    Well, it reminds me more of a karate punch, straight line, fast tate tsuki. After all, Steven trained in karate as well. Later he added the Wing Chun/ Chinese martial arts to his arsenal. All in all, great video 🍻

    Steven Seagull cross trained with one of my instructors back in the 90s under Guro Dan Inosanto who was Bruce Lee's student and best friend. If you remember the stick fight in Out for Justice in the pool hall. Plus he has been learning from Samuel Kwok in Wing Chun.

      Dan inosanto does Escrima which is Philippino stick fighting Bruce does Jeet kune do.. it's like saying Elton John did a song with Eminem that makes Elton a Rapper lol..or Mike Tyson was in Ip Man so now he knows wing chun 😮🙄 stop and think about it.

      @@Chineseboxingjkd Are you sure you are a jkd practitioner? Of course Guro Dan does FMA and Silat but from 1964 up until Bruce Lee left for Hong Kong to pursue his movie career, Bruce left Guro Dan in charge of his Los Angeles school until Bruce told him to close the school and teach out his backyard. I seriously doubt that you even know JKD and can't get your history right.

    So I guess the takeaway overall is: try to stay out of range of the other guy's punches but then move in close when it comes your time to punch (him) ?

    I did martial arts over 30yrs ago, my family on my dad's side were boxers.....golden gloves at one time or another. My dad's family come from County kerry in 40s, bare knuckle boxing,shillaghes were common. I started a martial art an managed to get a blackbelt....went on to work the doors in the 80s. One thing I found out real quickly, katas and set training sequence don't work in real world. The jab you discussed is common in bare knuckle boxing, many a time that kind of jab finished a confrontation quickly. The knowledge was passed on to boxing by my kin. No telegraph of the shoulder or body language give aways.

    I always assumed they just speeded up the video a bit in his movie punch scenes. I guess the way to tell if he really punches that fast would be to talk to some of the cast and crew from his films and ask about that matter. ?

    • @justinwallace269
      @justinwallace269 Рік тому +3

      He's actually that fast. Seen him do it even at 70. In the Jesse Enkamp interview, Seagal was very quick and refined with his hands, even at a relaxed pace. People love to talk shit because his training methods didn't suit UFC, but the guy is a 100% legit as a martial artist in his own domain.

    Punches like that are used in Bando. I noticed that Bruce Lee would often times punch like that and sometimes he would throw the Haymaker when the opponent wasn't aware or had his guard down.

    When discussing Segal's straight punnch, you said, "It's easier to get a nice, big, flat block to punch straight in." My concern about what you demonstrated is that the first finger joint could hit bone - like a chin. Am I overly concerned about a non-issue? Please take a moment and clarify? Many thanks.

    • @rainofstone7232
      @rainofstone7232 Рік тому

      I believe you have a valid concern but, when you use the vertical fist, you should punch with the first 2 knuckles so that you reduce the risk of damaging your hand. I don't know if that answers your question but that's all I have for you.

    Steve Seagal doesn't punch fast 😮 you two do not punch fast.. also comparing Bruce lee Steve Seagal is ridiculous. The philosophy of Jeet Kune Do is completely different to Aikido EG: you said Bruce Lee jumped forward to punch 😮 No he never, he pushed from his rear foot to move forward to strike, also he used his hips for the power of the punch in the same way boxer do. Steve Seagal strikes from his shoulders never engaging his hips and even then the punches are Not!! fast and his chin is always exposed. If you seriously think Steve Seagal is fast how fast is Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Michael jai white and Bruce Lee?

    Exactly 💯 He applies Wing Chun punches with the same straight back and solid core of Aikido. It's a very Japanese approach to Chinese punches, and it works. It's also important to note that this style of punch is safer for the hand and wrist than conventional boxing punches and has slightly better reach. It won't be quite as powerful and it lacks the variety of angles that boxing provides, but it does have speed, penetration, and less chance to break your hand mid fight. It's a great move to stun someone with while you're transitioning into another grappling attack.
