    Easy to grind the seeds in a coffee grinder. I grind one tablespoon of chia seeds and flax seed in the grinder and then add it to my cooked steel cut oats.

      Jay Dee good stuff. Yes I also use hemp seeds and nutritional yeast and sometimes oat bran. My blood pressure is about the same as yours, I am 66 years old. LDL is excellent as is the cholesterol level and blood sugar. I also use Amla powder in a cup of green tea for a morning drink along with lentils , greens and garden vegetables but I do have a soft spot for fruit.

      I've turned SO many people vegan (ish) by sitting them down to a slew of Greger videos. Their short, sweet, to the point, entertaining and clearly based on research, so people are absolutely mesmerized. Even if they still eat a lot of animal products, there's a definite increase in whole plant foods and a consciousness about overdoing it with meat & eggs. YAY. I'll take anything I can get!

      It’s fine to sprout your own, as long as you do it all properly and keep it clean and rinsed a lot, so free from bacteria etc. Like with anything you sprout. I’m not surprised that there was a bad batch of some mass produced processed stuff though. Better to just buy some seeds:)

    There's a third alternative to consume chía seeds that is neither whole nor ground/milled, which is soaked becoming some sort of jelly-like goo. I personally prefer milled seeds since I actually like the taste of all the foods I consume including flaxseeds and chía seeds, but for those who don't like them (the soaked seeds are practically tasteless) and consume them solely by its health benefits, it might be a good idea to soak chía seeds before consuming them provided that soaking them help them digest the seeds and absorbe their nutrients.

      @That Barefoot Vegan
      Don't listen to victorztw bro. THREE SQUARE MEALS is the way to go. Just eat them at intervals though. One great big meal eaten all at once is what give you a big belly. Just divide your lunch into 2 and eat the second bit after 2 hours.
      Good for your digestive system as well. Starvation is a definite no no. 1 meal a day cannot be healthy. What about all the healthy food items you need? You cannot eat them all at once.
      You need whole breakfast cereals which you can team up with other vegetables/fruits such as banana, kiwi and avocado.
      Then you need raw salad for your evening or day time meal to get all those nutrients from raw food including a fruit.
      The main meal would be all the cooked vegetables such as broccoly, cabbage, carrots, spinach etc. and another fruit.

    • @the8thchurch461
      @the8thchurch461 5 років тому +1

    So do foods with toxic lectins (or similar) suppress appetite? Do foods that necessitate digestive acids or bile in particular instinctively suppress appetite, regarding foods in queue, which require enzymes for digestion, which would be destroyed by acids? Is that not in part why vinegar can suppress appetite? And aren't the most obese individuals the one's who, for neurological reasons, eat the most, even while their appetite is partially suppressed? Slow and low carb diets work in part by suppressing appetite, due to heavy fibers or complex sugars or high protein or high fat content. The overwhelming/suppression strategies can only deliver partial results and can sometimes conflict with better weight loss strategies, which are ultimately necessary.
    If they can not prove some particular metabolic advantage, such as heightened insulin resistance of muscles, in comparison to that of fat cells, or some influence of ATP production or similar, then i don't buy that a substance or food is generally helpfull with weight loss. I did buy amla (amalaki churna) just recently, buying into the claim that it detoxes cholesterol and thereby increases hormone sensitivity. Not as cheap in germany, by the way.

  • @LCTesla
    @LCTesla 6 років тому +1

    I think it's because of the essential fatty acids. The human body can poorly distinguish types of fat early in the ingestive process, so it craves them indiscriminately until it finds the omega 3s it needs. Give it the omega 3 and the cravings stop.

    This has been my entire fat loss strategy. Fat loss progress so far? 230 pounds to 177 pounds. From December 2017 to June 2018.
    Literally eating 4 table spoons of Chia seeds keeps me full/away from kitchen naturally, for 10,12,14,16 hours. Straight.
    I blend the chia seeds in a vegetable smoothie for fun. You can eat them however you like.
    I fully soak the chia seeds in water for 7-10 minutes. Chia seeds if not soaked in water, will simply take the water they need from your stomach if swallowed unsoaked.
    Chia seeds taking water from your stomach may cause stomach pain, which i experienced Twice in my case.
    Rice, Couscous, Spaghetti and other carb types. Keep me full for 30 minutes, 1 hour, maybe 1 hour 30 minutes.
    Once Chia seeds are eaten. Everything else i eat is for fun (Not needed to keep me full)
    All the chicken, salads, eggs, etc i eat. Becomes eaten for fun instead of needing to keep full.

      Hi, WillsM85! In the video, Dr. Greger did not recommend against chia gel, but he did recommend against making it with the sprouted chia seed powder, because of potential contamination. I hope that helps!

      Jason Reagan I don't believe it was.
      Whose to say you can't have both? I like chia pudding for breakfast, but find flax mixes into a better consistancy with things like smoothies. I find personal preference for taste and texture are what matter as both are relatively nutritious foods regardless.

    could u maybe make a vid about omega 3:6 ratio
    as we know around a 1:1 is best...but for example ive a omega 6 requirement of 17g...i doubt that ud want me to eat 17g of omega 3 right? lol
    from what ive read >21g omega 6 and >5g chia is slightly inflammatory in its own right
    its like a dilemma or something..."want to even out stuff to improve inflammation but mustnt because it increases inflammation" - the fuq is this lol

    Ok, so ground chia promotes better weightloss and other benefits compared to oat bran, but that doesn't mean it promotes more weightloss than not eating the chia seeds at all, or am I missing something?

    • @NutritionFactsOrg
      @NutritionFactsOrg  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Nachtfalter! Test results often depend on the comparison. If you want to make something look good, compare it with something much worse. If you want to make it look bad, compare it with something much better. Comparing chia with oat bran is a good comparison, because both foods have a lot of fiber. Weight loss with chia seeds is likely due to fiber making people feel full longer. The key is that chia has more benefits when ground than when eaten whole. Just don't buy sprouted chia seed powder, due to risk of contamination. I hope that helps!

    Can I use two spoons of chia seeds in the morning and two spoons of basil seeds In the evening...after soaking them for 4HRS...My idea is to fulfill the calcium, magnesium that are required per day

    • @NutritionFactsOrg
      @NutritionFactsOrg  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, Karthik K! I'm not sure where you got the idea to eat soaked basil seeds. That hasn't been covered on NutritionFacts.org, as far as I can tell, and I don't know anything about it. Generally speaking, nutrients in ground seeds are more readily absorbed. Although 4 hours is a relatively short soaking time, it could provide an ideal environment for bacterial growth. I usually throw some seeds in the blender with other ingredients when I make a smoothie, salad dressing, or sauce. I hope that helps!

    If you have to grind chia and flax for their benefits, are they really supposed to be eaten by humans?

    • @AutMouseLabs
      @AutMouseLabs 6 років тому +1

      I suppose one could chew them very thoroughly but mechanical advantage is a big part of why humans have survived as a species despite being physically weak and slow for our size. Its speculative on my part of course but I would hazard that there is no "supposed to" in nature just a series of try it and see what works. Flax and chia both seem to be power houses nutritionally for humans and we have the tech to access the nutrition better so it feels like a win. Incidentally without alkaline substances corn is nutritionally useless to humans and without cooking many tubers are far less bioavailable to humans as well. So this situation isn't unique to tiny seeds. All that said I don't know. Maybe there is more out there and there is a "supposed to" at play in all of this. If so based on access to the nutrients I would imagine we are supposed to eat fruits and nuts mostly. Cheers!
