Truly fantastic...this great, splendid woman with a golden voice, has brought so much beauty to the world! Thank God for a human being in the person of Dame Julie Andrews!

Julie Andrews is the epitome of beauty, grace and charm. I was devastated when I heard that her gift had been taken from her (and from us all). Her rendition of "I Have Dreamed" is enough to bring tears forth from a brick wall. I (and certainly many others) am grateful that she graced the screen with her beauty and the many recordings with her incomparable voice.

I wanted to hear a woman sing this song . Because I am dedicating it to my darling man. I could not have found anyone better than Julie to do the singing .

I first became aware of Julie Andrews in about 1961 or '62, probably because of The Sound of Music. What an amazing performer she was for so many years! It's terrible that botched surgery on her vocal cords destroyed one of the great voices of stage, film and audio recording.
A great singer with a magnificent voice, and a totally classy lady.
Thank you for posting this wonderful rendition of a great song.

I would have had to pull off the road full stop just to listen. The violin counter melody is just a small peak into how Julie really hears the songs she sings. Beautiful and just incomparable!

This is one of my favorite songs and Julie just knocked it out of the park. She has the range and power to pull it off. I am so sorry that Julie has lost her singing voice but thank God she's left us with a huge body of recorded work to listen to forever. Thank you for posting.

my voice teacher had me do this number and I crushed it! My teacher knew what songs matched my voice. I'd add " On the streets were you live" was also tailor made. I'm not bosting it's just that certain songs I could nail-others not so much.

@johnnybrighton9156. My family and I saw a revival of "The King and I" at the Uris Theater in NYC starring Yul Brynner as the King and (as I recall) Constance Towers as Anna and in that revival production of the musical, " I Have Dreamed" was performed as a duet.

How I wish The King and I had been brought back to the big screen with Julie and Ben cast in the leads in the late 80’s or early ‘90’s when Julie’s voice was a its richest. She would have made a beautiful Anna! No dubbing required.

I have dreamed that arms are lovely
I have dreamed what a joy, you'll be
I have dreamed every word, you whisper
When you're close, close to me
How you look in the glow of evening
I have dreamed and enjoyed the view
In these dreams, I've loved you so
That by now I think, I know
What it's like to be loved by you
I will love being loved by you
Alone and awake, I've looked at the stars
The same that smile on you
And time and again, I've thought all the things
    That you were thinking too
I have dreamed that arms are lovely
I have dreamed what a joy, you'll be
I have dreamed every word, you whisper
When you're close, close to me
How you look in the glow of evening

Julie Andrews is one of my favorite female singers and she sings the classic "I Have Dreamed" from "The King and I" beautifully, but her voice, as magnificent as it was prior to her losing her singing voice, is really not the right type for this song. Her voice is a little too light and airy for this song. And the orchestral arrangement on this version of that song could have and should have been much better.

    • @johnnybrighton9156
      @johnnybrighton9156 10 місяців тому

In the stage show, it's supposed to be sung by a man. I think the arrangement is by Ian Fraser for the album Broadway: the music of Richard Rodgers. But it sounds a little like a hommage to Nelson Riddle, reminiscent of the Spring is Here setting he did for Sinatra's Only the Lonely album.

    • @michaelbarlow6610

@@johnnybrighton9156 .Actually, as I recall, in the original Broadway musical of Rogers and Hammerstein's "The King and I", "I Have Dreamed" is sung as a duet by a male and a female singer. My family had the 8-Track Tape of the Original Broadway Cast Album of that musical and as I remember, that great song was sung as a duet.

    • @johnnybrighton9156

You're right originally, but I saw Yul Brynner in a production in London years ago where the whole song was done by a man alone. I suspect the part of Lun Tha is so thin that if a big singer is available he can get a solo. There's another song - We kiss in a shadow - where Tuptim and Lun Tha can duet.
