Index rebranding once in 6 months may be fine for other indices like quality, volatility etc. But in the case of of momentum based index, the 6 months period is fairly long, momentum is an integral part of stock market. So shortening the time for rebranding from 6 months to 2 or 3 months would be more appropriate in case of Nifty 200 momentum 30 index. Thank you for proving useful information.
One of solution could be we can use momentum index for long term investments like retirements and during market crash we can switch to the UTI index fund until the market is normal again.

I have nifty 200 momentum 30 index in my watchlist. Was in 2 minds whether to invest or not..this video provided lot of clarity. It looks like a good passive fund thank you:)
Excellent, outstanding, absolute,.... and much more. You and your team deserve a big thank you for this and such brilliant knowledge based videos. Best Regards!
I mean you are correct that the word momentum has been borrowed from Newton's laws, but its not the 1st law that talks about momentum but the 2nd one. It states that the rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to applied force and acts in the direction of the force. Thanks for the thoroughly informative video though !!
Excellent report and presentation. Keep bringing in these fantastic analysis of quirky, hidden and unique themes. This will what differentiate your content with others.
volatility is integral to the stock market and is the only reality. By the time the momentum index is churned, the stocks may have lost its relevance. So once in 6 months, churn makes very little sense. So a trial run may be conducted by churning once in 2/3 months ( still better if churn is done once in a month). On the basis of observation of results, a decision can be taken by concerned authorities. So shorter churning period would enable investors to benefit from volatility. Yes,of course, this would increase the risk . But then, momentum investing is having higher risk, and those who are capable of taking risks would only enter. Recently, a big conglomerate faced hard times due to short-selling, and the stock fell sharply due to high volatility. But the stocks could not be weeded out immediately, which weighed on index heavily.
Excellent video! Clarifies all the doubts I had. That said, a follow up question would be that does it make sense to have one Nifty 50, one Nifty next 50 and one Nifty 200 Momentum 30 index fund as part of the long term (20+ years) retirement portfolio? (the portfolio would also have an actively managed midcap fund such as Invesco Midcap fund and one international equity fund which could be either of Kotak Nasdaq FoF/Motilal Oswal Nasdaq FoF/Motilal Oswal S&P 500)
@@bvisvana That is quite a generalized statement you are making without considering the context. I would suggest refraining from such advice. I'll explain why. After you read my comment, please do respond with why you still think it is overdiversification regardless of the type of investor. Here goes : Let's take one aspect of investment into consideration for example which is the amount available for investment per month. For a small-time investor with a budget of 10k per month, this is overdiversification; however, if someone has a budget of 1 lakh per month just for equities portion of their portfolio (debt portion accounted for separately), this diversification is actually a good thing and necessary. Consider another aspect of investment which is the duration. For a short-term investor (3-5 years investment horizon), this is overdiversification. But for a long term and matured investor (10-20 years investment horizon), this is a no brainer and a must to ensure that the cyclical nature of the indexes is accounted for. My question was to the author of this video just to see what they think of this strategy. I am actually quite confident that for the long term, these three indices combined will ensure good downside protection.
My core investment is in Nifty 50 index fund. Does it make sense to have this momentum index fund as an add on? There would be some bit of portfolio overlap, but does it makes sense to get some extra returns?
Hello sir , When you are conducting BACKTEST on this strategies, 1).are you considering respective periods index composition OR 2). Present index composition Please reply...
Hi Shankar Sir, Thank you for the wonderful video, as always. I would like to know what type of mutual funds(or any other asset classes) should be allotted to what kind of goals?(Retirement, Children Education etc.) i.e. basically bucket of instruments under a goal based on time and risk appetite towards the goal. Thank you in advance.
please review other factor based indices like Midcap Momentum 50, Midcap Quality 50, Alpha Low Volatility 30, Nifty 50 Value 20, Nifty 200 Quality 30.....
Thank you for sharing 🙏 I was in doubt that whether I need to invest in this fund or not. But this video gave me a solid picture. I will look for any overlapping with the other funds in my portfolio and go with this one mostly.
As usual you have come up with a new strategy. Thanks for educating the investors on the concept of momentum investing keep this going. Every investor should go through the videos made by etmoney before they start investing.👍👍👍👍👍

Great again! Shankar, Please answer me. I am very new to Mutual Funds. After watching your few videos and doing a lots of research, I invested in 12 Funds. Of these 12 funds 8 are giving 3.5 to 6% increase in just 10 days. The other 4 are small negatives. Does this mean that I should divest these 4 funds and add the funds to the positive 8 funds immediately, please? Thanks and regards / Tissy
No sir... 10 days is too less time to decide performance of a fund.. kindly consider holding these funds for a year atleast... after that you may decide which ones to keep and which ones to lose.
