      Yeah, exactly. When I worked at a video store a woman got upset about the movie playing on the TV as she felt it wasn't appropriate for her child in the stroller (who was asleep). The manager explained that the movie playing is within the allowed ratings for viewing in the store and since it was a new movie we needed to be showing it. She insisted he turn it off or she'd take her business elsewhere. He told her thank you for her years of being a customer and that she was welcome to go elsewhere as he would not change the movie for her. She didn't expect that and left. He proceeded to take her out of the system. Funny thing is the only other place in town had a not-so-nice nickname because he'd call the cops on people if the movie was an hour late. People really think they're the special customer that's going to make or break your business.

He was not the type to make them think they won (though they would often think that no matter what), but they would spin the wildest tales. Real fun when they would go on their spiel, say something like "Well how are you gonna defend yourself now?" (of course with a smug smirk), and I'd just point at the ceiling and say "With that". Yeah, that smirk disappeared real quickly most of the time. Especially because the cameras would show it either never happened, or they were accusing me of what they'd done to me.
      Like surprise, a pool deck is covered in cameras, and of course one of them is pointed at the check in desk.

    Working in a booze shop this hit HARD, especially the "here's a Photoshopped picture of my ID now serve me". It possibly helps that the US drinking age is 21, so Americans are used to getting carded into our 30's (and by the time you hit your 40's, getting carded is practically a compliment on how young you look). If you carded an 80-year-old, they might be a bit annoyed.

    Ugh, I hate the "heres a photo" when I ask for ID. It needs to be a physical, valid ID. I have to hold it in my hands and make sure its not expired. As for the virtual IDs that "the airport/cops" can take, they have computers! They can look up if you're lying! The barista serving you beer or the hotel desk needing a photocopy are compleatly different
    I work in a theme park, so a lot of people's excuses are "i didn't want to lose my passport/ID, so I didn't bring it". Great! You can't drink then
    Also, LOVE the professional "just because other places let you, we're not" speech. I can't tell you how often I hear "well, the OTHER theme park lets me!"

    • @waffles3629
      @waffles3629 3 місяці тому +2

      Yep. My favorite one with "Well this other person/location/completely unrelated company blah blah blah let me do it" is when they are actually talking about you. Like "Well the supervisor last Sunday let me do it", like oh, oh really? You mean the Sunday supervisor that's me? I did not let you do that last week, but nice try.

    Had Jess or Natalia not been watching the camera for the dog, I guarantee that the woman would have asked about alternate entry points in order to try and sneak the dog in. Happens more often than you think.
    Also, I hope that Jess made sure that the name on the woman's ID and credit card matched each other, and are legit hers.

    I actually live in a country where ID I’d not legally required. They’re changing that sneakily though (voter ID even though the actual forms of voter fraud aren’t affected by ID). As a result it’s always fun explaining to people like the doctors receptionist that yes they do have to allow me to pick up my patient history without photographic ID 😂

      I once allowed a guest to use a photo of his ID to check in. He'd lost his wallet. He'd been hassled at the airport. He just wanted to sleep as this was his last night in a hotel on his way home. He verified all the other info and was a regular guest at our hotel so it wasn't sketchy. I felt so bad for him
      I did NOT feel bad for the guest that tried to use a Costco ID, then an expired driver's license. For a third party booking...if they hadn't been so angry and acting like *I* was the asshole, I probably would have let it slide as long as their cc was good. But they were asses so I made them book two more rooms with the lady who DID have an ID.

    I swear I have probably had this exact scenario happen to me well over a thousand times at the front desk of hotels. I've worked at a couple and the amount of people who threaten me, swear at me, spit at me, threatened to jump across the counter, slam doors, try to break things, throw things, and more. It's unbelievable. And they invariably make a complaint to corporate and then they lie. I'm rude, I'm racist, That's not what really happened. Blah blah blah. Almost very time we look at the cameras there's a dog they're trying to sneak in or they've got extra people. There's this one group that keeps on coming to every hotel I've worked at and they're on the do not rent list at every hotel in the area... But they'll have one person come in and then they'll maybe claim. There's a second person but none of them have any idea or they have an international translation fake ID. That's not actually from a government agency. And if you go to the international translation website it says that they're required to have the actual government ID with it. But none of them have an actual government ID so they couldn't have actually gotten a real international translation and they all look fake you know? And we look at the camera and they've told us that there's only them or only two people in the room.... And there are like 8 to 10 people. Which is way over fire code.

    Funny ID story: Back in the 80s, when people paid for stuff at stores with personal checks, I tried to use my CA non-driver ID at JC Penney's. They refused that because they'd never heard of a state-issued card for people who can't drive--but accepted the meal card from my dormitory at the local university. (I got the CA non-driver ID to be admitted for the SATs after failing driver's ed. After I left school and got a job, I got private driving lessons where I got a full hour of practice per lesson, not 10 minutes.)

    I had a couple pull in late one night who wanted to pay cash. Yes, that was fine, but he'd have to leave a deposit, and show ID. He immediately started yelling that it was his identity and I couldn't have it. Well then, have a good evening. And he insisted on taking the ticket he'd filled out so I couldn't have his identity. I don't know what he thought would happen if I had checked him in 'cause he wasn't getting the ticket back in the morning.
    She looked tired and pissed. Probably looking at another night sleeping in the little convertable.
