production, filming and post-production. It does not include the money spent on distribution and marketing (which would have been around a further $80 million). Also, 100% of the box office takings do not go to the studio. Cinemas also take their cut of the box-office receipts.
The general rule of thumb is that a movie needs to make between x2.5 and x3 its production budget in order to breakeven.
Someone tell that Bimbo in the room, Alex Trebek is also dead. RIP 😢
Hey incel, wrong podcast. Go spew your misogyny elsewhere.
