The orange peel is due to the solvent not flashing off fast enough since you laid it on so thick and the low temperatures didn't help. I'm not sure why he had you do the paint job since all he would need to do is watch a 5 minute youtube video and his skills would exceed yours. I loved how you would stop spraying mid-panel like by the front right fender. lol. Total hackery. I'd wet block sand it with 1k, 1.5k, 2k, and then then use a Denim pad for the initial leveling with Meguiars Ultra Cutting Compound M105, then a cutting pad with the same. Finally a softer polishing pad with M205. But first, let that paint cure for at least two weeks.
Exactly what I'm tryina say. He didn't even open the doors and paint inside or paint under the hood, put a wicked lot of paint in one spot on the one side for some reason. Coats were thicker than peanut butter, not sure how he can call this a success. Some poor kid is gonna see this, say "yepp, I am gonna do this to my mint square body Chevy and have me a black truck" and go do it, wrecking yet another classic pickup. The masking tape around the tail light alone is enough to make me cringe.
Clear coat with five cans wet sand then buff with McGuire's buffing compound that will get rid of orange peel . One more clear coat buff with Maguire followed by turtle Wax equals super actually
Thanks for sharing the paint project. I might consider doing the roof and hood of my truck because the local shops won't do sections - they require doing the whole truck for dollar $$$$$$! MACCO is the only shop that would the roof and hood - clear coat may be beyond saving.

Yeeeeeehaaaaa was die-ing to see a video like this. Bravo
If you really wanted to you could wet sand it and then polish/wax it to help with the orangepeel
Definitely better than it was! I'll be picking up my mk3 Supra next week! First I'm doing a 2jz swap then I'll give a shot at Rust-Oleum paint job!
I'll be doing the same to my sc300 soon. Just to get it all one color for now.
@@jawanpowell9053 good luck! Let everyone know how it turns out
Definitely! I'm good when it comes to small stuff like parts and wheels but I would like the challenge of painting a whole car. Cant wait to see your supra.
Bro. You did damn good!! I just bought 4 cans of royal purple turbo and now i know for sure 4 cans will cover my hatch back💯💯
I might go buy a truck tomorrow and I plan to do something similar. I appreciate the video
ngk330 No problem! Follow his channel he does some awesome stuff on there!
Whats the benefit of painting with rustoleum?
@@jotterson1156 cheap and quick
What a sweet old square body
it has gotten a proper paint job since this video but it’s definitely sweet! his newer videos show the updated truck.
Sweet, I've been waiting for this video for a minute. Been really curious about this paint and how it would look on a car. Good job👌 I'll probably put like 6 cans on my hardbody and wet sand/cut n buff
If you take your time in the prep it comes out really nice. This was his first time prepping for paint so it wasn't fully prepped properly but that's why we are all here is to learn from our mistakes. He is happy with it so i am happy with it. It could have been better but he just wanted the truck all the same color.
@@JamesDguy Whats your steps in fully prepping including materials?
Great job James
unstablebobgable Thank you
So without primer? Gnarly.. what do you think about wet sanding then clear coating on top? Rinse and repeat until it’s glass?
Wet sand bring out the blue distress look lower it boom done baddass square body
For a budget build, I think this was pretty well executed. I got to ask, why restolium, and not ppg? Is it easy to wet sand after, just not to sure really...I am an amateur....
I have always loved those trucks
I can imagine the overspray on the cars right next to it🤦. But hey I would do the same thing with a work truck. Looks good 👊🏽
Dude overspray doesn’t go as far as you would think. I’ve painted with cars within 15ft and it was fine. Heavy particles and gravity help a lot..
Bro thank you so much for your videos, you inspired me to me to paint my cutlass with rustoleum cans and the 2k clear in a can. I followed your videos step by step and I love how it came out. I just started my channel and I’m definitely shouting you out when I post my video about my paint job thanks SPRAY CAN G.O.A.T 🔥
Mr DIY Car Customs Thanks man!! Glad it worked out for you
3 yr update?
Earl scheib is up in heaven beaming with pride !
When you steal a truck and have to change the color really fast...
Did you see the paint before smooth brain
@@danielc4595 easy he's joking
Good one.
Look, you done good for spray bombs.my first car l painted was with cans.this is how you learn.hats off to you.you will only get better.lm now a professional painter with 40 yrs experience.keep practicing my friend.
That's a good paint job I must say for rattle can
The orange peel is due to the solvent not flashing off fast enough since you laid it on so thick and the low temperatures didn't help.
HOA would have a heart attack in most neighborhoods
HOA is a ripe off
I painted my S-10 1991 with “sunshine red” used mineral spirits and a $10 spray gun. It looked good. Wish I had pics of it.
liar
Thanks for other video was wanting on one. 💯💯
SwagGod 22 Yea been kinda running out of things to record lol
@@JamesDguy naw do other video we never get tired of painting videos. You can do dyi videos how to fix rims ect
SwagGod 22 For sure man
Clear coat with five cans wet sand then buff with McGuire's buffing compound that will get rid of orange peel . One more clear coat buff with Maguire followed by turtle Wax equals super actually
I’m impressed
Thanks for sharing the paint project. I might consider doing the roof and hood of my truck because the local shops won't do sections - they require doing the whole truck for dollar $$$$$$! MACCO is the only shop that would the roof and hood - clear coat may be beyond saving.
Maaco in a can!!!!!
So I'm re storing a 1971 vw beetle and I'm planning to paint it with rust-oleums paint shade called "Modern mint" how many cans do you think would cover the whole car?
