Yeah. After living through HOI4's many iterations I didn't expect this to launch clean. Glad they got the display scaling issue fixed though. It's a pretty game that can be enjoyed in higher resolutions.
You might as well just buy Stellaris and get the New Horizons mod, at the moment the mod has way more content than Infinate, which is just a watered down version of Stellaris.
Stellaris may be a bit much for a Trek fan just looking to play around. Plus add in the modding aspect which everyone isn't comfortable with. I expect there will be more content coming down the pike in this. Plus its own modding scene where the modders can use the licenced IP. Might just be wishful thinking on my part.
The group that I play with are pretty big Trek fans, they have no problems with it. For someone who's looking to "play around" then ots as simple as just increasing the tech modifiers and playing in a small universe if they don't want the long drawn out game, which from the looks of it is the default experience with both games until settings are changed. Since the mods are on the workshop its just a 1 click install and it's done and by technicality Infinate is a molded version of Stellaris that people have to pay for, so you'd be getting the Trek mod and many more experiences on top of that for free once you've bought the base game. The gameplay in New Horizons has you starting off just before the NX era, you get to ride the whole line of ships all the way up to modern day Trek either in the standard universe or the mirror universe, even branching them further with alternate timelines along the way from events in the show. The lore of the mod is yaken directly from the shows, so you'll get to play through some of your favorite episodes in some cases. All in all New Horizons is a far more fulfilling Trek experience from what I've seen so far from Infinate.
@CommanderCort one thing infinite does *really* well is the art style. New horizons is full of great content, but the art for the races really puts me off and takes me out. If they could somehow get the quality of art for each race into the New horizons mod, and get better voice acting in the mod, it would become the ultimats star trek experience on PC. Currently, that game is Star Trek Armada 3, the sins of a solar empire mod, which is very faithful to the TNG era of trek.
as someone who hasnt seen star trek besides the movies with Chris Pine. Id say that this game is a ton of fun and worth the money! im hoping to see other playable factions and a more in depth Multi-player but all in all i enjoy it!
I didn't mention it, but I was pleasantly surprised that the multiplayer worked as well as it did. Lots of more expensive and mature games *cough* civilization *cough* have... Hiccups... in their multiplayer experience.
Its a game where the agenda is clear and present no matter which race you choose.
Its also Bug ridden as all paradox games are on release.
