      darren aronofksy is a genius. like the trailer for “mother!” it makes the film seem as a scary horror but then when you watch the film it goes in a completely different direction from what you’d imagine. like i still think of “mother!” as a horror because i’m 13 and don’t like anything like that (i just watched it because jennifer lawrence was in it) but it’s much more like a psychological thriller and i find that very clever lol. i don’t think i’d ever watch black swan though because it would most probably freak me out

    I read that professional ballet dancers make somewhere around 30-35k a year. Why do they get paid so little? They train their whole lives, push their bodies to the brink of limitation, and have to be perfect and elegant while performing in front of n audience. You would think they would at least make 100k. I know people will say they are doing what they love but, damn, that's no money at all. You might as well work a office job and make like 50k or something. I would be pissed if I was a ballerina and people like Kim K makes millions while doing absolutely nothing!

      It's all about supply and demand and more demand means more money being made. If there isn't enough revenue being generated, then there isn't going to be enough to pay the ballerinas a lot of money. It is definitely unfortunate; I agree.

    I keep coming back to this movie again and again. Aside from it being a cinematic masterpiece I also feel so drawn to the psychological motifs even though it's not at all obvious to me why I feel that way. It's truly terrifying, yet so alluring and almost enchanting. I'm even obsessed with the poster image... I'm scared to look her in the eyes but once I do I can't seem to look away, feels like I'm looking at Medusa. 10/10 truly a brilliant work of art.

    Guys, it's not really THAT deep... I've tryied to figure out that movie for like, 3 years now, and now I got it... Nina had a personality disorder, wich is to say, she had 2 oposite personalities inside of herself, but she didn't knew it. She was always living like Nina, the white-swan girl, but she didn't realized that sometimes she did some dark things, for example, having sex with Toma for getting the role... I'm not 100% sure she had sex with Toma, but I really really think so. Cuz at the end of the film, when shes practcing and someone turns off the lights, she sees herself, dressed in black, having sex with Toma, so it problably hapenned, but she just won't accept it. She is scared of her dark side, the same dark side who stabed the ancient ballerina at the hospital. You guys remember her, right? the ''little princess'' one, who tryied to kill herself and ended up in hospital. Nina does stabs her with that nail thing, but she just thinks she didn't, cuz she dosen't want to acept that she is dark. And she brings her inconfidence about herself and her dark side to Lilly, so she starts to really stalk Lilly, like saying she wants her part, and she did, but she was not all crazy about it... And Nina even starts to make Lilly look like shes the one whos trying to ''get'' her, but it's really not, it's actualy her dark-side who's trying to get her. All of those years living with her mom, being dressed up by her mom, having her nails cut down by her mom, and just being treated like a 9 year old girl has got her crazy, and her dark side is hungry, hungry for freedom. Her sexy,woman, dark side is trying to come out, but she won't let it cuz she's scared and her mom keeps pushing her to not embrace that dark side. So, it kinda goes like this: Toma wants her to get her dark side out, but her mom dosen't. So she dosen't know what to do, and finally, when her dark side posesses her at the end of the film, she even kisses Toma. That's the moment when Nina (her ''white'' personality) realizes that she lost her prince to another ''girl''. Herself. Her dark side stole her man, and she wants to kill that side, and she does, by stabbing her image of darkness, sexyness and ''perfection''. Who's that? Who does Nina ''worships'' as being all the things she isn't? Lilly. So she ''kills'' Lilly thinking that she would win the battle, keep the prince, and be Nina again. But she dosen't, in fact, instead of killing Lilly, she kills herself, because, even tough her dark side has a completely different personality, it's still traped in her body. So, when she kills her dark side, she kills her self for complete. Then, at the ending, you can clearely see it's Nina up there, dressed like the white swan, not her evil personality, the one who killed Toma, but the old white-swan Nina, who cryies during the whole act of suicide, because it's not just a fictonary suicide, it's real, she really killed herself so she could stop herself from being dark and taking away everything from her. She couldn't let her dark side take over. So she kills herself, and even feels proud to do so, because the few moments her dark-side could dance free, wore the most perfect moments ever. That's all she needed: To let her dark side flow, and she did, but couldn't let it flow forever... Well, that's my opinion, guys. I'm no film reviewer or anything, in fact, I hope y'all can understand this, cuz I'm brazilian so my english is far from being perfect. Sorry for that, and sorry for being too long too.

      @MC-hj8wv 10 років тому +57

      Lol, I love how you say its not deep and then say that it took three years for you to figure it out. I believe that it really is a deep movie - not because its concepts are difficult to understand, but because they can be interpreted in so many different ways. For example, I thought that her mom itself was a hallucination, and a representation of the way she feels her true self has been surpressed. I won't go into too much detail for the sake of length, but her scratching would be her attempts to free it, and she finally found freedom in the end, through physically, mentally, and emotionally destroying her barriers in death. Another person in the comments said that they saw the death as a result of the perfection she found as well. No one can know for sure which ideas are right and which are wrong but those who were very involved with the making of the movie. And by saying there's only one right answer to it and calling it simple, I feel like you're demeaning what this film accomplished quite a bit.

    • @Bibico97
      @Bibico97 10 років тому +7

      konaramen As I can see by your comment, you didn't understood what I said at all. I recommend you reading it again. I had never sad that this movie is simple, and in fact, this is one of my favorite movies ever. The reason why it took me 3 years to understand it, was because at the time it came out I was only 14 years old, and now I'm almost 18 so I can watch this with more ''mature eyes''. It is not a simple movie, but as I said, it's not that deep that a intelligent person cannot get it. You're putting the movie on a pedestal and assuming that it's extremely deep and touching and almost impossible to understand, wich, in part, it is, but happily, this movie is not one of those ''non-sense'' movies where you come out of the cinema room thinking ''wtf was that?'' This is a very deep movie, but saying it can't be understood is just plain stupid. And I don't think her mom was imaginary at all. Maybe Lilly was imaginary (wich I doubt), but her mom? No way! And I agree with you on the part ''she finally found freedom in the end, through physically, mentally, and emotionally destroying her barriers in death.'' Please read my comment again, or not, but please, loose the hate cuz this was just my opinion and I was NOT demeaning the film at all. Thank you, have a nice life. xoxo'

    • @Bibico97
      @Bibico97 10 років тому

      ***** No, I didn't said that... Thoma dosen't die in the movie, the only person who dies is Nina, cuz she kills herself. I truly believe that she has sex with Thoma in order to get the part, but she dosen't remember having sex with him cuz her mind ''deletes'' everything that her ''evil side'' does, so she is constantly stuck being Nina and can never be the black swan... :)

      Bibicoide Ribeiro I know that this comment is a few months old, but your comment was so idiotic that I figured I'd respond anyway. That, and I keep getting alerts about this post.
      I said, and I quote, "it really is a deep movie - not because it is difficult to understand." If you can't read, please get off the internet and stop getting overly defensive over someone who disagreed with you pretty politely.
      I'll explain my point again since you seem pretty slow. The point is, (and read this time) that you didn't make the movie. Neither did I. So there isn't "one right answer" to the meaning of it as far as either of us know. If you can't cope with any point of view that isn't yours, and can't handle discussion about different interpretations of the movie, then you're up for a whole lot of failure down the road. THAT was the point, capital letters to help you get it this time. Simply to be receptive to other ideas outside your own.
      Hopefully you learn to be less arrogant and more open-minded in the future, (and finally pick up some basic reading comprehension skills!) because right now, you seem pretty disappointing in both regards.

      Yes and also lets not forget the magic of the film being that it manages to correlate with the theme of the ballet "swan lake" by in her death she finds freedom and the euphemism of the inward battle of self is finally over when she dies. I cant be certain but it may be a tip of the hat to the 1948 film about the prima ballerina in "the red shoes" where her personal life ends up blurring into the art and becoming a metaphor. Is it art imitating life? Or is it life imitating art? The movie was brilliant its the "red shoes" of our time. I would have liked to see the full performance of swan lake but it's understandable being that Natalie is not a profeasional dancer whereas mora shearer was

    This film, in my opinion, is one of the greatest movies of all time. Darren Aronofsky DEFINITELY hit a home run with this. In fact, this one is only the 3rd psychological thriller I've seen, first being SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and the second being SHUTTER ISLAND. I'm thrilled how this film can't be considered an art film due to its thick, detailed plot. Also, it's one of the scariest horror films I've seen since THE CONJURING, and that was absolutely terrifying. Who knew Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis could portray such amazing characters. Obviously no one else could play them.

    People say that being picked for the "Swan Queen" drove her to insanity. I disagree, because in the beginning before she even got the part of the Swan Queen, she was having visions of her double while on the train to work. Was she always delusional? I think she was always in some way delusional because her Mother always wanted to protect her. Hence, always wanted to check her skin and clip her nails because she was always scratching. Why did she scratch all the time? Why did her Mom always cry and what did the paintings in her Mother's room represent? Why was the mom so pissed that she didn't want a piece of cake? This is one of those movies that no one would argue with you and say it wasn't good, because it is just PERFECT from the start to the end

      A 6-year-old had no business watching this. That teacher shouldn’t have had a job to go back to.

    Really Amazing Movie ! .. So many people hate this movie, but i guess u have to be "old enough" and know what u are watching. Darren Aronofsky did a really good job making this and Natalie Portman won an oscar for best actress in 2011.. Its scary, its dark, its different, its a masterpiece. Well i loved it

    The film was not at all about sex and drugs. It was about what a professional ballet company can do to a dancer. And what being so determine to be perfect can do to a person. It was an amazing movie.
