  • This video will go over how to kiteboard upwind in lightwinds with a twintip board. Yes, foilboards are more efficient but it is possible to ride a twintip in lightwinds. Lightwinds will teach you how to be as efficient as possible, which makes it easier to jump higher when the winds are good. That validates my point.... often riders would say “The wind is light, I’ll attached the lines in the second knot “ Gives me more power.....Right ??? But they end up stalling the kite..!!!

Super informative video! Impressive how much you can lean back in the harness even in light wind.
I would love to see a tutorial vid on how to get into the proper 'leaning back into the harness' position when riding. 🤩

      Hi Barry!
If I may put my cents in,
The more you use your body leaning back, the better it is and your arms will thank You for it.
Also, if you “sit” on your harness, you will go upwind even better..... Is trial and error and Discovery to work on it on every session.... I hope it helps 👍 !!!!

@@Stratneck thanks! Great to hear from you. I always appreciate your insights. I think half of my progression stalls would be addressed if I just got out on the water more. My next mission will be to 'lean back on the harness' or bust!

Barry by leaning on the harness, you are using your weight against the center lines and simultaneously allows you to redirect the board upwind ☺️...
Is all about experimenting with the kite and the board.... if you loose speed, that means you are heading to much into the wind.... the Whole idea is to be the most efficient As possible with less Phisical effort...👍

Thats a great question! Its hard to explain on the internet but for this I hook people to a control bar on the beach and have them simulate leaning back and am able to pin the amount needed. You dont want to lean back too much. Just a gentle/ comfortable lean back and slight turn at the hips (think of your belly button like a headlight and point it where you want to go). Also balance the tension in the bar and trust your harness. Pulling in or pushing out with the bar is just as important because if you lean back and push out too much you'll fall backwards so its finding the balance.

My question is: Do You set the outside lines in the first, or 2nd knot.....??? And why ???

1st knot every lesson so far. Haven't ventured into experimenting with those adjustments yet. Want to get proper riding form, upwind riding, riding switch and doing transitions down as my basics. Almost made it to Tampa last week. I need to retire so I can kite! Hope all is well with you. Happy Father's Day!

Great question! I actually go to the outside knot or knot furthest away from the kite. This opens the kite up to capture more wind in lighter winds. If you go to the inside knot the kite will stall easiest. Middle knot is okay too, just make sure your bar is tuned and all four lines are equal in length

You say deeper on window, should I bring kite all the way back up and dive aggressively when signing. ?

Hey quick question. Are you learning back hard but keeping the board flat with a little edge? I see you start going, you sheet all the way out but then you sheet back in to gain tension?

As soon as I get the kite deep into the wind window I lean back hard but not too hard to break the tension between myself and the kite. The goal is to create tension between myself and the kite to generate speed which i can then use to go upwind. Its finding a balance between bar tension and creating an edge. Hope this helps and good question!

I'm 180lbs. I have a 12m. Thinking of getting a lighter wind kite for twin tip board. What would you recommend? 15m?

What did you end up getting? I am in same situation at 180lb and have 12m switchblade. 15m or 17m contra…?

@@synth963 I stayed with the 12m. Larger board got me out on lighter wind days. Generally here in Chicago below 12m conditions isn't worth it.. But I would say 15m contra for sure, unless you want to do like huge jumps then go for a 17m. I am going to get into foiling so that will solve my light wind days. If you are new I would stick to the 12m until you decide which direction you want to go in the sport.

@@philipniles6584 Thanks, that is an original tip. I am in Northeast and a lot of my conditions are too light for my switchblade. I think foiling may be tough for me too. The tides change quite a bit for my spot, risking expensive foil crashes into sandbars/rocks.
