He was just rising at that moment, gaining recognition and fame. In an interview from that time, he mentioned that he loved to play in such compact-sized places and didn't feel that he was able to perform in front of a huge audience. However, as we all know now, he is able to pull in a big crowd and is considered the best live performer.
