Watching these musicians interact is like watching two professors talk about the height of their works with gusto. I do not understand everything they say to each other but I can understand the energy and power of the exchange not to mention the passion that comes with what they do.

I was lucky to attend a 5-day workshop with Bobby McFerrin and his then-vocal group, Voicestra, at the Omega Institute about a dozen years ago. It was like being in the presence of a not-yet-ascended master whose prayers were all musical vocalizations, which we were led to participate in. There were professional musicians from all over the world who'd flown in for it; some couldn't even speak English, but they understood the music. I'm a total amateur with no professional aspirations, but I've always wanted to be freer about singing than I had been, so I participated with gusto and mostly on-pitch. Five of the best days of my life. And twice a day, we sang w/Bobby - and yes, one of the songs we worked on was Autumn Leaves. But it never, ever sounded like this!

go pay to see their duo tour, coming to Europe soon. peripherally supporting Scientology well aside, it's quite well even more bloody fucking amazingly beautiful than this trio setting.. if you have the guts, you can go up and sit in and trade riffs with Bobby.
i did, i blew chunks, but i did it. i am the idiot at the 2013 Frankfurt show 2who instead of listening and interacting with BOBBY and CHICK O MY GOD! (which is the whole point and goal) on a monk tune, "mysterio" i think, just opened my mouth and did some very not interesting scatting and Bobby goes, "uh,,just go ahead, man" and then cut me off... oh well...:p

Hey McFerrin.....the only way you get to say 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' is if YOU have either a. : Passed A Kidney Stone b. : Have diverticulitis so bad that it punched a hole in my sigmoid colon, c. : Burry your wife of 30 years way, WAY before her time. THEN you can give me that B.S. about not worrying and being happy. I respect your talent, but you are forever attached to that ear-worm of a song that only proved ONE thing about music, and it's a quote from all fictional characters Lisa Simpson, "You can never go broke while catering to the lowest common denominator". I love Corea and Co...........but only when they are PLAYING and not having someone muck everything up with vocals.

i know we re not supposed to talk about clothes, gotta be serious and just about the music, BUT
i have NOTICED that girls are wearing essentially what Bobby is here . It didn't look really good on him then, but apparently some designer in Dusseldorf or Tokyo saw this vid and thought "well, why not omg. why not?" i call it the lumpy dumpy frumpy look, and ladies, it don't look good on anybody but go ahead

Bobby uses his voice like an instrument. And,, he plays it like MILES.

.... I agree with all the statements, only one question - did not indicate who plays the drums ...?! Incorrect somehow))

I just think that's the beauty of music. People like all different kinds of foods, right? A really good juicy hamburger can taste fantastic. And so can the most expensive dinner at a Paris restaurant. It just all depends. C'est la Vie.

Horrible as far as I'm concerned. If you like thon strange vocalising, well and good. I also wonder why he is acting like a child "air playing" a musical instrument. The one part where he actually sings the words is dire too. I'm bemused and mystified by the vocalist. The pianist, however, is a different matter, and the bassist. It's just gimmickry from Ferrin as far as I'm concerned. Can he sing properly at all?

I like plenty of what Bobby does....the "PLAY" album is great....Bobby seems to think his falsetto voice is more naturally pleasing then it is....it's a fine addition to his vocabulary, allows for his great ideas to have more contrast....but here, singing for minutes on end with it, it shows he's not really that good of a high tenor, that he can justify just sitting there all day. SOme men's voices are very sweet up there, and can make a career out of it.

Before McFerrin was a singer he made his living playing piano. Can you believe this guy was ever anything but a singer?

I laughed so much with his interpretation. But I recognize that this is real music, and the best improvisation I have ever seen.

Love this but what is up with Chick's hair?! Looks like Sideshow Bob at the piano lol. Guess he earned the moniker, "Mad Hatter."
