Do you expect them to talk a repeat guest down? Do you know how broadcasting works? They do it for most guests, Mulgrew, Fletcher, Halliday etc.
But on McGeady, just under 300 games for Celtic, Spartak Moscow and Everton as well as 93 international caps suggests that he was maybe most than just a championship level player.

But because he played in the championship in his 30s after several bad injuries that was clearly his peak. I'm sure that you have more football knowledge than O'Neill, Trapattoni and Emery as well, who all played him every chance they got.
You clearly don't rate him, or think he is overrated. But his career suggests that he was better than a championship level player.

Not to mention that the champions league (for two sides) is also a higher level. International football is up for debate, but even removing them I'd still be right. As I said, he moved to the championship in his 30s after several serious injuries, before those he played at a higher level. He isn't the first player to do that and won't be the last. The majority of his career was spent at Celtic, Spartak Moscow and Everton (although he wasn't a great success there). so by very definition he wasn't a championship level player. You might not agree with that, but that's fact.
But I do agree with your last point, he's talked up because he has a relationship with the hosts. Same as the likes of Steven Fletcher and Charlie Mulgrew. But that's part of how media works, most of it is personal or financial relationships where people are given positive or negative press based on those things.

Unless you come from a family with heritage other than Scottish you can’t understand where he’s coming from. The historic bias in all areas of Scottish society towards people of Irish heritage is that far gone it doesn’t even register on the Scottish psyche. Aiden felt closer to his Irish roots than his Scottish upbringing was chosen for Ireland from school boys onwards why should he feel compelled to change to Scotland because they eventually see his talent.
