This is an old-school tradition, for a legend to bring a talented rising star on stage and get them to perform on the fly. There is an old video clip online where James Brown saw Michael in the audience. Michael got on stage and performed. Prince just happened to be at the same show and they made him come on stage and do an improvised performance.
Eric Benet should have “Never Let Go” of that opportunity
