I had lights do the same, it was the wiring from the lights, right in the back, they were aftermarket lights. Did you try that or how did this work out?
Ok, one major thing. Long ago mercedes came out with a bulletin saying not to use aluminum fuses. You MUST use copper fuses.

Yep- solved that problem completely. The car still had other electrical gremlins that were unfortunately more difficult

The issues resolved themselves after addressing the fuse box and fuses. Luckily it was an easy fix
Removing the relay cover before removing the fuse box cover makes it easier
Or take off the hood seal just above the cover.
