Another great podcast! The three of you are so funny and I love learning about the drama and struggle behind these movies. And just throwing this out there that when I was a kid I had it in my head that the reason behind the bar scene was that there had been someone else there that resisted and was killed by the gremlins. So my headcannon as a child was that she was serving them to stay on their good side so she wouldn't die. I even started remembering the movie with a murder scene at the bar and was surprised when I watched the movie as an adult and it wasn't there. I think I may have watched too many R movies as a child.
In '84 I was 12 years old no I didn't see the film then but saw on VHS tape at one of my cousin's house, back then I was a nerd but mostly into transformers toys and the tv show
In 2014 I went to a convention that had a commentary of Gremlins with Zach Galligan and something I always remember from it was how at multiple points in the production he almost died. The first one was when they enter the store at the end of the movie and Zach Knocks down an electric sign. He was told beforehand not to do that because he could easily be electrocuted but without thinking he did it anyway. The other time was with the gremlin holding the chainsaw. He said that for the effect of the bat being cut up they had to leave the blade on the chainsaw so if it had accidentally slipped off or cut through to fast he would’ve been severely cut.
The weakest point in the script is the dog being in the bank with Billy. It makes no sense. The mother is a housewife, so why not leave the dog at home? The bank managers never notice a dog under the counter? And I don’t care how trained your dog is, there is not one on this planet who would sit quietly for eight fucking hours while surrounded by people.
Re: animatronics and puppets - I wonder if they asked the Jim Henson folks to handle it. After all, their work on Hoggle/Ludo/goblins etc in 'Labyrinth' was outstanding, so I'm sure they'd have done an incredible on the gremlins/Gizmo
46:39 Okay, _'Poor Chris Walas, he only worked on a couple more films'_ Sure...but one of them was The Fly for which he won an Oscar...wasn't that worth mentioning?
Well, the 60 seconds of slow-mo nudity in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" had something to do with it too. I still can't hear the Cars' "Moving in Stereo" without picturing her peeling off that bikini top...
I've always thought of the after midnight rule like a local law. Just because something is legal elsewhere doesn't mean you can break the law where you currently are.
These movies were huge influences on me as a kid. This episode was great that shit with the furby 🤣 and "ricky baker" thats an obscure reference right there
Brilliant episode. Especially the ending, when you address that masterpiece that is Gremlins 2. (BTW, Gremlins 3 must NOT happen.) Did you show your girlfriend The Exorcist and Candyman ? Because talking about gaps... :D
I gotta say, though - the novelization of this movie was *amazing,* no joke. Did you know that the closest thing to a swear-word in the Mogwai language is "Stinky Ice Cream"?
On your Poltergeist podcast you said that the idea for Gremlins came from the small Green Creatures attacking, with the leader being called Spike and one creature being a buddy to the humans from Spielberg's planned follow-up to Close Encounters, But here you said that Gremlins was Chris Columbus' Un-Commissioned Original Script. Which was it?
This was funny AF (it rained this weekend, so listened to about a dozen of your podcasts - this one was freakin' hilarious).
Love the idea of you just sitting inside staring out the window while it rains, but listening to us and wishing you could go out and play.

Clint eagerly awaiting the Twilight Zone Movie episode tells me he is woefully unaware of what happened while it was being filmed
Or he knows and wants details
I want a Zach Galligan's Head Can Crusher now.
Or bottle opener!
29:50 I love Rae’s chortle/guffaw 🤣
Thank you for appropriately categorizing it as a chortle! 😂
@@raereynolds1 Love it. “huh HUH, huehuehue” Jenirae, probably.

Gremlins 1 and 2 both great movies
I’m astounded at how much mileage you got out of something as simple as the lead actor not closing his mouth 😂
I didn't know I needed a Muppets vs. Gremlins movie until today.
It writes itself, I tell you!

Eww. Then he would have caught some in his always open mouth!

Only just discovered this but really enjoyed the listen! Great work!
Glad you found us!
Yes Phoebe Kate's was a sex symbol she did that famous red swimsuit scene in fast times at ridgmont high where she takes off her top 2 years earlier.

"Today's the day I'll touch the Sun." 🤣
Phoebe Cates was considered a sex symbol because she had been in a TV mini-series called "Lace". It's really not worth watching.

On board with Gremlins 3, but it would HAVE to still be majority Practical Effects though, that would be a deal breaker for me.
Of course. That’s why it should be a Muppets-Gremlins crossover.
This might be the best video-clip intro yet, just endless examples of open mouth
Did your jaw just drop?

You’re welcome! Haha
You do an hour and half podcast about gremlins and don't mention Corey Feldman even once. For shame
Brilliant episode. Especially the ending, when you address that masterpiece that is Gremlins 2.

Nice ☺️👍👍

yep. zach almost (and mostly) always had his mouth wideee open

Both. Two ideas combined.
I’m almost out of new episodes to watch
Grimmlins circus de sole
This shit hilarious
I love this podcast.
12:59 min (about phoebe cates) „she’s cute, not sexy“
Excuse me, what? That’s like saying: Chris hemsworth is funny but not handsome.
I prefer 2. Its just great.
Saw the film back in the day and hated it because it gave me horrible dreams
