It is suprising yet gratifying to see the appeal of the steelpan in such an orderly culture. The players seem to be really enjoying the sound of steel and play with a distinctive clarity that extends the range from traditional steel pan rhythms.Steelpan Trinidad's gift to the world!
BULLSHIT . . You know nothing about the genesis of Pan, Stop repeating things you think you know. and, do the research. Ellie Manette did not invent pan. There were pioneers, inventors, and contributors to the evolution of pan long before Ellie Manette could even spell the word PAN. Spree Simon, Anthony Williams, Bertie Marshall, Rudolph Charles, Johnathan Francis. These are just but a few who have contributed to the evolution of PAN in a significant way, of which Ellie Manette, is just one. I will not have you disrespect the memory and contribution of these great Men and women by perpetuating the Myth , that , Ellie Manette invented pan. Ellie Mannette, is a very questionable character in the pan world when it comes to the invention of certain things. So, if yuh doh know, now yuh know.
These guys could go to Trinidad - inventor of the Steelpan - and seriously kick some butts there. They're terrific and this comment is from a Trinidadian.
Additionally Ellie Mannette has never laid claim to any credit for inventing 'pan'...you can contact him and find out for yourself, he's on the faculty of West Virginia University. Better to educate yourself than spread misinformation.
Piano keys are made from ivory... do you call a piano an elephant? Do we call a guitar a tree? The steelpan is more akin to a xylophone or marimba than it is to a true 'drum'.
It's not a drum...please don't refer to it as such, it detracts from the genius employed to create it and diminishes the skill necessary to elicit the range of notes produce.

It sounds terrific, and it must be so much fun for them playing it. I love the more upbeat pan music :D
I like the way the Japanese take music developed in other areas and add a good amount of perfection.

They're terrific and this comment is from a Trinidadian.

It is made from a "DRUM" - a steel drum that was originally used to transport oil.

Wrong! Ellie & Spree and their padnas came up with the steeldrum. Prior to the oil drums, they used biscuit tins.
Piano keys are made from ivory... do you call a piano an elephant? Do we call a guitar a tree? The steelpan is more akin to a xylophone or marimba than it is to a true 'drum'.
