    Ramurthi naidu is from Andhra.
But most of the telugu people don't know about him it is so sad.

Yes, he was a professor of Physical education in erstwhile Madras University. A performer in circus and possessed amazing understanding of Hindu Strength Training, Yoga and Pranayam. He was killed by cheating by the British. He would make and elephant stand on his chest, such was the strength of his Kumabhaka. Similarly many strong men were erased from our history. Gama pehalwan of Punjab, wrestler Choudhary of Haryana, Biddo Brahman pehalwan, Balram Heeraman Singh Yadav, of erstwhile Hyderabad...were some exceptional examples of strength.

I did both the squats and the Hindu pushups you mentioned. Two days later, I'm still sore. I only do calisthenics, but these exercises hit the muscles so differently. I like these a whole lot.

@@Suraj30095 I suggest you can start doing upper body(dand) and lower(baithak) both twice a week, like dand on Mondays and Thursdays, and baithak on Tuesdays and Fridays, other days rest or cardio/walk whatever you wish.
Though I am not a pro in this field, still want to add that if you want to do so many reps, start applying oil to your body before you work out and start to include more ghee in your diet. That's what I've heard in many of the kusti and pehlwani workouts

    One more point.
Doing it slowly, like you showed, would put tremendous load on patellar tendon. For someone looking to strengthen their knee joint, this exercise is awsome. However patients with severe knee pain shouldn't do this.

Kumbhaka pranayam increases strength immensely...this is a method of increasing strength through improving efficiency of oxygen usage by specific muscle groups.
This is also similar to blood flow restriction training done in the west that prevents blood flow to organs being trained and helps in improving size and strength of that muscle group being trained.
When you hold your breath you restrict blood flow. Please understand, this is why your heart beat slows down as well when you hold your breath.
Hindu strength training without pranayama is irrelevant. There are three kinds of kumbhaka - bahya, antar, niyantrit. All these three are used appropriately with the right type of workouts to improve strength.

I love how you are sharing this stuff, really awesome. I have a question - if Indian squats only focus on the quadriceps, doesn't that make them a bit problematic due to the danger of creating muscle imbalances? I know wrestlers practice their squats A LOT - so isn't such an imbalanced focus bad for the long term? Are there any exercises that focus more on the glutes and hamstrings?

yes, sit down in floor. extend the leg which you want to strengthen. Place a rolled towel exactly under you knee ( HINGE). And press down onto the rolled towel with all you force for 20- 30 sec. Repeat 3 times and do it every day. instantly you will feel knee pain gone and will feel knee strong.

Do rammurthy squats slowly but go down only to the point where you can hold position comfortably.
Pain is normal, but if it doesn't go away within 24 hours, don't do the exercise.
This exercise is good for knee strengthening if done carefully. It strengthens patellar tendon.
