Wow, great presentation. I'm just learning the ropes of fishing down in the Sea of Cortez. I've been a lake and stream fisherman all my life. I bought myself a Mako 171 and I'm loving it. You filled in a lot of information I needed. The water down here has almost reached the temp's for the Dorado (Mahi) to show up but till then trolling for big Cabrilla and Grouper on the points is always productive. Side Note: Today we saw a flock of birds diving on bait with fish slashing through the school. as we were gunning it back to shore after a dismal morning fishing in the fog. We both looked at each other and got rods in the water. We both hooked up to 30+ lb Jack Crevalle. Took over 1/2 an hour to get just one fish finally in the boat, the other got off. Turned a nothing morning into a great day of fishing.

I just got back from a trip in the Caribbean, and despite never having done any proper offshore trolling, thanks to all of your videos I was prepared. I took your lessons to heart, that fishing is all about being prepared, about controlling the things you can control. I basically came from knowing nothing to knowing how to troll a whole spread, including deep diving lures, with proper crimped connections, Mahi topwater chuggers and jets, and so forth. Basically everything I know, I know thanks to you, and you made this trip a success. Thank you sir, for all the hard work you put into teaching. Please never stop.

There is a lot of fishing shows in the world , but I only watch a few, this guy is one of the only shows I stop and watch every time he pops up in the feed, I’ve been watching this show since it was on the fishing channel back in the early 2000s, him ,mark sosin ,and norm issacs this guy actually turned me on to using momoi fishing line and flourocarbon leaders which I’ve been using for years and out fishing guys who wouldn’t adapt , ahead of his time straight to the point and no bs this guy is a true fisherman, I wish I could see him do a show out here in Hawaii on the Oahu island

Great job and very informative as usual Mike, look forward to seeing the new shows in the future, I had my nomads rigged with cable and didn’t do well , I was afraid of loosing the expensive plugs, then switched over to 250 clear leader catching more and only lost one plug.
Just added outriggers so I’m going to try to mix up a few DTX sizes and positions this weekend!

One more comment. I have constantly caught 30+ pound Blackfin Tuna up here on the FL Panhandle with both 200s and 220s rigged for Wahoo. It’s become a great bi-catch for when the Wahoo aren’t cooperating. Trolling at 8-10 knots.

Hi Mike I’m heading down to marathon in January Never been fishing in January in all the years we have fished in keys. Usually go in June-July. We were thinking of trolling 10knts for Wahoo on reefs edge with deep diving plugs and other lures - maybe some yellow tail on reef and BF on hump trolling and jigs if weather allows? Thanks for all the help.
We'll be down in Marathon the first week of June. Wish you guys we're doing something that week, would love some live guidance. Thank you so much for what you guys do it's a great resource.

hey cap did you ever have the mono burn thru where it is connected to the lure from the swimming motion of the lure?
Got my first wahoo the other day on a pink Xrap magum 15 trolling the humps for tuna. Up here in west central coast we troll the 25 to 30 divers for gags and kings
I have also seen Nomad videos showing the mono. I'll try this next time out. Have used 4 feet of wire for 30 years.

What reel(s) would you recommend for wahoo? I bought a penn Ally 80-130 and the butt diameter is too large for my Shimano Tyrnos 30. Please try to keep it cost effective. I can’t buy a $3,000 reel. Thank you Mike for the help.

Split tail mullet pulled off planers or trolling leads are excellent wahoo baits.

Braid is thinner and cuts through the water easier, allowing me to achieve maximum depth penetration. However I do include a 25 ft top shot of 150 lb mono. How are you connecting the 150lb mono top shot to braid?
Been thinking of running a 40' planer off the stern cleat, then double snap swivel/rubber band setup to send a DTX 220 Minnow that also dives to 40'. Theoretically, I would be able to get the lure 80' down - will this work? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
What about the rod?
Are you taking that heavy mono leader directly to your braid or is there a top shot in-between your leader and braid?

I got 130 lb mono for a top shot on my penn 80 can I just crimp that to the lure
Hey Mike several years ago here in north fla I purchased several big yozuri fish lures they seam to pull like a sprayed cock roach just all over the place is that normal and are they worth trying again two trips with no luck appreciate your take on these lures

Hi Mike, I have a question I'm using 100lb leader to my lure single or double barrel crimps dose it matter, and abrasive sleeves would that cause the jig to swim poorly, your appinoun.

How far back are you trolling them for wahoo? The packaging says at least 200’ to get them to their maximum depth but I hear a lot of people pulling them closer.

Good evening, what braided line is necessary to correctly use the DTX 220, and go down 50 feet. And how far from the boat do you have to put it to reach this depth? I am going to try these lures in Spain in spring when different pelagics approach our coasts.

0.55-0.60mm of PE braided line would be correct to knot to the 1.20mm fluorocarbon line of the DTX220. I would like to know more or less distances for the Grouper in 10-20-30 feet. and for amberyack!!

The problem is the removal of shark longlines the population of shark is exploding
Looks like you have more then 1 sleave on the line that your crimping

You got me! In a rush to rig that rod for the seminar, I mistakenly mounted the reel on backwards as I was doing 57 things at one time and noticed it during the speech...lol...only human.

Will 30-80LB or 50-100LB rods be okay? Is 60-130LB rods really necessary for the 200/220s? Loved the seminar!
