- Jon Otsemobor 'Semi' Talks about his time coming through the ranks at Liverpool, being shot in a Liverpool club, missing out on a trip to Istanbul and his struggles to come to terms with life after football.
When I was a kid I was Jon's neighbour whilst he was at Norwich. I knocked on his door once and asked if he could sign my shirt. Instead he took it to training and got the whole squad to sign it. I still have it. Cheers Jon lad
That's wicked
I guess im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Jaden Zev instablaster ;)
@Quentin Quinn I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Quentin Quinn it worked and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account!
one of the best podcasts which actually let the guests speak and not interrupt, it's great to hear.
That's so true! They are excellent hosts who get the best out of their guests. Love this podcast!
People who watch these and say Ive never heard of them. Must not of played champ manager back in the day.
@@TokyoJoe703 not with a name like sharkie pal. Cringing for you.
sharkie12354 your ma knows him
Out getting a life? But now your watching 2 1/2 hours of a bloke you’ve never heard of talking about his career? That worked out well for you. 👍
You lads know how to pick them, got some of the maddest guests going.
Keep it up!
I still remember when I was kids, I always played Jon in Liverpool on Playstation One. At that time Jon wasn't in the Liverpool squad yet. Then I read a local newspaper and there was a new name "jon otsemobor". I immediately made a new player for Liverpool named Otsemobor.
Greetings from Indonesia Jon!
Love these podcasts. Great mix of banter and serious issues
The final quarter of this episode was next-level on what was already quality. Our jobs of course are important yet we are more than that.
Brilliant episode boys . Jon was a great choice. His experiences of problems retiring early / leaving game should be used to help others in same boat. Well done PFA for providing the relevant support for Jon.
What an discussion! So down to earth and extremely open at the end. All the best Semi.
Amazing watch. Fantastic insight into the career of a footballer and what a great lad Jon is. Well done to the PFA for giving the support to ex pros
Great episode. Rickie Lambert would be a good one to get on. EFL legend
One of the best episodes I’ve seen
Never heard him interviewed before...lovely guy
Jon looked quality at Hull, even at such a young age. Shame it didn’t work out at Liverpool. Another great guest lads.
This is one of the best yet. Absolutely brilliant craic. Jon comes across as a real decent guy, and very funny. The panel are brilliant too!
Marc Bircham is different class.
Good player in his day. Came across really well, hope retirement is good to him now hes got himself sorted. All the best Jon lad & good episode lads, keep it up.
What an interesting and honest insight in to a footballers mindset great programme .well done Jon.
Had everything this one lads! 👍 good to see him open up about coming to terms with not being a footballer anymore
Love these podcasts. Top drawer lads
Danny Cadamarteri may be worth getting on? Don't bother with Nile Ranger he's just like Leon Knight but even worse lol
Leon Knight was my least favorite undr the cosh, I couldn't stomach watching the second one.
Just saw today on insta ranger has resorted to breeding staffies which does not surprise me. Waste of spearm he is
leon knight was my fav
Love John Parkin's shudder at 45:01 when Phil Brown's mentioned.
Great episode. Sem seems like a class bloke
Brilliant again, I imagine retiring from football a bit like leaving the army you must feel lost like wtf I've got all this time what am I supposed to do
Its telling that he laughs and jokes about being shot but is full of trauma about retirement. Its good that he has gotten help and is making progress.
why is it telling
H Hb probably in terms of how tough retirement was for him when he laughs off getting shot?
@@hhb6022 In terms of how hard it seems to hit footballers when retirement comes around. From my position of ignorance I'd expect being shot to be the more traumatic experience. So it is telling in that it shows me how difficult it is to stop doing what has defined the first 30-35 years of your life.
@@ironbru24 well said mate
Gerald Houllier in his accent asking "How's yer arse" lol. This lad is sound as a pound, great interview.
tbh that would have been a normal night out for stevie g.
Quality lads another good podcast ! Love it lads keep it up !
I feel so bad that I forgot all about this guy, you guys keep nailing this :-)
"Not heard of him...?"
He's the Scouse reserve, you took on loan for Tranmere Rovers, in Championship Manager 03/04.
he'd become a !st team reg if you played him enough
Saw him play for Liverpool a couple times he looked promising, was wondering what happened to him.
Semi will forever be my favourite Norwich player. Absolute legend. Still got his shirt when we got relegated down to league 1 Charlton away.
He’s a lovely fella. Really nice. His laugh his brilliant. I think nobody messed with him because he is huge. But very timid. Cheers boys
Jon was an excellent player just never got that break at liverpool
I worked in the club at the time, it was called the Wonderbar! All the staff had to stay behind for questioning and we had to search for the other lads finger!
Just cam across the podcast channel and boy this blows every single one out of the water. The like of attwood living off his life of crime and repetive guests.
Great podcast
Great interview lads👍🏼
At first I thought he was another billy big boy gangster. Turns out what a decent lad. Great listen.
Hopitall'' would be your first port of call, Parky cracks my up even when stating the obvious :D
Boss podcast that lads....Good luck to the lad...
Remember this young lad when I was growing up... Always thought he was steady where ever he went up an down the leagues.
Never heard the story's of being fucking shot
Great episode
A great episode 👌🏼
Great interview. The interview reminds me how difficult it is to have a football career. Unless you are clearly excellent on the pitch, you are subject to the agenda of the manager. And I’m sure more often than not football talent isn’t always top of the list. I think of some players at a lower level who were let go due to a manager trying to demonstrate his power, who end up lost to the game
Need to know we’re to get that jacket jon
Love these podcasts Guys but a bit concerned whether Brownie has visited China recently .
Likeable guy👍🏼 shame the way it went at Liverpool better than half the shite Rafa signed at right back (Josemi & Kronkamp)
Sorry mate, but that's bullshit. Just because those guys didn't cover themselves in glory at Liverpool, doesn't mean some league 1 and 2 journeyman was better than them!
Kromkamp only ever played top league football, and had caps for Holland! Over 10 caps, I think...
@@LKeet6 I'm a huge fan of Rafa but Jon was still very young & definitely had potential to be better than Josemi & Kromkamp. Most games he started for us he did well & never played poorly in any of them. That's more that can be said for Kromkamp & Josemi. I can't remember either of them playing two good game in a row.
@@isaz597 kromkamp was a Holland international, josemi played top flight football all his career.
Otsemobor played league one and two football all his career.
It really is as simple as that.
@@LKeet6 Otsemobor was a kid from the youth team who deserved more time. Clyne played top flight football & was an England regular so by your logic prior to getting thrown in at the deep end at Old Trafford Trent was not going to be better than Clyne? 😉
Is it that simple really! 🥴
Just to add Josemi had 3 seasons at Malaga before arriving at Anfield. A team who at the time relied on the youth team products & very cheap signings. Not exactly a world beater & his short stay proved that. Kromkamp had 17 games in total at LFC & was never capped again by The Netherlands once he signed for us. Who went on to fail at Villareal before being used about 17 games per season at psv for 5 years. Neither was the quality of a LFC 1st teamer. I saw all three for LFC & Otsemobor was easily better than both of them even though he was a novice.
Might I add Championship football is more competitive than most eredivisie games outside the top 3 teams in Holland.
@@isaz597 I'm not saying kromkamp or josemi were good enough for Liverpool, I'm saying they were both better than otsemobor. Their careers, even after Liverpool, prove that. Otsemobor didn't play much in the championship. Clyne was clearly much better too.
If you don't agree, fair enough, but I find it surprising people would try to suggest a guy who mostly played league 1 and 2 football were better than these guys.
Great interview.
Good guest
Nobody usually gets shot at a christening haha! What a guest!
footy manager legend this man
Great interview. Sounds like a top bloke
Great as per normal boys...this Browny with an early covid cough??
Hindsight probably says that Glenn Roeder was likely dealing with other issues at the time.
He died a few weeks later aswell mate he had a 18 year battle with a brain tumor, mental that isn't it
We need to see some 'keepers on from the 90s!!!!!!!!
Neville southall would be perfect
Mark Crossley is a great one ti listen to
Really boiled me comments on Rotherham tbh. Big club ego right there. If he was good enough a champ team would have been snooping around well before that summer. Players like him don't deserve the help of small clubs, I bet he didn't take a lower wage for playing reserves football and having a crap attitude.
Could you interview Barry Horne?
Brilliant interview. The gun story is a reality check! Funny story but in all reality he was lucky it was just his arse that got shot
Liverpool is a tough place to navigate.
Seems a really articulate, grounded individual with regrets and hang ups. I prefer these to the so called "laugh ups" that the after dinner sort (though they are light relief at these times) come up with that can seem a little contrived and scripted.
top guy
Top lad! 😁👍🏻
I dont know how the fuck this came up on my yt new john from when he first moved to the estatelived opposite me nans had great times as kids RIP Nelson
Quality lad
Let’s fuckin ave it
Get El Hadji Diouf on please !!
Great podcast but the one in the green needs to pipe down a bit only so many jokes about being shot you can make
parky is great banter, he is one of the main reasons the podcast works
Normally funny but that was terrible banter
Top player while at lfc
No1 in Liverpool talks like this lad btw!!!!! He's gramby!!! He's like London Africa blend
What's gramby?
We need more background on this
Parkin comes across as the type of player youd hate at your club . Lazy , cant be arsed attitude, take the money and run , sorry no running , definitely no running
Big table lads
Lucky Lad 👍 All the best in the Future 💪 Back on Form Lads (A Good Guest) 👌 That port Vale fella? Who put 50pence in the DICKHEAD 😂
I wouldn't want to go toe to toe with big Reda Johnson!
Got shot in wunderbar was rough as fuck when he got shot
Great lad. Great listen. Much prefer these to lads like Windass spouting utter horseshit anecdotes.
Champ manager bargain buy!
The chewing allover the mike throughout this drives me insane! haha
Glenn Roeder had a brain tumour for 20 years, maybe clubs and players ( and podcasters ) and fans, should check about how that can affect behaviour and so on?
Brown got covid in this video
Mad thing is roeder died a few weeks later
According to this paper (not saying it's true) he turned down a contract extension - www.crewechronicle.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/loan-star-stays-5652717
www.planetfootball.com/in-depth/jon-otsemobor-i-was-unfairly-tarnished-at-liverpool-for-getting-shot/
This article he speaks about Rafa not offering him a new contract & crying to him
Up front on the right 😂😂😂😂😂
Had to close this pod off, as all I can hear is coughing!
Brownie more like dreaming fighting with Dion Dublin in his sleep 1:33 and he still lost
terry tuna Terry fucking Tuna
fella in the white t deffo has covid la
Table bottom left just needs a nudge……gap is annoying
I didn't notice til I saw this comment, now I can't unsee it
Another great episode
But please please please
Ban the guests from fucking chewing gum
Sounds awful......
🙉🙉🙉🙉
"she did"
Savage
So this is were the corona virus 🦠 started !!!
Go to a game next
Le Tallec was actually just a loan signing by Sunderland. They never bought him at all 🤔
Alexito we didn’t say they bought him.
So basically it was a right pain in the arse.
The guy coffin sounds like he's got covid lol
Coffin😂
Sounds like a prima-donna at Rotherham to be honest
will somebody get brownie a bottle of water please? FFS man!
Upside down head is back to his useless best
Is that the bold guy who not funny whatsoever
@@andydawson2106 yea but I wouldn't say that he's bold he's definitely bald tho (sorry pal ha)
Hes a comedian........apparently
everytime we watch the bald bloke interview a black footballer, he gets his back up and always seems to judge their backgrounds growing up. Just ask the questions and shh
A series of bad decisions and misjudgements.
The sniffing and coughing spoiled this, you need a mute button.
Poor chap was clearly cold. Was there no heating?
And chewing gum? Good grief.
Yeah chewing gum is bad for an interview, proper bad
It's not a job Interview
Crofty and Chadwick two proper good looking lads 😂👀🤢
